      That# an interesting suggestion - and a good suggestion. In Scotland we didn’t use a cooler - but maybe further south it would be a good addition. 🌼🙋🏼‍♂️

    QUESTIONS: How long does it take for the Poppies to break out??? AND: Won't the other flowers wilt or die BEFORE the POPPIES OPEN??? It would be interesting to know WHEN to cut the Poppies one is going to use!!! Thank you!

    • @FlowerJoos
      @FlowerJoos  Před 4 lety

      George Garcia these actually opened quite quickly - so they were good in relation to the other flowers. I think it would depend on the ambient temperature - if warm they will open quickly but if you want them to be slow then place them somewhere cooler. The poppies look good in all dates though - as buds as well as flowers 😀🙋🏼‍♂️

    Hello, I love this arrangement, It is stunning. Could you please help me, my daughter would like a wedding bouquet of Astilbe how many stems do you feel should be used?

    • @FlowerJoos
      @FlowerJoos  Před 7 lety +2

      Grace Lisnal Hi Grace - thanks for your comment. It would depend on the style of the bouquet that she would want. If just astilbe then you would need a good 30 stems I think just in case they are not heavy, but a good suggestion would be to use a base of foliage to work the astilbe through, so then about - 15 stems would be fine. This is making a hand tied style. The time of year and the general size of the material can vary from year to year, so I would always err on the safe side and have more than you actually use so you can pick the best of stems.

    If cannot get poppy, what substitute would be good? Thanks

    • @FlowerJoos
      @FlowerJoos  Před 4 lety

      Water Dragon it depends on what the design is for. You could use faux versions, or pastel germini, or anthirrinums. It would depend what you can source - so the effect visually might vary a little bit.
      😀🌼

    • @waterdragon5680
      @waterdragon5680 Před 4 lety +1

      Your design, the one you have posted. Anthirrum n Gemini, heads too big. Not as delicate n flexible as your poppy. Ummm, will go to the flower market n look

    • @FlowerJoos
      @FlowerJoos  Před 4 lety

      Water Dragon anthirrinhum not anthurium - but yes, just see what there is available 😀

    How long do arrangements in foam tend to last?

    • @FlowerJoos
      @FlowerJoos  Před 6 lety +1

      Polly Conner it depends on a few factors - the varieties of flowers used, the season, and the ambient temperature - so in summer it’s warmer so flowers will last less time.
      If an arrangement is watered every day then this is the best way to help the flowers last. I would want flowers in foam to last a week if possible.
      Using a knife instead of scissors gives a better cut, and a cut on an angle allows more water up the stem. It al, adds up - the more you do the better they will do!

  • @malaks.821

    I tried Hydrangea in an arrangement and it wilted in only day. any advice?

    • @FlowerJoos
      @FlowerJoos  Před 6 lety

      malak S. yes, hydrangea can be a problem, especially in floral foam. Best advice is to really condition them well in advance of use, so the6 are fully hydrated. Ideally use in water rather than foam - so that depends on what you have to make! If for a wedding I would try and use them on the day rather than in advance, keep somewhere cool, mist with water - and some are better than others for lasting. So I find the green and coloured later season types are much better than the softer summer pastel ones - but that doesn’t help if you are doing a wedding!

    Most of us only have access to purchase flowers from a supermarket. Where can we get such flowers that you use in your videos and also foliage?

    • @Draggonny
      @Draggonny Před 2 lety

      Astilbes and hydrangias are usually sold in supermarkets as potted plants rather than a cut flower so may be more expensive but achievable. Poppies are not really sold in supermarket bouquets due to their short life as a cut flower so check out the other comments for potential substitutions. If you don't have a garden you could keep a few houseplants such as a bowl of hyacinths in spring to give you access to garden varieties in season.
