I am a Kenyan living and working in Kenya. I love my continent the flavor and the sense of belonging. I never wake up thinking about my color. Rather I think “what do I need to do?” or “what would I want to do?”. It's easier to say that when you're a millionaire living in the US, the land of opportunities. I'm 100% sure Steve Harvey wouldn't make it that far in life should he been born in some place in Africa, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. Most of African wants to come to western countries hoping to be someone one day, especially when nearly half of the population lives under $1 a day. And, you Harvey, you have a strong advantage over a local, i.e. an African when you go to their country, in this case Ghana since you mentioned it. With your status of "African-American" I'm sure you noticed the difference in treatment as you are somehow worshipped and can get to "places" a local could never get. The USA is one of the few countries on earth, where a black can become a millionaire or billionaire by working really hard.
Let's face it, in African societies across the board, to make it, you need to either have a strong family and friendship ties with the government, including the president or be involved in some kind of illicit activities or businesses. Of course, we do have some people who become successful by tapping into their talent and some connection, but it's minimal. The continent is plagued with corruption, nepotism and other flaws.
People tend to seek something they idealize, something they never experienced, but the reality is a different story when you set foot.

Thank you!!!!!!! Someone literally insulted me for saying this under an excerpt of this video on Instagram!!! Being a multimillionaire anywhere on earth is a privilege. You come to Ghana, the exchange rate is so bad that you change a few dollars and you can buy a huge house fully furnished with flat screens and air conditioning in any plush city and live your best life. It’s that easy! Eating good food and driving nice cars. So Ofcourse you would automatically think it’s the best thing to live here but ask the ordinary citizen what he thinks. He also faces police brutality, terrible health care options, poor education, poor standards of living, poor roads, transportation, etc. it’s not all sunshine and colourful clothes and afros because “we all look alike”. I’ve lived in Europe before and I looked nothing like anyone in college and in my community but it was one of my best experiences ever.
Like we say here in our local language “nowhere cool”.
Let people go wherever they want to go.

    • @asantewaakissi2650
      @asantewaakissi2650 Před 2 lety +5

Employment issues? No connections? Prepare to jump over hurdles!!
And a black American in Ghana? Someone with dollars?? Dollar power😂??? More so a celebrity from America?? Eii we will worship you.
See how Michael Blackson enjoys himself when he comes here. He throws the biggest parties and attends the richest gatherings. They spread cash, dollars on the floor. That’s a small percentage of the people! That’s not the reality of more than half of the population! So in his mind Ghana is the best place to be. Ask the teacher crossing the bridge to the other side of town if he feels the same.
I’m just saying it’s not easy anywhere. Yes home is home no doubt but the conversation should be balanced and truthful.

Such a shame that things are this bad, often I catch myself fighting a complete emotional break-down.
We as a people (globally) spend so much energy focused on the wrong thing.
This planet is apart of our DNA - from the design of the sun; down to the carbon element, which is the building blocks of all organic life.
This planet is in a state of concern:
destroyed forests and countless ecosystems, air pollution, "fresh water" pollution, a global plastic waste crisis, healthy soil depletion,
Ocean pollution, the destruction of massive amounts of Oceanic-life, Coral reef destruction (it was turned it into a gift shop), Countless animal habitats destroyed - resulting in Numerous animal extinctions, endless human manipulation of animals via forced inbreeding - causing generational gene deformities, catastrophic weather changes - due to weather/ecosystem manipulation, man-made diseases, depletion of natural resources, nuclear power (accidents) and weapons (a constant threat of further destruction to our planet)...
We as a people (globally) are so focused on having a big house (the "American-dream" of excess wealth), that we completely *ignore* how many trees had to die to create that ONE house; or how much metal had to be pulled out of the earth to create the nails, tools, and pipes for that ONE house..
This planet and the state of our people (globally) are identical. Both this planet and us are reaching a point of no return... ALL of this damage done, was in the name of the "American-dream".. That very same "dream" that drives people all over the world to systematically destroy our ONLY home...

Imagine what he just said...I am an African from the East African region and I have been living in North America for years now and I have always wondered whether my lack of feeling at home here was because I wasn't born here and hence the feeling of not belonging. But Steve has just helped me understand and deal with it...If African Americans can feel this way after hundreds of years what does that say about you white people? This is how they feel. And it's because of you.
African Americans should have felt at home a long time ago, but apparently they feel exactly like us the 'newly landed immigrants' can you just put that into perspective?
Do you still think that you are good people?
He said it so well. When I am in Africa, automatically I feel, yes I belong here.....it's incredible how it's like wired in us to love Africa through our DNA
In Africa we never used to have the idea of selfishness. Like scrambling for more and more material to one's name, leading to wanting to own everything around including land. The the idea of owning Land for example, this purely European and very very Alien and new to us. In my 30s, and I remember when I was little, you didn't need permission to move to a new area and set up camp and live permanently. In fact, the natives were always excited to have new neighbors. No one even spoke about who owns what part of land. But the western toxicity takes you over slowly like some kind of sinister disease before you know it you are engulfed in your own head thought of selfishness and greed which you can't even remember where it all came from. So, watch your thoughts peoples. Don't let negative behaviors take hold in your hearts because of environmental wickedness you find yourself in. You can stand out and be the difference you want to see out in the world

You guys will help us in Africa appreciate what we have because many young Africans only focus on the issue of money. I understand. But they don't understand the full picture. The consequences and trade offs. Like living your whole life in some sort of unhappiness, dissatisfied, angry and feeling oppressed which in turn affects one's overall creativity and productivity. Look at the stories coming out of Africa even now. Some guy in Zimbabwe just created a never ending way to power a TV without electricity or solar energy. Self powered TV, in a sense. Stories like this are everywhere in Africa. But they lack support, exposure, protection and funding. That's African Americans are vital to the resurgence of Africa. I approve of this message as a Kenyan in America. The feeling of belonging that I get when I go home makes me shed tears. Being where nobody asks me to repeat my name or to repeat what I said because of my accent. I just blend in with my people so well.
Now long read below why some of us are here:
We come for opportunities that we don't get at home. At home we have to create our own opportunities through small businesses but capital is a problem. Most of us are here to make money to use as capital to start businesses. Once our businesses get off the ground we go back. It can take 5 or 25 years. If we die we still send our people to be buried at home. In my country Kenya every year we send billions of dollars equivalent to almost 4 percent of our GDP. I feel since Africa has been exploited a lot we might as well get something from the West
Personally I have been here for 16 years since I was 20 years old. I have been able to build 3 apartment flats with 30 mixed units each in Kenya. I am wrapping up my time here now as the mission is almost accomplished.
I understand though what Steve is saying. I never realized I was black till I got here, at my job racism and favoritism is widespread but we have been able to deal with that nonsense by banding together as Africans and African Americans and calling out the offenders.

Some of my best friends in undergrad and grad school are African. One in particular said that she was just in the US to build her knowledge and take that back to her homeland. She had no intention of staying in the US although she didn't have any problems here. I thought that was so wonderful. AFRICA is very complex due to the 10,000 tribes. The AFRICANS who come to AMERICA to study and leave immediately they graduate tend to belong to the bigger tribes that run their respective Countries and so have a better chance of getting a good job since their big tribes run the Country through corruption, nepotism and tribalism.
AFRICANS from the tribes that are on the receiving end of TRIBALISM, CORRUPTION and NEPOTISM tend to stay in AMERICA after graduation because they will get better jobs in AMERICA than back in AFRICA.

They know we aren't they people but will play that role (it's all bout money). Degrees don't mean ish. It's plenty of people with degrees and 200,000 dollars on debt and still struggling to find a job that matches their student debt. I totally agree with Steve and am so happy he's being candid with our African Brothers and Sisters about what's really happening. I attended Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, the Alma Mater of Kwame Nkrumah, Nnamdi Azikewe, and others, at a time when it was manditory for African students to study in America and bring what they learned back home. It was at the beginning of the Black Power movement, when Africans and African Americans were beginning to reunite - and we were beginning to study about our roots and connects with our brothers and sisters from the Motherland - there was a major gap in the process when internecine wars were beginning to happen in Africa, riots and other negative things began to happen to further divide and conquer us. I think it is not only feasible, but imperative that we both begin to share our knowledge and information - Africa is under siege from a new level of colonization - China - and if it continues to spread, our Motherland will never, ever have control of her wealth, government, or production. Thanks for the Heads Up Steve - the next strategy is to collaborate on how we can make some of the principles of "Wakanda" a reality for Africans At Home and Abroad. Stay Blessed & ECLECTICALLY BLACK - Gloria DULAN-Wilson

Why do black Americans spread the White Liberals' false narrative. The biggest threat to black life in America is black-on-black gun violence not the police. Statistics show this as a fact, but no one wants to talk about it to prevent our "saviors" the white liberals from getting angry. It's 21st century and lets normalize telling the truth and not exhibiting symptoms of mental slavery

You can’t understand if you’ve never lived there and had an opportunity to move to America. Imagine living with no reliable water or electricity then going somewhere without such problems. A life of poverty or opportunities abroad. Pick one. Haha!

Without realizing, you’re moving away from one danger, to the next that on an entirely different level in America. The history here and current events speak for itself.

As one, I will say no. At least not to me. It's easy for someone in his position to say that, but we don't make the same money as him. We don't have the same lifestyles as him . A lot of Black Amreican are living from paycheck to paycheck. We'd never be able to make the same amount he does. So for him to paint Africa like its the haven for Black Americans is very insulting. He doesn't know our lifestyles or how we live and we don't have the same privliges he does.
