    Iusuly I use the old oil seal upside down over the new one and over that I use the 2 part seal driver. That way you are pushing only rubber to rubber and lip to lip to make contact.

      electrical tape works as well, just wrap a thick layer higher up on the fork tube after the seal is starting to seat by hand and slam the tube down to push the seal down.

    you know works really good that I do is get a spare washer like the one above the bushing and put that between the seal and the driver that protect the seal

    If the inside of a PVC or other driver tube threatens the lip of a seal, I chamfer the inside with a deburring tool. Most bike mechanics don't know about machinists handheld deburring tools but they are cheap and make life much easier. (They are also great for deburring cases and covers when rebuilding engines.) Shaviv and clones are under twenty dollars. I don't hesitate to modify any tool I own or make one if needed.

    I would use an extra washer since it’s the perfect size and drive it in with the weight or maybe the old seal on top of the new that way won’t hurt the new seal what do you think 🤔 Shane

    Instead of buying an expensive tool, why not find a second washer like the one on the bushing to protect the seal.....then simply remove the washer once the seal is seated?

    • @How2Wrench
      @How2Wrench  Před 6 lety +1

      Nice idea Moose81...but that washer is not a stocking item at most dealers and we are training for "what would you do if you could" not to lessen your idea as its freaking great! But most shops will have these tools. To expand your thought, if someone did enough of these forks with this issue, stocking the washer as a special tool would be wise...wanna bet I will order a spare now....:)

      Fork seal grease. A smear to the outer edge of the seal will assist in seating it smoothly. Don't assemble dry, use fork oil. The bushes, damper rods, bush washer and seal will all "see" oil anyway so why not use it the lubricate during the build?
