    Brilliant video. Don't worry about the regularity of your updates, it's great to see somebody living with a car and offering real world feedback. Thank you.

    Glad you are saving it, i have one on a 55 plate with 76k miles on it. They are good cars and yours will last well past 200k if you look after it

    The XJ6 Series 3 especially the Daimler version has always been and still is in my eyes a beautiful car. I simply love the lines and the rear lights design and arrangement. You have indeed got a bargain there Matt.

      @fuelupclassic  Před 9 měsíci

      Thank you Vince, I have to agree that I think the Series 3 is still a stunning car to look at and own, even if it does test my patience at times with its little 'quirks'. I will do some videos on it once the weather improves. Thank you for watching. Matt

      The XJ6 series 3 redesigned by Pininferrina was their biggest seller. The XJ40 which followed lost a lot of its curves but as design goes, it was a very well balanced designed car with the square head lights matching the square tail lights. Not many cars are as balanced as that. But who really cares about good design anymore. It's all about BHP and speed and getting a Jag as cheap as you can.

    Autoreserve are brilliant and close to me, I bought XJ8 18 months ago, have spent the same as I paid for it to replace rear bumper (tow bar cut out ) air compressor, full service, gearbox service, new horn, disks brake pads, alloy wheels fitted with Pirelli's , Car has 130k but drives brilliantly now and gets many an admiring glance. Love it. Cost to date 7 grand !

      There's nothing quite like a Jaguar, even a cheap and tired example can still be a lot of fun. Thank you for watching the video and I hope you get a Jaguar of your own to enjoy in the future .

    had an xj6... the more and harder you drove it the better it ran and more it liked it... hoses were rubber and tended to disintegrate. but it was a magnificent car once you get it sorted. the only killer is when the struts go out at about 170K miles...because there are TWO mcphearson strus per wheel in the back...for a total of 6...plus rack and pinion replacement = value of car x 1.5

    There are 3 earth points behind the front headlights (remove the plastic panel above in the engine bay) - these corrode really badly, in most cases snapping off completely which will more than likely be your electrical fault; can also be a common cause of air suspension failure messages so they could be related! Just replaced all 3 of mine on my X350 and also had to do this on my previous example

    • @fuelupclassic
      @fuelupclassic  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Thank you, that's really useful to know. Once the weather improves I will have a good look at the earth points, as I suspect they are corroded.

    I love Jags, I've got a very late May 1972 S1 2.8 SWB tucked away in a barn, A solid XJ with 57K miles on it and only 3 previous owners, Also own a lovely genuine UK 1964 MK2 3.8 manual, Spent 30+ years in California so the bodyshell is un molested and rot free! Liked and subbed.

    Check your battery they can throw up faults on the instrument panel if the battery is old replace it and your probably right about poor earthing on the lights good luck with it cool that you got the jag you once owned back Andy Allen.

    Sad...it's "cheap" to drive. I drive a 2007 and it's generally covered to retain the paint, and all functions besides the right wiper is off along with need to refurbish the headliner somewhat. It has been a lovely car, 29 mpg at 75 mph all day long here in the U.S. I love it and always will.

    • @fuelupclassic
      @fuelupclassic  Před 2 měsíci

      Like most old jags, they become very cheap here in the UK rather quickly, which usually leads to so many being scrapped once they reach a certain age, hence the desire to save this one. It's still giving admirable daily service and is a lovely way to travel.

    Betcha it is not the heater but the interior sensor. Also, those HID headlight the resistor goes after a certain period.
    The air suspension is fickle, and could suffer from the lower temperature, or night-icing, or moisture.
    First thing to check is the leveling sensor.
    And yes if you buy it for a price THAT low, first repairs are going to cost more than the car LMAO.

    • @fuelupclassic
      @fuelupclassic  Před 9 měsíci

      It could well be the interior sensor! I will have to spend some time diagnosing the faults and film another update. Thank you for watching. Matt

      @@fuelupclassicif the blower fans arnt working its most likely the fan resistor,its a quite common failure on them.had one go on mine years ago.love these cars,my daily driver is the superv8 one.its great.

    Thank you for the video, re your electrical problems your right to check the earths, but how old is your battery, and as you said since the cold snap things are happening, these Jag's are a bit power hungry on the battery and if a bit below par send up various fault code messages. Will be following your journey on both Jaguar's with interest a big fan of these older cars

    • @fuelupclassic
      @fuelupclassic  Před 9 měsíci

      Excellent point about the battery! I will have to see how old it is as it could well be time for a replacement. The cold weather definitely hasn't helped things but i'm sure we will get it sorted and then start on the cosmetics. Thank you for watching. Matt

    "Bangernomics" at its finest.
    A ulez compliant mile munching XJ, if it cost £3k to buy, improve and fuel for a year, deduct the maybe theoretical ulez charges of £300 if you go in and out of a zone a decent amount of times in a year.
    If it gives you confidence in her keep her for another (cheaper) year, if not sell her on and even if she fetches another £500, you have run a jaguar and had cheap motoring on par with a neighbour paying £210 per month on a car loan for a " shagged smooth" 3 door petrol fiesta.

    Similar Problems to my car. Suspension fault below 0˚C and no hot air on the Canadian driver's side (left), which appears to be caused by a clogged heater core. If you do a dash disassembly to repair the heating issue, please video and post ALL of it. I would like to do the heater core replacement myself, but there are no videos on the disassembly/reassembly process. Thank you!

    I really think U got lucky with that car - but - it has a lot of miles.I hope it doesn't gouge UR wallet over the next year ! I have been looking at hundreds to thousands of XJ's and XJR's for the past year with a 3000 dollar covid check. The lowest 04' XJ's are going for is 3500 dollars with the transmission slipping or a seized engine !

    • @fuelupclassic
      @fuelupclassic  Před 7 měsíci

      I did indeed get quite lucky with this one but I've put a lot of work into it since this video to get it up to a much better standard. There's nothing quite like an old Jag and they still represent remarkable value for money in my opinion. Good luck with your search!
