The Greaser subculture style has been around since the late 50s and although, not as popular now as it was back then, it wasn't a culture that was sparked because of the Outsiders novel. Judging by this guys age it's very probable he was inspired by The Outsiders, but most Greasers I know including myself weren't introduced to the style by the book but instead by random chance when all of us began wearing leather jackets, jeans, and boots and soon found out it was an actual style.
P.S there are also dozens of greaser hairstyles like the pompadour or the rockabilly. This guy kind of has a lame one so don't think we all have hair like that
