Thank you for the very clear and well-explained demonstration. I have a German Shepherd who has been paralyzed from the waist back due to Degenerative Myelopathy as a result of inbreeding. I have had to express his bladder for over a year, and the way I was taught was nowhere near as clear as your video. Even after a year, I learned new things that I believe will make the procedure easier.
dear K. Lein Pondmire, my big mutt has a cyst tumor or calcification in prostate. I have had to take him in numerous times for catherization....I am trying to learn how to catherize or the vet says put him down. I desperately want to save my dogs life. He is 97 lbs kinda stout, very muscular probably a mix with pit, lab, ridgeback. Any comments or correspondence how to empty his bladder would be appreciated. Sincerely, Christine Harrer
You are a wonderful parent! Thank you for not giving up when they needed you most. My little maltipoo named Bunny just passed away at 11.5 years from a heart attack out of nowhere and I still have her brother Benny 12 years old from the same mom. It kills me that she is gone. I miss her so much! I spent thousands on getting both her ACLs replaced last year because she was my baby and 10k is worth it. I'm so sad to not have her anymore. Thank you for not putting them down. Seriously, thank you.
I have watched so many videos, read so many tips, had vet staff and others show me and I still could not express my poor pup, but the one handed technique worked! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this video! After several tests, X-rays, and an ultra sound to rule out other issues, it’s been determined that my pug’s UTIs are caused by her inability to fully empty her bladder. This makes it easier for me to ensure I’m doing it the right way and not hurting her. My vet did a demo with me, but this is great to have as a reference.
Hello Courtney My apologies if i spelled your name not correctly because English is not my first language. Recently, my 18 year old shitzu buddy got paralyzed under his waste part and preparing his long detour. Before i watch your video, He was screaming when he needed to urinate, but i could do nothing. I was desperately finding ways to help him not just putting diapers on him, then I found your video and actually made it! When he starts yelling, i give him bladder expression then he gets settled. Thank you again for your tips and hope AMC channel is more known to people. God bless you.
Thank you for this video. Is the only one that seemed to help me with learning to express the bladder of my female dog. Her abdominal wall seems tense a lot, and so it can be hard for me to find it. So that first method really helped a lot.
Yooo thank y'all so much! My poor shepsky hasn't been able to pee for about 7 hours now and I tried this method.. didn't work at first but he finally got up and released some urine, it's relieved him a bit until we get a vet visit. He had been crouching over and over all morning with no release at all . I recommend doing this gently but firmly as the veterinarian states. I had no idea what I was doing but it works
Thank you, you saved me and my little cat. I couldn't express his bladder and had to take him to vet every day. One thing that really helped me doing it, was one sentence "don't be afraid it's not painful it's just uncomfortable" That really helped me put enough pressure for doing it right.
My dog is very poorly at the minute and too weak to pee on her own so this is a huge help in my nursing her back to health, she has suspected pancreatitis and is in the early stage of treatment, I'm waiting for the antibiotics to start working but as she hasnt eaten for a few days but is drinking with help I need to make sure a urine infection doesnt muddy the healing process tsui thank you for this tutorial x
Yo. I have to say… tried it on my male cat, felt the full bladder, realized it was not like what you explained a healthy bladder should feel like, and rushed him to the ER. Long story short: Thank you for saving my kitty’s life!
Update (3 Weeks): He had to get a catheter for a couple days, and some prescription food to help to pass the blockage. After a couple weeks of meds and care, he’s back to his annoying, spoiled, needy self! P.S. He was on a high protein diet, and started sleeping more during the winter. The vet feels that that this combination was likely the cause of the blockage.
@@hanishshkr Have you ever felt one of those bags of sand that are used to keep balloons from floating away? It was kinda like that. A puffy little pouch type of thing. My local vet says that if something in there doesn’t feel soft like everything else, it’s best to get it checked out.
Thanks so much my cat was recently diagnosed with diabetes and right not cant stand and is limp. We are giving him insulin twice a day but I need him to pee and needed a way to do it instead of him waiting till it is too painful to hold it. You helped my buddy avoid pain while he is recovering. Thank you so much!
Thankyou so much mam, we had very hazardous rain in our area and water was filled up everywhere my dog was neither peeing in the water nor in our house I was very disturbed seeing him in this condition then I used this and he peed easily and now he is sleeping quietly ❤ thankyou
Wow the first position is very effective to my cat that has bladder issues at the moment.❤️ Our vet taught us of the second technique but it's not effective and my cat gets upset but the first technique you mentioned (standing position) made the expression very easy.❤️ Thank you for sharing this video...❤️❤️❤️
Thank you! My dog just got paralyzed today, and my mom and I are so worried on what to do because all veterinaries, and animal centers near us are closed
Thank you. My cat is on medication cuz he was peeing a little at a time. After the med, he kinda lost appetite and engraftment, so he didn’t eat or drink a lot. He only peed in long period and it had almost been a day. I tried this and I don’t think I did it right cuz he didn’t pee on the spot, but after 10 minutes, I heard him going to the litter box. He peed!!! Yeahhh
Question!! I have a 32 lb. French bulldog. Both hind legs are paralyzed. I have a hard time holding him up AND trying to express his bladder because he is heavy. Will putting him on his side work?
I’m frustrated. I’ve tried over ten times. And having no luck. It’s been about 15 hours since my 17 year old pug has urinated. It is -9 with snow on the ground and she just won’t go. Even if I take a pad out there. This weather is expected for the next 5 days. I’m concerned because she is prone to UTIs when this happens. After what point do you have to take the dog to the vet if they haven’t void?
Yes, I do this to my male pug. I use the standing two handed method. I like to stand behind him outside and that way he relaxes more. Also I don't get peed on.
I've also heard every 6 hours from a lady who needs to do this with her small dog, which equates to the same thing. You can also feel the difference in the hardness of her bladder by feeling like she has in the video and keep pressure very light, unless you want your dog to pee while you check.
I have had a video up for two years that demonstrates how to express the bowels in a paralized dog, my 3 year old Saint Bernard had a Fibrocartilagenous Embolism in the spine, an MRI showed a tiny, I mean TINY little blockage and that was all it took to cause his back legs, tail, bladder and bowels to stop functioning. I wasn't able to express his bladder despite the vet showing me how, it just didn't work, so he continuously leaked urine, but the technique I used to prompt a bowel movement did work extremely effectively, it is good for large and giant breed dogs that cant be lifted up etc as you have in your video czcams.com/video/irgpTAUUDMc/video.html
Hi Courtney, we have a new family member joined last week, we found out he doesnt really pee when we were walking with him and hold pee too long, he is going to be 3 months next week, do you think it's a good we do the bladder expression for him for the potty training. Btw he is a miniature schnauzer. Plz help
Yes it does, you probably didnt find the right spots. I'd also try 2 hands. Still trying to get more out havent masters it but have been successful getting some out.
Whoever can do this deserves some kind of reward.

This is a brilliant explanation. Easy to understand and very comprehensive. Thank you.
The pug is so cute lol

Can i apply this technique to my male Cat?
My dog has uti but she can pee on her own frequently and she is on antibiotics, do I still need to do this
How exactly do you know what the bladder feels like?
How long should this preasure last before the urine comes ?
does this work if your dog has bladdar stones?
Does it work for dogs with kidney problem? Pls answer :
My dogs back leg is broken will this work
Question!! I have a 32 lb. French bulldog. Both hind legs are paralyzed. I have a hard time holding him up AND trying to express his bladder because he is heavy. Will putting him on his side work?
does this work on cats or just on dogs
Is there a video to help with emptying the bowel?
would expressing the urine in this way harm the urinary tract if they have possible bladder stones?
If done properly it's not harming them. Not doing so will since their bodies can not do it properly anymore, leaving them vulnerable to UTI or stones.
I’m frustrated. I’ve tried over ten times. And having no luck. It’s been about 15 hours since my 17 year old pug has urinated. It is -9 with snow on the ground and she just won’t go. Is male release same ?
What if they are on subQ fluids?
I cannot figure this out! What do I do?!
🙏 is that normally how their urine color is? I noticed my dogs pee looked like that and I was worried. Tow it looks green 😬
It’s because of the puppy pad blue + yellow = green don’t worry the pee isn’t really yellow
Dos it come alt of the wewe
My dogs hasn’t peed since his leg broke! It’s Been 24 hours already
Wheres the bladder??? I can't find it

Does this work for male dogs too?
Yes, I do this to my male pug. I use the standing two handed method. I like to stand behind him outside and that way he relaxes more. Also I don't get peed on.
How big is the bladder? I'm afraid I might squeeze the wrong thing...
Also my dog is a female will I accidentally squeeze her ovaries?
Is this a Boy Dog or Girl Dog????
