This brings back memories...I had a paralyzed Pekingese. Since she was a small dog I used to just hold her over the toilet and express her bladder right into the bowl. She usually passed stool on her own right after. Thank you for sharing. Education is so important. Many people seem to think they don't have any options for caring for a handicapped pet.

My doxie is paralyzed also, and the vet gave me a straight cath so I catheterize him about 3 times a day. But thanks for this helpful video, I might try and express his bladder.

My pug has trouble controlling when he poops, so I have to help him this way! Otherwise, he just poops without even realizing it, wherever he is! 🤦 It has definitely made for some interesting car rides! 😖
I have a question. Maybe about 9 of them. :)
I have a 10 year, 205 lb mastiff that has some disc (upper back) and bone spur issues (sacroiliac, in the gone tunnel), the latter being the worst and causing neuro issues for him. It has been about 17 hours right now (at a minimum) since he last urinated. He is too big to straddle, doesn't want to stand, and too heavy to lift. How would a person express a dog like this?

I also recommend chiropractic and acupuncture for back stuff, especially electroacupuncture. Some of them do house calls
@@bethanyoffutt1889 - We have a vet that comes out and do that.We started at once a week, then went to every other week, then to every 3rd week. She uses something that looks like a tens unit, to the needles? But every 3 weeks is too far apart, now he is sometimes walking on the tops of his hind feet.
I have unsuccessfully trying to find no knuckle boots for his back feet. So I may end up getting him a wheelchair, instead.
