  • Ignition Key Transponders
    Describes the workings and applications of modern automotive key transponders. These tiny chips transmit a digital signal that's then processed by the Anti-Theft (antitheft) module. An OK signal or command is then given to the ECM and related computers to allow injection and starter activation. Learn how they work with this clear and concise video. Future videos will detail what to do to reprogram ignition keys. Each manufacturer is different and so is each procedure.

    On older GM systems with the resistor pellet yes. See our video. On newer systems there's a low tech way to disable the transponder key system, but NOT REALLY. What you do is remove the coil ring around the ignition cylinder, take the transponder key and take the two together. Hide to whole thing under the steering column. Then use a regular key to always start the engine. This system will NOT work on some new models, since the computer does a rational check & knows the tampered system.

  • @ADPTraining
    @ADPTraining  Před 11 lety +1

    Did the engine start? That's good for you. have never had a viewer with a post like yours. The 2006 and older statement makes sense. Most systems have the AT module separate or it's a lot more complex system. Thanks for posting.

    No, you don't understand. The ECM and/or the key transponder module talk to each other. Often, the TM is also the ECM. This is a fully integrated system. To adapt this to old car requires also changing ECM or reflashing it, plus adding extra components. Thanks for posting.

    I't made my day when I found out my 07 FJ has no key transponder! I ordered 2 2008 keys with all the electronics inside for 50 bucks and just to get them cut and I programed the remotes, all done. The dealer wanted $350 per key because they insisted the 07 FJ has a key transponder.

    I got the ignition switch, keys from a salvage yard and will go back to get module under the steering column with the wiring harness as well.

  • @ADPTraining
    @ADPTraining  Před 12 lety +1

    It doesn't work like you think. The key cylinder induces and powers the key-transponder, which is inside the key. The cylinder magnetic flux-waves have only a specific range to power the key-transponder. You'll have to tape the old transponder to the blade key. I've seen heat shrinking tape being used. Good luck and hope that helped.

      The issue is that the ECM expects to read or see a DIGITAL CODE from the key. It's in the programming of the ECM. So there's no way around it.

    Am I mistaken or are you making the coil around the tumbler and the coil around the key with the same circuit? I don't understand how a simple wire can imitate a powered coil and transponder. The coil is powered on, and the key responds with some stored code. I understand that you're replacing these encrypted signals with simple voltages that are then passed through the relay to the ECM. I just can't understand how the same loop can be used as both the "transponder" (key) and the induction coil. I feel like I must have missed something in the wiring to the relay, but I can't figure it out.

  • @rd1550

    1999 Ford Securilock Pat w/bad cylinder. Two transponder keys. Does a cylinder need to be installed to use the induction coil bypass methods. As in affixing key to ring and actuating via standard key, heat shrinking transponder to dummy. Simply mating transponder key [plastic intact] to blank was no go. What would you suggest, new cylinder and code to old keys? We disagree on when a scan tool is requisite. We abla Ohm's Law and are confused by 'coding/recoding cylinders' Thanks.

  • @ADPTraining
    @ADPTraining  Před 12 lety

    You need a key that is cut to the ignition cylinder that you have. Then, using the equiment you reprogram the new key or whichever key you have to the Passkey computer. Having done this many times, I can tell you that the key-computer circuitry could be in the ECM, Dash-Module or Body-Module. There's a book that is also needed for this operation. Even if you have the Scanner you need this book. Locksmith people that do this kind of work should have all they need. This is something you can not do

    These modern transponder keys and remotes are fantastic are okay - until you lose one. Then yiu're so screwed it's not funny, We have to ask ourselves, is all this modern "convenience" any better than pulling a kay out of your pocket, inserting and turning it?
    At least you can get those copied.

    • @HDL_CinC_Dragon
      @HDL_CinC_Dragon Před 8 lety

      +Shineymcshine79 This has absolutely nothing to do with convenience. Its a security feature. If someone tries to force your vehicle to start so they can steal it, they have to find a quick way to make the ECM think it's getting the security codes it needs. What could possibly make you think this has something to do with convenience?

    • @Shineymcshine79

    Fiat Transponder keys are the worst. They uses rolling codes. They are the only ones that use programable RAM chips. Other car marks like VW, Ford etc use normal non-programable ROM chips.
    Apparently when you insert the fiat key in the ignition, it uses they code from the last time you used the car. If a key warning light appears during driving, the key is being re-programmed with a new code and is showing an error due to voltage inconsistencies or magnetic fields corrupting this new code transfer to the key. Weird huh?
    Corrupt transfers can occur meaning the next time you start the car the corrupt code is not recognised.
    Incase of this a code card is required and a mathematical procedure not for the fiat hearted is required. Emergency start up.
    You insert corrupt key in ignition. Press the gas pedal until engine warning light goes after 8 secs out then appears flashing. The number of flashes is counted and must correspond to the first code digit on card. Then For next digit, do same thing as before only engine light goes out after 4 secs and flashes again giving a different figure.
    Its really complex, I have a science degree and don't understand it.
    Why is it so complicated in car nobody would really want to steal?
