Cara Alicia Menor, I took the train from DC to New York to attend the Carnegie Hall performance of Isaac Albeniz' entire Iberia Suite performed by your mother on November 24, 1988. After your stupendous Mother performed the Albeniz, she performed 8 encores! People were leaving the hall, and I asked someone why they were leaving. They said because they have to get their train back to Long Island! Your Mom and I went out for dinner afterwards. When I get despondent over COVID-19, I listen to her recordings and they give me hope for life. Stay safe and pray! David

Dear David, I am not in charge of this wonderful "AdL Channel". The person in charge is a fan of my mother with whom I am in contact. He is doing a great job! I also post videos of my mother and, between the two of us, and somebody else, keep her memory on CZcams. Thank you for sharing your memory of that Iberia recital at Carnegie Hall in 1988. Please have hope. In Spain, we are beginning, little by little, to "normal life". Take care! All the best

10 segundos de música dicen más que miles de palabras. Es imposible describir las cotas de belleza y profundidad a las que Alicia es capaz de llevar la música de Albéniz.

This was broadcast two years ago during a programme at France Musique. It's really worth listening. The radio host is so enthusiastic! He adores your mother's playing very much (and rightly so!).

Iberia requires not just conventional virtuosity, but also the hands and fingers of an acrobat. Only someone with her tiny hands could manage to play this music, as she did so brilliantly throughout her career.
OTOH, I've never cared for Lavapies and not even de Larrocha can make this music sound anything but ugly and incoherent...

You need to understand the popular quartier Lavapiés in Madrid, the character of the "chulapos" and "chulapas" (their way of talking), their popular dance "chotis", and the sound of the organillo, which is a bit machine like...that's the reason of Albeniz's use of texture in Lavapiés.
