      @@VictusG Have you talked to modern Ivy League students? It seems mandatory to do nothing but drink alcohol and sexually assault people. They graduate because their parents PAY for them to. Intelligence is not judged on how much you know, but how much you are capable of processing and what you are able to do with the knowledge you have. I have two degrees myself, but I never use them as proof of my intelligence, because to me all a degree is is a piece of paper that says you are good at remembering things and following instructions.
      Take Raeen... he is a very skillful tailor. Tailoring may not be considered as "technical" a field of study, but I guarantee if he had an interest in and had been given an opportunity to go to school for Quantum Mechanics, he'd have done just as well. After all, knowledge is just memory. A quantum physicist might be able to tell you Superposition refers to the ability of quantum particles, such as electrons and photons, to exist in multiple states simultaneously until they are measured or observed. I bet a quantum physicist has never heard of "selvedge," which are the self-finished edges of a woven fabric that run parallel to the length of the fabric, created during the weaving process and are more tightly woven than the rest of the fabric to prevent fraying. Just because Raeen has one set of knowledge but not another doesn't mean he isn't as intelligent as a scientist. If he had been given the chance to learn about quantum physics, for all we know he could have been the greatest physicist since Feynman.

At 7:48 when Wallace's old friend gets in the way of him approaching his future wife, you hear the term "Bone in the kebab". As simple as it is, I love that saying! I'm definitely going to start using it! Sometimes things can get lost in translation, which is understandable. However in this case it was interesting to hear something that you immediately understand even though it comes from a completely different frame of reference. It's just like in the west we might say "A fly in the ointment" or "A spanner in the works". Although "A bone in the kebab" is different it's immediately recognisable. Stirling bridge was actually Andrew de Moray's plan and had he survived the battle, the war of independence may have gone a completely different way, Moray had all the qualities that Wallace was missing, he was a senior noble from a family that had always staunchly rejected the English, he was a seasoned soldier and commander and he also had 3 castles to his name by the time he met up with Wallace.

    Damn Raeen is spitting facts right at the start, when we see history in movies we remember it, absolutely. I think that tells you a lot about how humans work, the things we really remember are the truly human stories where we can really connect to the people involved, not just lists of dates and names (even if the movie isn't exactly accurate, that's kind of besides the point).

    • @goldytwatus1674

      @lorehammer40k4 Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@goldytwatus1674 Because my point was personalizing history is what makes people remember it, tell it like a story (even if history clearly isn't a story). It's just unfortunate it was Mel Gibson making stuff up which was the example that triggered the thought, and not, ya know, something historically accurate. Make sense?

    To this day, if you walk through Edinburgh castle, flanking the doors are statues of Sir William Wallace, & King Robert the Bruce.
    No, their stories are not accurately told here, as I'm sure the experts in the comments will say.
    However, after 700 years, we'll never know precisely who Wallace was. And we'll never know precisely what motivated Bruce.
    All we have are pieces of folklore, and fragments of accepted history.
    As a Scot I appreciate this movie, which tries to generate a compelling story around historical characters.
    There are excellent Scottish history documentaries & books out there, if people are genuinely interested in Scottish history.
    I've never understood why people use the lack of accuracy in this movie as a criticism. It isn't a documentary.

      No, but it is revisionist, and those not knowing the history might well think it fairly accurate.

      As historian Dan Snow said, he likes the film and it it was set in a time in which the English were particularly brutal towards the Scots which the film reflects. The battles happened. Scots using pikes was a thing. Wallace was real and he died in the way the film describes. It showed the nobles selling out the common people and cross-border landownership politics was accurately highlighted by the film. Other things are details but the basic premise and narrative is accurate. Besides the film has a disclaimer at the very start about it saying some of the events you won't have heard about as 'History was written by those who hang heroes'. Finally, sorry to all the English boys who cry cos you're the baddies for once. Maybe go and watch a World War 2 film to wipe those tears away and remind yourself what a good person you are and for what you pretend you did in the war.

    We get taught our REAL history in school , half of this take us 100pc correct , the other half is nonsense made by Hollywood , like Wallace’s son being born to the princess , that’s just comical rubbish . His rebellion , his victories and his eventual betrayal by fellow Scot’s and his savage death are all true . Even though I know Mel Gibson embellished and played loose with this Scottish tale I still get misty eyed at parts of the film . There’s an enormous statue of Wallace in Scotland called the Wallace monument you can look up online or go to visit in person , very moving .
    I seen the guys get emotional especially at the end , because this is a universal story of man’s wish to be free and fight against tyranny and injustice .

The Scottish nationals today want to leave the Democratic UK (using the Democratic vote the UK has gives them) to join the unDemocratic eu, that is run by unelected (by the people) global elites!
