This Is Why We Would Never Become a Type 2 Civilization

- The year one hundred two thousand twenty-three. A giant meteorite the size of Pluto is approaching the Solar System. It flies straight to Earth. But as the meteorite crosses Saturn's orbit, a swarm of miner probes approaches it. The scan revealed no minerals on the object, so the searches returned with nothing.
Meanwhile, the Space Security Center in Alaska military personnel are setting up a laser. The Solar System witnesses a sudden flare and nothing remains of the dwarf-sized meteorite. Now, unless hydrogen miners on Jupiter post videos of another annihilation on social media… This is what the world will look like when humanity finally becomes a Type Two civilization on the Kardashev scale. We’ll have almost infinite energy reserves, the ability to prepare for interstellar flights, or to instantly destroy any threat. But will humanity really be safe? And what can ruin a Type Two civilization?
What can destroy type 2 civilization?
Politician: YES
You sir owe me a coffee I just spat out 😲😲
haha yes 👍
Like a joke, yes, but seriously, unlikely possible 😊
What can destroy type 2 civilization? a type 3 civilization.
Didn't get a definitive answer to that question. Assuming we get that advanced I think the answer to the question is what won't destroy a type 2 civilization. AI will take care of The Dyson sphere for us, and we will not be around to reap the benefits
Pretty sure greed will end human civilization long before we ever learn to get along
our great filter
Very true
You and Mr Ballen are the best channels to go to sleep to. Takes my mind on a trip
We will never be safe from other aliens, because all you have to do is throw something at a planet really fast to destroy it.
It has to be big enough
I honestly don’t even think we’ll make it to type 1
Maybe we will
Probably
We will you won't be alive tho
I doubt it really, seems like we’re already destroying ourselves right now

Storing antimatter away from Earth is safer.
Deep Space: By storing antimatter far from celestial bodies, annihilation risks to Earth or the Solar System are minimized. However, transportation and energy costs are significant hurdles.
Orbital Facilities: Storing in Earth's orbit or around other celestial bodies ensures proximity but comes with risks, like orbital decay causing potential disasters.
Lunar Bases: The Moon might offer a nearby storage location, but accidents could disturb its environment or create Earth-bound debris.
Artificial Vacuums: An artificial vacuum in space could contain antimatter. Even if containment fails, it remains in a vacuum, delaying annihilation.
Hmm.... Are You In A Different Timeline, Luke 100000Yrs From Now. Or Are You Just Another Scientist?😅
Space actually isn't a true vacuum.
@@TheJcris87 It's challenging to prove the existence of true vacuum. We can measure and observe vacuums in laboratories, but these are not perfect vacuums. They still have some particles and radiation.

Hi, I wanted to thanks for all of your thought-provoking videos. I wanted to know about the longest comas both the ones which are still in the condition or awake, but I couldn't find a coherent video. Would you make a video about this subject?
What could destroy a type 2 civilization. My first thought. Type 3 civilization.
Same
Agree
It's depressing, but I always suspect this era of thechnology and development is just a part of history to pass. Like the ancient world and Roman empire before the dark medieval ages. Nobody can guarantee 500 years later mankind will not live in forests as nomads.
What did the Roman Empire possess that the dark medieval ages didn’t ?

Also I didn't say I'm sure. I just said I'm suspicious.
@@yadriano8121if you know more about the subject, you could simply inform this person.
@@kiracarver988 trust me if I knew more I would inform him but I was genuinely curious as to what the Roman Empire Possessed that he deemed was more advanced than what the people in the Middle Ages had
@@yadriano8121 ah, then that must be my mistake, I thought you were asking sarcastically.
We would speed run into a type 2 civilization if only we were all united...
Ultimately, it would require a purge.
I always liked the independent "swarm" idea. It's so much more sensible than trying to revive dead planets etc. It may take millennia but if we took the time and were all on the same page, we'd be able to develop the technology and mining processes to go anywhere by building outwards. We could move the structures to avoid meteors or exploding suns. Once everything is set in place and the aforementioned processes are perfected, we would expand throughout the galaxy very quickly.
Yes if mankind would quit squabbling we would be colonizing Mars in 2 or so years.
@@damnskippy1988 Sigh if Conservatives stopped longing for slavery of the lower classes you mean. And war is such a waste of money.
@sten4982 I dont think you understand conservative policy if thats what you honestly think it is. Most of the slaves on earth are in communist/socialist countries. Conservatives and republicans typically want to see lower taxes and more economic independence. The goal is to incentivise innovation and expand the job market organically. On a social level its just sticking to traditional family values. Conservatives are classical liberals in essence.
& Yes war can be a waste of money, Western involvement in Ukraine is a perfect example, the Vietnam war is too.
On the other hand fighting wars is often the only choice, WW2 is a very good example, as well as WW1.
@@dosidicusgigas1376 I have seen the most disgusting behaviour exercised by conservatives. And to add to this, having been put a fundamental Christian church earlier in life. I could see how their support for conservative (LNP here, Republican party there) and contradictory teachings of prosperity beliefs is just horrible. I like people and conservatives with project 2025 which is full blown fascism at it's finest, look forward to death camps and eugenics programs. Make no mistake conservatives hate socialism like Adolf Hitler hate commies. If you want the Forth Reich in the USA support the Republican party

Wouldn't it be simpler to hide from other civilizations by using that cosmic dust to appear to be a bigger star and hide our planets within

Dyson sphere is by far the most dumb idea i have ever heard of.1. You could never produce enough materials to do that. 2. No one would need that much energy. 3. Someone could come up with a less expensive way to generating that much power anyway.
If You can mine the planets in the solar system, the asteroids and the keplar belt and you will have enough to make several of such spheres, the energy it generates would be used to colonize all the planets and then the galaxy, someone could definitely come up with a good way to generate energy but think about the sheer amount of pure energy sun gives off, nothing can ever come close to that.
I think we will have to advance our species on basic levels for that to happen
yes we will
Could lasers work to wirelessly transfer between a satellite system of a Dyson swarm?
Smart Dust sounds so dope
Where does his art come from. It's mesmerizing.
There’s nothing more beautiful than a smile that struggles through tears.
When we talk about such huge and hot cosmic bodies as stars, problems would inevitably arise with them. It is still very difficult to imagine how we will build something like a Dyson sphere, given all the difficulties. I'm pretty sure this won't happen. However, people in the past were pretty sure that they would always ride horses, so...who knows.🤔
Yeah like building something around an entire orbit would be hard as hell, imagine your just five inches off and can’t link the two ends
Hopefully there would be a automatic way to correct a developing cataract from forming or getting worse an betters the sight in that eye without treatment from a laser

Crazy. I was thinking about mega structures yesterday.

what's to say we don't also find a way of using infrared as a useful energy. Maybe the frequency that would be sent out as waste is a lot of radio.
im surprised we made it this far..
We are barely capable of being type 1 civilization properly.. type two would be catastrophic

To move our star, would we not need a better understanding of gravity and geometrical forces?
Not quite as effective of a display but toss a ball into a pool to represent the sun then toss other balls in that same pool to cover each planet and belt etc, then push on the "sun" and I'm guessing it would collide into the other balls in the pool unless you can keep each planets orbital rotations and movements the same?
if the force is only applied directly on the sun, planet collision wont be an issue
@@Outlaw-db6ee In my mind if we put force on the sun that moved it, unless we add the same force to every other object things would work like the lost planets. Take a large marble and place it in the center of a table, again add the other objects and so on around that marble. If you push the marble it will move but more than likely run into the other balls or get pushed away from them. Could you explain the planet collision not being an issue as again I see the planets breaking away from the gravity that holds them in place and keeps them in relatively the same orbits as they currently are. It's like how the Earth's moon moves further away from the Earth each rotation??? With enough time some have said the Earth will lose the moon and it'll be a "Rogue Planet" or something along those lines. I see the force being put on the sun to move it as having that same problem???
@@n0tfunnyHaHa You have to remember that the sun is already hurling through space at thousands of kilometres an hour, as well as the planets. The reason the planets do not deviate from the sun and get lost is because of gravity pulling them together. This gravity will still be present if we use a force to push the sun and make it hurl through space even quicker, as it will not be possible that the force used will be strong enough to overcome the gravitational force between the sun and the planets. It is just too strong. Instead this force would be similar to a jet booster on a rocket, moving the entire solar system, aside from the astroids and things on the outside that do not have as strong gravitational force to the sun. Maybe if we become advanced enough and can a)store that much energy and b) are able to expell it we might lose pluto (but this is highly improbable).
@@Outlaw-db6ee Here's hoping at some point in time we get to that point, I'm still waiting on my "Replicator, Transporter, Warp-speed, Engage!" So many theories and ideas?
@@n0tfunnyHaHa I agree, it would be incredible for us all to see. Although I think we will see a huge amount of insane technology breakthroughs in our lifetime, one can only dream what itll be like to those who uncover faster than light travel
we would need to break laws of physics and find a way to defy it
5:43 Joules per second??? That's Watts!
Dont forget to think about the fact that you cant take in too much energy than you could store you'll need to turn the loop off when you've got more than enough energy or use the energy for a specific purpose like spaceflight so your using just as much energy as your taking from the sun.

You forgot about the Blakoe Ring.
we are still dependent on newton's 3rd law to move around. we need more advanced laws to make interstellar / intergalactic travels.
Humanity will be gone before becoming a type 1.

We’ll destroy ourselves way before then.

You voiced that Matthew Caplin was from the University of Illinois, yet the visual shows Illinois State University…
Moving the Sun and all other planets would require that much amount of material (to build the structure, etc) that it doesn't even exist in our entire Solar System combined.

An interesting proposition , Which if àny , will become our power supply . Nikolai Tesla , hàd he been able to get Wardencliffe tower functional , with a receiver , this world would be quite different now , but JP Morgan , insisted on profit , while others saboaged his work , or at least tried to . Tesla's car was electeric , run from earth power , nothing else . Why not instead of building a bunch of satellites or a big sphere try and plug into the sun like you do now with your cord for whatever you need power for. I’m sure it would still take a lot of resources but I would think it would be quite a bit less than a sphere and would eliminate the need to wirelessly move energy from satellites to the earth.
If you would, one question among many I have is what would be channeled through this ‘hose’ connected to the sun?
