I went to Krakow about 10 years ago, it was gorgeous! I was 17 at the time and should have appreciated it more. I have some family that lives there and it was interesting to see the cultural difference. I'd like to go visit Warsaw and party it up, then Zakopane and ski my face off.

Rick Steves, you should return to Poland and especially to Warsaw, Krakow, Czestochowa (Jasna Gora monastery), Gdansk, the Malbork castle, Torun, Kazimierz Dolny, Lublin and Zamosc, in order to make a proper programme about the heritage from the greatest and most tolerant nation in the 16th century Europe, The Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth.
The programme should also give the viewers the possibility to explore more of the life of the poles and their rich cultural and culinary heritage.

There's not anything like "German - build" city in Poland.
Some of them have a lot post - German (for example Szczecin and Wrocław) buildings and arts (mostly in Lower Silesia and Western Pomerania), but almost NO ONE was invited & built by Germans.
Kraków is very important for Poles, because it's richful history, and plenty for monuments important for Polish culture and patriotism - especially the Wawel Hill.
Propably that's the most important reason of distinguishing this city by Poles.

krakow in winter is totally different haha in summer seems like a beautiful cultural capital with a beautiful sunlights ...I were in krakow in march and it was too cold but we didnt saw snow. I mean, the views were grey and we were 1 week in krakow and we had only 1 sunny day , well ''sunny day'' because at 5 pm there is no sun. But its an amazing place to visit . But i cant wait to go in summer because if i enjoyed the cold winter in krakow, after watch this video i cant wait to go back in june or in july.

Yeah dude. I was there last summer, and I saw a Corpus Christi proccesion, pilgrimage to Jasna Gora, and the Black Madonna, which was a really powerful and emotional experince. I knew about it, and knew it was important to Polish Catholics, but didn't really know why, or how powerful it was until I actually saw it. I went there to film a segment for my documentary, and when I saw the painting, and all these people praying to it, I just broke out in tears, 'cuz it was just so powerful.

yeah, i love how she says that "all" of Poland was "Catholic and Polish," which kept Poland together. she completely ignores the fact that at the time Poland was less than 50% Polish. There were huge "minorities" of Belorussians, Russians, Ukrainians, Ruthenians. Not to mention the largest Population of Jews in the world at the time. it's just a complete willing blindness to the realities of history in the name of national(ist) pride.

..."Some German historians are inclined to regard Polish medieval towns as a result of municipal German colonization in the East, or even as East German towns. Towns, however, existed in Poland long before German colonists came, and the urban centres contained numerous nationalities as well as Poles".

I've been to Krakow, it's not that great. I honestly think it's really over rated. There are other cities in Poland that are way more beautiful and interesting, like Gdansk, Wroclaw, and Warsaw, which are never documented by television crews, which is a shame, because they have way more to offer then Krakow. Maybe not Wroclaw, but Gdansk and Warsaw for sure. Krakow is the most famous, but it's not the most interesting or most beautiful. It is a must see, but Gdansk deserves more attention.

I have nothing against Krakow, but I just don't understand why it's number one, and they always only show Krakow, and completely ignore the other cities. Everyone thinks Krakow is the best, and they're treating it like it's the only city in Poland worth visiting. It is worth it, but it's not the most interesting or most beautiful, there are other cities in Poland that are worth visiting more. All the German built cities in western Poland are worth visiting way more then Krakow.

The most orthodox catholics sometimes do a very bad job for view of Poland in foreign countries.
They can be very shouty, and almost blindly fanatised.
Some people can imagine it's normal.
    NO!
In Poland they have status of just a couple of the most fanatised believers (mostly old aged), and ashame for normal Catholics.
I'm not a Catholic, but Im not against this faith, and I have a lot of Catholic friends.
90% of Polish community are Catholics?
