What an honour for me to play with “His Whiteness”. Every once in a while I would turn around and say to myself, “I’m playing with Whitey Glan from The Mandala!!”. It always blew my mind. I loved him even more as a friend than as a musician, and that is really saying something.
Whitey could play on a drum set made of cardboard boxes and pot lids and it would sound fantastic. He's straight from the Buddy Rich school of drumming. It's such a cliche, but he is truly an underappreciated guy.
WOW WOW WOW Incredible goove and artistry sadly i only saw him once on the Mandala "after 4 school "concerts on their goodbye tour in Ottawa and Bush on their godbye tour at Ottawa NAC and still listen to these two bands
Thanks to Whitey for allowing this video to be made, and also to whoever made it. It's a record of a truly great drummer, one who seems to enjoy every beat he makes. Damn! It's an entrancing and thorough drumming education just watching his left hand do its 'thang. He was unbelievable in the '60s at a high school in the Hammer, and he's just as remarkable now. Does he give lessons, or does one even dare to ask? Go see him play at the Hollywood on Queensway in T.O. with Danny B. LOL!
Sad to hear that "Whitey" is no longer with us but he is with Donnie playing in a bigger and better band up there now with folks like Billy Preston and BB KIng, Ray Charles all following his lead.
Just learned that born Finn has played drums with Steppenwolf/John Kay, Alice Cooper, Lou Reed...I'm not at all professional, but after seeing this I have maybe some understanding why...Greetings from Finland!
