Killer Instinct Gold: Glacius Playthrough - Master Difficulty

- Got another random playthrough for my peeps out there. This time I tackle another one of my favorite games on the Nintendo 64 during my youth, Rare's Killer Instinct Gold. While Killer Instinct Gold is basically Killer Instinct 2 without the multiple endings and such, it was still a blast to play during those more carefree young adolescent days. Admittedly, I used to play with cheats on for more "interesting" matches with my family and friends. However, nowadays, I play it straight as you will see in this video. Of course, this was made in the same cheap, low-budget style and quality that my "fans" come to know and love (VHS/DVD Recorder option, so apologies if the screen is too dark).
Now, about the character that I am playing today. Glacius was one of my favorite characters not only in this game, but also its prequel, the original Killer Instinct. So of course, I wanted to pick him up. He's still as fun as he ever was since then. However, since its been a long time since I've played (mostly thanks to the cartridge being missing for years before actually finding a copy at a thrift store), the timing of auto doubles after some moves feel off, especially my primary combo starter, the Cold Shoulder. Regardless of this, I still enjoyed playing with Glacius once more despite glaring miscues.
As for Glacius' moveset, as I mentioned, the Cold Shoulder is my primary combo starter as it hits very fast. Most of my first moves will either involve that move or the Ice Lance as the AIs for characters are quite jumpy. I will also be using a lot of Icy Grips as it is the next effective combo starter. The Liquidize and Uppercut will rarely be used as the AIs tend to pick up on that the most and it doesn't help that it is slow, particularly from long-range. I won't even mention the Arctic Blast as I really don't use it at all.
Regarding supers and finishers, due to the nature of how I play, I don't use a lot of super linkers at all as extending the combo too much can lead to combo breakers, and the AI will use it a lot in Master mode. As for normal combo finishers, I tend to get into habit and use the same finishers when I mean to use others. This results in ultras hitting in the low numbers. I hate how the Arctic Slam command is set. It's set in a way where for some reason, if I miss the proper activation, I get the Icy Grip instead. This is one reason why I dislike having two moves that are near similar in command, this is why you don't see me either use it or miss it completely. Finally, Glacius' "No Mercy" finisher is useless in this mode to me as it requires the AI to be off-guard which isn't usually the case in this mode, and his Ulimate is actually simple to do, but I find myself missing it much more than I should.

This game is so awesome. So many memories for me. Awesome music all throughout the game helps to make a game like this so much fun to keep fighting/playing. Such an epic game and one of the best on the N64.

You know, I had planned to do more playthroughs of this game (I was first requested Orchid). Nowadays, however, I don't have the desire to make any more videos, or at the very least, any major playthroughs at the current moment as I just don't have the motivation to do so. So as of right now, I'm going to have to deny the request. I apologize, but I just don't feel it right now.
KI has the most epic music for a fighting game. I so want them to do anther one. There characters were interesting, fulgore being my favorite, coupled with a sweet combo system.
I like how you lost to gargos it makes the gameplay seem more humane as i just can't stand perfection- and it was quite entertaining to watch content on my favorite KI character XD Great job man!

I couldn't ever play Glacius this well. Watching people play spinal and Glacius is like watching someone do calculus
He's a basic rushdown character
I've mentioned about that particular subject in the descriptions. Trust me, I would have done it if I could, but after not playing it for so long before this playthrough and the way the command is set, I just couldn't do it as easily as I used to. Not that it matters to some of my critics, though, heh.
I love every moves of Glacius!! His style is ULTRAAAAAAA

Always enjoy a good Glacius playthrough. Couple of random tips:
Combo's AI is really easy to exploit; he'll try for an overhead without fail if you crouch a few steps away, and it can be parried. This makes it really easy to get a max-hit ultra on him if you've got full meter and finishers, since he's the easiest to trick into a move you can get the parry off of. On the flipside, Orchid, Jago and Glacius are very easy to get full meter on using combo breakers; their punches and kicks are flashy enough to more reliably see which breaker you need than other characters.
Glacius can be baited into a Liquidize if you hang around medium range, maybe jump a little; since its slow, it's easy to get off the correct counter (Icy Grip, in this case,) every time.
Glacius' crouching fierce kick hits twice and includes some forward motion; it's basically a low-hitting Pressure Move. The AI will fall for it a lot if you jump in and do it as they're getting up, and since it hits twice it can lead into a finisher right off the bat (in the arcade version the finisher has a tendency to whiff and you end up with a triple combo though, I don't remember if KIGold was more reliable. It may be safer to follow with a linker and a manual auto-double before the finisher.)
@lordloch I think it says "Fight On." Kinda hard to tell with the other in-game SFX going on in the versus screen.
Well, first, I'll never say that I know this game inside-out as there are advanced stuff that I don't know about. That aside, I honestly don't prefer one over the other. Both Killer Instinct games are quite fun to me, so it I couldn't choose even if I had to.

Half-Circle Back, Foward + MK
Assuming you read my post regarding Sabrewulf's ultra first, then you have the means to access ultras. As for how to do Glacius' ultra, all you need to do is do a quarter-circle foward with the quick kick button after any combo, and there you go.

Off topic, but you can easily tell the mostly all of Rare's N64 titles have similar music. Who ever conducted all this music is a fucking genius. Rare has had some of the best music tracks in all of gaming.

What emulator, lol? This playthrough was completely done on console with the help of VHS and DVD/VHS converting.
I recorded from the VHS, then transferred the VHS footage to DVD. I don't quite have the materials to properly record from DVD not without input lag as of yet with the DVD recorder I have.
I like how the camera scales back when you knock someone in the air. I hope they bring that back in the X1 version.

Good play-through, but I'm surprised you don't end any of your combos with the Arctic Slam. It does a lot of damage and it's the most awesome move in the game to boot.
@714cyjr Hm. I'll consider it, at least. I used to play as Tusk quite a bit, but it might take some time to learn him again since it's been a pretty long while playing as him. I won't make any promises to if and/or when I'll do it, but I'll give it a try to see what I do.

Microsoft renewed the rights to the Killer Instinct franchise as of 9/17/2012.. Pray for them to do something with it..
I use the the N64 D-Pad as analog is usually too loose for me to use. I like my inputs to feel as tight as possible so that I know that my commands feel in place. That being said, it can be tough to get diagonal inputs simply because of the commands that require what seem like pseudo-half-circle motions from what I've experienced, or maybe that my own issue. If that's the case then I would have hit Arctic Slams way more often.
jax from mortal kombat and tj combo would be a badass team, same with glacius and sub zero
glacius is my favorite char to play with in ki1 and ki2, then fulgore, but i find myself back to glacius everytime. hope they bring this to xbox live. hopefully itll be the arcade version.

This was asked before, but I'll repeat it again for those that don't want to read through earlier comments: Glacius and Saberwulf were originally going to be the only two playthroughs that I were going to do, but I did thought about doing more. However, with me not feeling like making more videos right now (barring random exceptions) and working on another project, I have no intention of doing any more anytime soon. So my apologies to those that were expecting more KI Gold playthoughs.

Have you already tried out The_None's Glacius or Orbinaut's KI2 characters? They are pretty solid if you ask me. Unless you did already tried them out at one point, and they didn't suit your fancy.
Since you seem to know the game inside out, do you prefer this, or the original? I didn't play much of Gold but I seem to remember finding it very...slow, harder to control. Could be completely wrong.
Thanks for the compliment, but talented for criticism? Nah, that's not true, heh. If you dig through my older playthough videos, especially those with voice commentary, you might find a completely different and more sillier perspective of how I approach games (for better or worse, of course).

Do you use the analog or the dpad? I recently picked up a usb xbox controller to play on my laptop for a little nostalgia and I found that the joystick is completely useless in registering diagonals while the dpad is extremely sensitive to accidental ups and downs leading to very dodgy control of the move set. I don't remember if the n64 analog or dpad was that great because I was pretty young when I played this natively. On this remote I'm lucky if I can perform a super 1/10 times.

What is the deal with the multi-hit combo breakers? It seems like it only happens at specific times.
Cold Shoulder? That's Sub-Zero's move. Well, it's variation of his Slide move in the Mortal Kombat games, but Cold Shoulder has been there since Deadly Alliance
I think you got the wrong idea about the "fake-out." I know that it's his No Mercy, it's overplaying the fact that I got him to do it and reacting to it accordingly. Also, I mention a little bit about the Arctic Slam and why I couldn't do it as good as I used to in the descriptions. It's not much of an excuse in the grand scheme of things, but that was what has been happening every time I try to perform it nowadays.

Well, if you must know, I've become invested in doing speedruns nowadays. What I call "projects" in this case are speedrun attempts trying to get a good run to be uploaded mostly for fun, but also still good to watch. However, since these are heavily trial and error affairs with lots of random elements depending on the game itself and my own abilites, the attempts take a large chunk of my time. Once I'm finished with my current game, then I'll see what I'll do afterwards.
If they do make a Killer Instinct 3, I hope it has ALL the characters from the 1st two games, of course with a few new ones.

lol of course the fake out during the Jago fight wasn't accidental. he was charging his No Mercy. Trust me...I know because Jago is one of my main's. When you see him do the startup to an ENDOKUKEN while in red followed by the red "dragon" particle coming out and you know he just sent out his No Mercy.

Oh, I see. Because I have the KI Gold game downloaded on my computer and it doesn't show NEARLY as good as your display. Now I see why... it came off the N64 itself! I love Killer Instinct... I also have the Arcade Roms of both Killer Instinct 1 and Killer Instinct 2 on the NU64 Emulator.
How do you make moves speed up and slow down?
