    It doesn't need to be that much. My family member made it through prep hockey right from 13 years old to 17 years old for under 20,000 a year. This includes everything including small class sizes. We chose a program locally so no billiting. That's a lot, but not much more than aaa. I believe aaa was about 15,000 but no where near as much travel, lower quality education, less ice and I don't think as good coaching.
    He got through that then on to the bchl. $2,500 all included. No additional fee's. We have to buy gear but sticks and team wear are free. He's in a good bchl program now. We're very happy.

    Any chance I could get your opinion on the FSL (female super league). My daughter has been asked to play for one of the academies, its U14 so she is still young and quite expensive for us due to the travel. $35k all in, for us thats a lot. The academy is pushing that its an investment into her future, Im torn as she would have to also move 5 hours away. Girls hockey is SO unknown.

    Major junior players keeping their ncaa eligibility would really saturate college hockey.

      Honestly the only league who benifits from it is the CHL. U sports takes the biggest hit. All the Jr leagues that feed the NCAA lose big time. And the NCAA also loses. Players would end up playing out their Jr elidgibilty to get the full CHL scholarship package, which would make the play on the ice in the NCAA better but they would lose all their future NHLers, and thats what the market in the NCAA is for. Theres very little American market for 22-26 year old players who missed the nhl by hair. And late blooming players get the worst of it because there is now no league they can legitimately get noticed in. Which will eventually make the NHL slightly worse by losing those players. All in all everyone except the NCAA’s biggest rival lose

      @JustinSmith-bn3ds you're totally correct. I do believe that the chl scholarships are only for Canadian universities but I could be wrong.

      @@modernman7576 i know from s friend that they are only full if they’re Canadian universities but the commercial where they brag about it they say “North American” so im assuming they get the AVG Canadian tuition price if they go to the U.S and then pay the difference or something but given the NCAA offers more full rides than any U sport division except the AUS (and RESQ only for Quebec born players) they’ll still come out ahead of U sport. It could backfire though, the ones who don’t get full ride offers in the NCAA might draw their teammates to stay in Canada and the NCAA might be completely screwed. I doubt that will happen, either way though it will create a product the NCAA has no ability to market

      @JustinSmith-bn3ds ok gotcha. Ya I don't think it would be good for the ncaa at all.

      Sound like a potential opportunity for a league to compete with NCAA. Not all CHL players will be able to be student athletes.... I would say more will NOT be able to be students.
      Would kill USHL however.

    Honestly your last point is very sad. The privatization of youth sports is trash and making sports unachievable for many people. This will most likely cause a massive decline in youth participation in hockey outside of maybe a few select states like MN that work hard to keep the sport as affordable as possible.

    "Costs quite a bit of money" / "Costs will increase" - these things are said with such certainty yet don't the very producers of this video stand to profit from this model? And make no mistake about it, it is a model. Countries like Sweden and Finland punch far above their (population) weight and hockey costs a fraction of what it does in North America. Let the money grab continue...

    • @cglasford1
      @cglasford1 Před 3 dny

      yeah it's stupid. like everything in the US it's all about making money. This shift to privatization of youth sports is stupid. gone, at least for now, are the days of Rec/city/house leagues for all sports except for the very youngest but I mean they are not starting "AAA" travel programs at U8. I don't even really remember that being a thing until U12 or maybe even U14. It is so sad. Sports in generally are quickly becoming a rich man's game and hockey being one of the worst.

    Hockey is demographically doomed. Swiss/swe ? Models, free (ish) until u15/u13 (?).
    CSSHL schools are 30k/yr
    AAA are 15k/yr.
    Western canadian pricing.
    Us prep schools (ive heard 60k). ?
    D1 tuition.

      Unfortunately what he says about the cost is true, and it will kill this sports eventually in North America. Just see how Europeans are thriving in NBA right now.

    • @cglasford1
      @cglasford1 Před 3 dny

      @@yanpengguo7254 yep, unfortunately that is what it might take to bring back affordable hockey. The privatization of youth sports is garbage. its just a money grab and forcing almost all sports to become a rich mans game.
