    such fascinating thing that i've watched pratcically no air combat tutorials beforehand but always when i decide to watch a clip i realize the move i'm watching is something i already naturally do.

    This is basically a Chandelle maneuver. I just thought it was some maneuver that private pilots had to learn, I did not understand the historical context of the Chandelle maneuver until now. That is so cool!

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  Před 3 lety +4

      A lead turn isn't quite defined as a chandelle as the chandelle purely involves an exchange of airspeed for altitude while turning 180 degrees. A lead turn will not always make that exchange.

    +RequiemBoS *The climbing oblique turn can be useful for the energy fighter* to gain angles and shave off airspeed at the pass, but watch out for the bogey doing likewise. Nose to nose in the vertical is a lead turn with little to no turn room. Suggestion for a future HOWTO: Deflection Shooting - USN Illuminated Sight Mk 8 Mod 2.

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  Před 6 lety +1

      I have plans to do a deflection shooting video on the US sight in the sim which is the N-3A, but if we get some USN aircraft that use the Mk8 I'll make a video on that too.

    Question:
    Min 2:57 you say Lead turn without TR is non raccommended when faster or have worse turn performance.
    Min 4:40 you suggest to counter someone with a better turn performance by take away the TR... actually, doing a lead turn without TR.
    Although I undestand the concept (you actually begin the turn earlier to compensate the bigger radius) this contraddiction confuses me

    What software are you using to animate or illustrate the flight path review? Is this a feature inside of IL-2 or a sideloaded/background program? The software I'm referring to is the one in the thumbnail for this video.

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  Před 5 lety +8

      Yeah...they actually do and more often than you think :-) I use lead turns a LOT and not just against enemies flying in a straight line. People would rather try and go for more difficult high aspect shot instead of performing a lead turn and gaining the advantage to create an easier shot later. It's one of the more under-utilised maneuvers because of this.
