  • 2021 Ford Puma ST Review | Family Friendly Performance!
I'm back! I'm also back with a bang thanks to Ford UK and the new Puma ST. Underneath, it shares many parts with its little brother, the Fiesta ST, which is by no means a bad thing. This means you get the same 1.5 litre three cylinder turbocharged petrol engine which is good for 200hp. It offers a bit more torque than the Fiesta, though - 320Nm as opposed to 290 and that's to compensate for the Puma's extra weight. Speaking of weight compensation, the torsion rear beam on the Puma is 40% compared to that of the Fiesta.
Despite the extra torque, the Puma ST is actually a little slower compared the to Fiesta, although you are unlikely to notice the difference in the real world. 62mph is dealt with in 6.7 seconds and the top speed is 137mph. This power is fed to the front wheels via a slick-changing 6-speed manual, just like the Fiesta. If you opt for the optional Performance Pack (£950) you can also get a Quaife limited slip differential to get better traction in the corners.
Torque Vectoring comes as standard, which is able to brake the inside wheel to minimise understeer when cornering. There are uprated engine mounts to also deal with demands of hard cornering and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres are shod around the standard fit 19" alloys. The steering is 25% faster and the brakes are 17% larger to deal with the extra performance.
The question is, has the extra weight ruined the fun???
Thanks to Ford UK for providing the car for me to review.
Thanks for Dreams2Drive for the supporting footage.

Good evening everybody. I'm back! And back with a bang, thanks to the new Ford Puma ST. Enjoy the video? Be sure to like and subscribe!
Also just a note, I'd like to correct what I said about the VED, the first year rate is actually £555, not £155.

Nice intro. I like the Fiesta as its good to drive. Its just a bit tight on rear space so I'll maybe test drive the Puma next time.

I enjoyed watching the Video Review. If you need more space you should choose the Kuga

You can't get an ST Kuga, though ;) Thanks for watching Jamie.

Buying a puma st but without the performance pack hopefully it will still be brilliant

I've never driven one without the PP, so I can't comment I'm afraid. Thanks for watching.

Good review 👍. I don't 'get' SUVs but I quite like this one 🙂. Would it be an easier car to live with for everyday use than the Fiesta ST, even for somebody who doesn't need to transport family? I'd be glad to here your opinion on this as they are both cars which I might consider.

Hi David, thanks for watching. The Puma would be the easier car to live with if you ask me as it's a bit more comfortable and more practical.

When these were first released I honestly thought these would not sell and it would be too heavy for the engine to feel any good, but everyone who seems to drive these really likes them. I’m still not keen on the looks but it doesn’t sound like a bad car at all

This or the focus ST & why? (sorry if i've jumped the gun early and you covered it in your video!)

    • @CarObsession
      @CarObsession  Před 3 lety

That's a good question. The Puma ST is a very good car, but as a family man, I would also have an eye on a Focus ST estate. However, that would cost more and weigh more, although it would have more power... It'd have better practicality, though... Thanks for watching.

Hello busby, thank for watching and thanks for the question. I wouldn't say it's particularly stiff, but it is firm. I'd recommend taking one out for a test drive.
