I am a mother of two autistic girls.
My eldest was so good and helpful with my youngest that we didn't realise she was also autistic until she was about 16 years old and life began to be more difficult for her.
Autism presentation in girls is so different to boys that it is regularly missed. She admits herself that she masked and didn't speak up as she didn't want to be an added burden.
My youngest has autism 3 non verbal and despite having her tested at six she was not diagnosed simply because it was based on the old criteria basically based on male presentations. She was instead diagnosed with Sensory processing disorder, Selective Mutism, Tactile defensive, Food avoidance disorder, Social disorder etc. (Yes Autism).
They are now officially diagnosed at 19 and 23 and my husband and I have also been diagnosed with Autism.
Because we had autism but didn't realise we didn't recognise a lot of the autistic behaviour in our children because it was completely normal to us.
At the same time we found it easy to empathize and cater to our children's everyday needs because we understood how they felt most of the time. Life was only difficult outside of our home.
It might be interesting to look at all of you individually without comparison to each other to check if more of you might be on the spectrum.
I hope this doesn't offend you, I just would like to save you from my mistakes.

I just want to say that i am so happy i found your guy’s beautiful family! I have my 4 year old son who is also Autistic, but yet my parents and some family members don’t want to accept he is autistic not in a bad way but they just think he need to be around more kids. But me being his mom and seeing everything my child does keeps me more clear that my son is actually autistic, especially now comparing him to some of the things he also tends to do like your 2 handsome boys. For the side eye thing, depending on exactly what he's doing, there could be visual stims involved, too, such as tracing patterns in the lines between the ceiling tiles. A child (or adult) with glasses might explore the optical behavior of lenses.
As for lining up toys and such, it's one of the classic stereotypical behaviors of autism and often given as an example. I think less severe presentations get mistaken for OCD in later life (such as the old joke "I'm CDO. It's OCD, but the letters are alphabetized.")

Your OCD comment just gave me a 💡 about how my Dad was treated as a Child (they would put him in a Closet tied up for Hours) Anyway, Thank you for it as I would like to learn more about this and be an Advocate for Aut/ADHD... Children who develop visual stimming issues also exhibit some of these signs. Like they won't make much eye contact, wouldn't look at you but would get alert when you call their name out.

I definitely had motor delays. I was late both crawling and walking, I tested at an equivalent age of about 3 for motor skills at age 5, and I was in OT for motor skills for 2-3 years in elementary school (particularly my handwriting).
Delayed babbling, not so much. I was talking before I could walk, and I think my parents may even have said before I could crawl.

For looking at your lips, there are actually research papers with eye tracking data on where autistic vs. neurotypical individuals tend to look on people's faces, and there is a very noticeable shift towards the lips in autism (as well as things being more scattered in general). I don't tend to be as eye-contact averse as some, but I definitely don't have the neurotypical drive towards eye contact.
For contentness with being alone, I can definitely keep myself occupied for long periods, but there's some nuance: I'm a huge extrovert, and loneliness does start to wear on me, but behaviorally I tend to seek alone time as it's less emotionally risky. Social seeking has been a learned or relearned self-maintenance behavior in adulthood.

I still toe walk at 19 and I got custom inserts in my shoes that help a lot I can walk heel toe without discomfort for the most part and I also had braces just like Simon growing up but my parents didn't keep up with it like they should of

The hand holding thing is individual. My autistic daughter, Marie, won't do it, but my autistic son, John, will. He is a cuddly 9 year old boy who will hold my hand and snuggle with me.
I have never seen the side eye. John used to elope when he was2, 3&4 years old. He hasn't done it since, thankfully. The last time he eloped I got in trouble with the law because my neighbor called the police because he was running down our neighborhood street and my oldest two daughters were chasing after him on their scooters. I was busy in the house trying to pack everything up because we were moving out of state. I hadn't even realized that he had gotten out when the cops showed up. I ended up getting charged with a misdemeanor offense of "neglect" or something like it because I had been so busy that I had not noticed that he had eloped. I ended up with a court date and a fine. John's misadventure was very expensive... and it also cost me my reputation because the other kids at my daughter's school would tell her that I was a bad person and belonged behind bars. It's been years since that day, but I still haven't been able to make friends after they found out about my one misdemeanor.
Wow, that is crazy. Yeah eloping can be a big problem, thankfully our neighbors have been kind, and brought Ezra back a few times. ❤️
Wow! I am so surprised that you got in so much trouble for that one time! This has happened to us more than once and thankfully our neighbors were really nice and just took Ezra around the neighborhood till they found out where he belonged. He’d been gone for 30 minutes before we realized he was gone. 🤦♀️ it can happen to anybody. I am curious… what state are you in? I’ve heard that some states have stricter laws. We live in Utah and relatively have fairly reasonable laws when dealing with caregivers and kids.
I think girls manifest different signs of autism. For example, my daughter never lines up things. She is not content being alone. She will actually want people to be around but she avoids eye contact. She doesn't do hand flapping, lining up toys or being sensitive to loud noise and bright lights. It's actually very difficult to catch autism in some girls. She is just two years old.
You are right. We have no experience with girls on the spectrum. I often hear that with girls they are sometimes diagnosed a lot later in life because the symptoms are more difficult to recognize.
When I was a pre school age child I remember lining up all my plushies/dolls on a regular basis

I am 27, live in the UK. I am struggling to hell. I have a daughter turning 1 in 2 weeks and my heart has known something is wrong since around 6 months. I am desperate to speak to someone who I could relate to. I have tried baby groups but everyone tells me she’s too young and to ‘’ cut her some slack ‘’ but i just know .. She flaps, rocks, blinks repeatedly, won’t eat anything with texture or try any new foods, stuck on milk and purée jars, she won’t look me in the eye for longer then a second, she used to say mama but that’s stopped now and she says dada but with no intent of what it means. She can’t crawl, she doesn’t stand or walk. She babbles a lot but it’s all gibberish. She doesn’t like cuddles which breaks my heart, she pushes me away! She doesn’t care if I leave the room, doesn’t seek me out. No clapping or pointing or playing with me. She just happily sits on her own playing with toys. She responds to her name 60% of the time but on her own terms. I am desperate for my girl to show me love and affection. I am terrified for her future. My biggest worry is if she’s non verbal…. Do you have any videos or what the signs are of non verbal? I feel like I am grieving the loss of child I imagined I would have. I love her so much but I am craving to feel love back 💔
Thank you for sharing ❤️. Yeah that sounds a lot like Ezra , but keep in mind that the spectrum is wide, and children are so different. Here is a bunch of our signs videos, you can look for Ezra as he is our nonverbal child in those videos for similarities. Your daughter does know and love you, and you’ll eventually get to know how she shows that. It is definitely different, but it is there. ❤️

I don't have a diagnosis, but I really think I'm level 1 autististic. I learned to look at people's eyes but for me naturally when I'm having conversations I look at their lips and I have to remind myself constantly to look at their eyes. I have other symptoms but this one stroke me cause I never knew that was a sign.

My 16months old son is imitating some sounds and he will do some animal sounds if we ask, he is pointing and responding, he will communicate with signs and ask us whatever he wants, he say some small words like apple,cow,sister, car very few, i am worried that he will walk away and dont like to hold him while walking, there are no much meltdowns, he will play with cars most of the time but he asks for toy whatever his bigger sister is holding, he will enjoy the time with his sister. He will recognise his dad, sister, me and his grandmother. He will say hi, bye and give hifi, he show what is nose, stomach, moon etc... He started biting when teeth coming out. He will through things if he gets angry and frustration. Please reply me is everything ok with my son or need to worry?
From everything you’ve told me, it sounds like he is doing quite well. The next time he sees his pediatrician, you could always have the pediatrician do an assessment for risk of autism, but everything you’ve told me sounds like he is not at risk.

Simon will sit and watch tv all day long. Ezra will sometimes sit and watch tv too, but usually only for a few minutes before he runs off.

I have trouble with eye contact and I don't really like to look up, and I don't really like things that are overwhelm, probably this is why I don't like movies and things that are really popular, even some huge cities like New York and Los Angeles

Did you breast feed your ASD children ? If yes, what did you observe that was different about your experiences if any ?
Yes. I did breast feed both of them. And I had a very interesting and different experience with each one. Ezra did not enjoy being breast-fed. He would rather have a bottle. He didn’t like to be held or snuggled, especially while he ate. He would often get impatient if the milk didn’t come and would bite me. It was difficult to breast-feed him, and I ultimately Gave up and only fed him for about four months. I did pump for a while to make sure he could get my breastmilk in his bottle though. On the other hand, Simon was completely the opposite. He loves snuggling so much that I ended up breast-feeding him for 2 1/2 years. I honestly never thought that I would breast-feed for that long. But since he was so patient with me, he would simply come and sit on my lap and wait patiently for the milk. He would suck for a long time until the milk came. I am surprised that I even had that much milk to give him. Usually with all my other kids I wouldn’t go beyond one year. I know everyone’s experience is very different, I think it’s important to simply focus on what the child truly needs. I hope this helps.

It’s really impossible to know unless you get an autism assessment. Since usually there are long waiting lists, I always that if you have concerns to at least get on the waiting list. And as you are waiting you can always change your mind and take your child off the waiting list. So sorry you have concerns. It is really great that he is so social. Our Simon is very social and his autism is only mild at level 1. So he doesn’t have as hard of a time as more severely autistic kids, but it is still really helpful to know his diagnosis.

For my entire life I thought I was the only autistic person who won't hold hands. I can't hold hands, give handshakes, or give high fives, because I hate the way it feels when someone's palm touches mine. I hate physical contact in all forms but the two worst ones are hugs, and anything where my palm touches someone else's palm.

I dont knowcif i ever hrld mums hand but on a lot of my photos of me being young i appeared to be looking at cameravbut i suspect if you had sensors on my head id be looking just past camera so i guess it was masking i wasvokay at home but at nursery id carry my coat and bag around all day and hot upset if they tried to take it off me i fidnt have any strange intrests apart ftom high school and college obsessed in reaserching things really in depth and from age 19 onwards a obsession with readong yellow pages and used yo grab it when it came through door i jeep myself to myself

Children with Severe autism face significant challenges with communication and social skills. They are also the most likely to remain non-verbal or unable to communicate effectively and may therefore require augmentative and alternative means of communication. Hope this helps❤️

There is such a thing as virtual autism. It’s not Autism at all, just kids having way too much scream time. The only way to know for sure is to get your child tested by a professional. And since there are usually long waiting lists it’s never a bad idea to get on a waiting list just in case.

I get concerned I went to throw process now they said he has autism , but since I stop tv and engage with him he had lots improvement but still not playing with other kids other than he got speech now and give eye contact than before . Any idea
At such a young age, it’s important that he doesn’t spend time in front of the TV. Screen time before 2 years old is not advisable. So, the more speech and occupational therapy you can get for your child the better.

Hi, it's me again. Making eye contact is definitely a hard thing to do for autism. But mostly people say it isn't.
Just imagine when a person is crying, would the crying person still maintaining the eye contact to those who are not crying as if nothing is happening?
By skipping the causes of eye contact, let's focus method how to improve it.
1. In the aspect of comfortness, all closed people including peers to the autism might record a face video. Each face video would generate some actions and sound. For example, brushing teeth, wiping tears, eyes with tears, surprise, all the facial expressions that you want the autism to focus, any object to move near or around the eye, record it into the tablet or iPad. Of course, try to say hi, or speak any encouragement. Teach autism, this is mouth, ears, hair, with hand pointing location, left right up down yes no. Be creative to inject the interest. You may capture the full face of the autism as well. Would autism scared of the mirror by looking at himself? You tell me.
2. Getting a video of a magician who likes to disappear thing around the face and reappeared object. Any interesting faces that can catch the interest.
3. Get video from sesame street possible the facial expressions funny takes from the kids. Teaching something useful.
It would take more effort than recording how autism works and how autism behave.

1. Use simple less word language, so that they understand easy and look at you more in terms of time.
2. Position yourself below the child eye level. Making the child less reason not to look at you.
3. Hold things up to your eye level before he reaches the object
4. Make your face more compelling such as exaggerated expression like comedian, silly glasses, moving moustache, wear funny hat.
5. Hold up an object before giving to the child. Pause a while because you may notice how the child may look at you or look somewhere. This might take a while for the child try to get why, by seeing your response.
With those over 12 signs of an autism, one most important method is still zero in on 'Speech Therapy'. There are 15 speech therapy exercises for children with autism on websites. You may google it.
That's it, I found the answer that is, the most common or first line of therapy for ASD is Speech and Language Therapy.
Forget the signs of an autism since it is what you think it is, now we need the sign of improvement from autism.

1. Communication - I Have A Hard Time Controlling My Talking / Speech Speed & Others Will Say I Talk Too Much Or Too Loud This Has Been Going On For Years
2. Social Interaction - This Is The Main Area I Struggle With Along Because People Especially At My School Would Make Insults & Comments About My Appearance Making Me Easily Have Severe Sensory Overloads / Outbursts This Also Has Been A Problem For Years
3. Repetitive Movements / Actions - This Is Something I Also Face Whenever Something About My Routine Is Changed It Upsets Me Even If Its Doing The Weirdest Things Known To Man . This Has Been A Problem For Many Yrs As Well

Thank you for your concern and for taking the time to share it. We appreciate that. We don't claim to be perfect at our parenting, but rather, we share our journey to connect and share with others along the way. Kids CANT consent, but parents like this won't understand. Most kids LOVE being on camera at the time, but that's not the point. It's when they get to high school and older where bullying and trauma from being 'a child star' for lack of a better term sets in. Consent is an impossible concept to get thru to the parents. Unfortunately I think the original poster is mean spirited and doesn't mean well, which also doesn't help get the message across.
I commend the parents for opening their life up for the criticism. That takes some guts. Money talks too but that's a huge decision to make.
They definitely have their hands full with out of control kids. Autism or not, you can teach kids how to listen and respect you as a parent. I just see a lot of brattiness and acting out, typical toddler/kid stuff. 🖤
