The Red Wing "system" needs to change. They used to be a puck possession team during the scotty bowman years, but now are a dump and chase team. They are content to just give up possession by clearing the puck to center ice and waiting for the opponent to regroup.
You need talented skilled players for that type of game
Copp -- easily "below expectations". He wasn't brought in for five seasons at $5.625m per to be a 3/4C. He has to earn that 2C role, and he's done nothing to do that with two seasons under his belt, even if one applies the recovering from injury explanation to his 2022-2023 season..

Patrick Kane- $4 mil 3 years. Yzerman trains gets you behind the scenes and onward towards buffalo sabres with a wink and a smile toward a long and lucrative career in hockey after your (Kane) time on the ice. Kane, who wants term, wouldn't stay for something of this nature? Why not? if he cant dress that 3rd year, we retain whatever Yzerman retains. I think its a slam dunk. Kane wants to be in hockey but we could help get him behind the ice, in Buffalo with a phone call, for him and his parents. Thats making money loving what you do, while having mamaw and grandpa kid access. chef's kiss, of a career and life.

Copp has failed expectations by a long shot
Kane being ppg is great and all, but total ice time wise he's comparable to Sprong, except Sprong wasn't put on a line with Larkin, Compher, Raymond or DeBrincat.
Kane had 18 out of 47 points against playoff teams (scoring an OT winner against Chicago/Mrazek is nice and all, but that's not who you face in a playoff series), he had 2 more goals and 2 more assists than Sprong, and like 15 more minutes total this season.
And I'm not counting WSH...
Sprong had 17 out of 43 (better %) against playoff teams, and very comparable goals against level of competition, with goals in both Dallas games, Vancouver, TBL, while Kane got one on WPG, COL and EDM.
Both a -5 +-
Point is; You let Kane off the hook on so much bullshit that you hold against Sprong defensively, and honestly Sprong looks like a much better dynamic player than Kane, with less giveaways and more takeaways than Kane. Kane sets up plays, and keeps possession, when he's not giving it away, Sprong plays up and down more unrefined but with way more speed and responsibility.
And he's 10 years younger...
Copp/Compher. $10MM for 2 3Cs. Failing expectations or lower.
Compher is far better than Copp. Why Yzerman signed is baffling. Maybe because Capt Cupcake wanted one of his Michigan buds around
@@ericw3229 larkin is one of the few bright spots on this team. And he never played either copp or compher. If that was the case, Bertuzzi would still be here.
@@lyleknight9012 I'm referring to they are old buddies from U of M ( teammates ) and the US development program. Larkin is a good player but far from a franchise player. Former Red Wing great Ted Lindsay once said even a bad team will have a best player. That's # 71 a guy who's missed the playoffs 8 straight seasons. No other Red Wing in team history has done that. Rather dubious distinction. .
what are your thoughts on bringing bert back in the off-season, he had a down year so i doubt he’d be an expensive picky and already has chemistry with a large part of the team
Yzerman got rid of him for many reason. One being that he is lazy as hell and another being locker room poison. I doubt those 2 things changed.
