I visited Ajanta Elora nearly 16 yrs ago. I wonder how time flies, but memories still there 🥰❤️.
    Mesmerizing Ajanta ❤️.
I want to share a short experience, when we visited Ajanta some restoration work was going on, earlier some (nonsense) visiters curved their names on the murals. It was heart breaking to see those destruction, so they repainted the damaged murals. There we noticed a huge difference, original art work was done very minutely and in details but the artists ( who were no doubt very good in their job ) could not able to mimic the old art work.
    Incredible India❤️🙏

Thank you Diyali for sharing your experience.
Ajanta and Ellora are better maintained now a days and there is no doubt that intricate art of that time could not be replicated even today.
You rightly pointed out that some irresponsible tourists disfigure such national heritage. I recently saw that in Gwalior Fort, where people had carved names onto the walls and pillars. It’s sad to see these monuments being disfigured by some people who don’t understand worth of our heritage.

I was in Ajanta and Ellora in 2014.. I went from Mumbai in a train to Aurangabad. From Aurangabad by autoriksha to a mtdc hotel. U
The road from Aurangabad railway station to the mtdc hotel was horrible full of potholes. The autoriksha man apologised and sadly said our government is corrupt they steal money and don't give good roads. So many tourists from Japan and Korea come here, it is a shame for India to receive tourists with back breaking roads. I went by a bus from mtdc to ajantha caves. Entry fee is 9nly Rs 10/-for adult. In Europe such an important tourist place would charge 20 Euro. With cheap rupees 20 entry fee all kinds of school children come fir picnic into the caves sit on the head of Budha in the cave and take pictures. The man a gem of such a beautiful historical monument is so bad by the corrupt mtdc. In Ellora temple one cave is used as urinal smells urine I told the guard how can you allow people to piss inside one cave inside the temple he replied sadly what can I do these people don't listen. It is such a holy place, but they piss inside the cave. There is a Nandi inside the temple on which some one has spat. There is poojari inside trying to make some money from the tourists. I was so sad to see no control supervision Indian tourists do what they like. Foreigners respect and behave with discipline. The frescos inside the caves will not be there after few decades. Mtdc should raise the entree fee to Rs 2000/- then all riff raff uneducated types will not come in large groups for picnic inside the caves and Ellora temple the bus service is also most unreliable.

Thank you for sharing your experience.
Condition is far better nowadays compared to that described by you. Both Ajanta & Ellora are better maintained and guards are strict to control unruly visitors. I agree with you that some irresponsible visitors don't respect the monuments and disfigure walls or litter around. Such behaviour should be strictly dealt with penalties or fines. ASI should also make sure that genuine visitors are not exploited by frauds posing as unofficial guides. I don't think hiking entry fee to that extent is appropriate as it will make it unaffordable for many genuine visitors to explore such heritage places.
