I found your channel while searching for videos on fin rot. Your info is helpful but I subscribed because you're funny. ;)

Very helpful. I thought I had fin rot however after watching this I am thinking it might just be the current of the hang on the back filter that is doing it. Great video and information!

I found a Galaxy koi betta at Petco two days ago, his dorsal fin and part of his tail appeared to have fin rot, his little dorsal fin is tattered and also has little pin holes in it.. I put him in my ten gallon hospital tank with spring water and I dosed with aquarium salts. I so hope he'll heal. Not only is he beautifull, He's energetic and busy, I can tell he loves all the space, he isn't afraid of me, and he has a good appetite. I just love him so much, he's so friendly and I really hope he'll be ok.

I have a 5 gallon Fluval Spec for my betta. I believe he is just ripping his fins in the filter intake/outtake, but I'm not sure. He also has (or had, it's hard to tell because it's in the folds of his fins) a white spot, that wasn't fuzzy, rather flush with his fins. In your opinion do you think it is ripping, or fin rot?
*Sorry if the description is vague, I'm knew to owning betta fish*
Decorations in his tank - Spiderwood, cholla wood, a smooth rock, marimo moss ball, and other live plants

Can old age not be a reason as to why there fin condition might deteriorate? I got my Betta fish around August last year and I believe he was sold to me when he was already quite old, I don't know exactly how old but I have since been informed he could of been around 3 years old. As well as his fins losing colour and becoming ragged, he himself has also lost colour, having tried various treatments none of which have made much difference I am inclined to believe it is old age. I have never seen any signs of fin rot in him or physically witnessed him ripping his fins and he lives alone.

My male betta Scorpio keeps nipping at himself. He was happy in my divided 10 gallon tank until I put him into a 10 gallon by himself and then I decided to put him back into his original divided 10 gallon tank and he still has that habit of nipping his fins. I don’t have the same issues with Piscies Capricorn Taurus or Cancer. My females don’t have that issue either. So idk what is wrong or what to even do with him. I’m thinking of maybe buying him a 5 gallon for himself and see if that works but he doesn’t seem to like to be alone in a tank.

Mine never did it until he layed eyes on my other female betta. He was a beautiful rose tail that id had for 3 or 4months and all of a sudden he decided he wanted to be a crowntail. At first i removed everything but my live plants thinking decor had caused it but then i caught him doing it. Ive noticed he doesnt do it if i let him see the females tank and dont card the sides (she is unfazed&doesnt even notice him-wonder if shes blind lol) but anyways since he seen her it started that and as long as he can see her then he doesnt bother with his fins.he is healing up pretty good but it takes forever for them to grow back and heal completely, he will never be the same though (i still love him). Mine definitley does it worse if he cant see other fish, boredom i think and he couldnt give a rats ass if i add more plants or change decor- he still nipped&ripped. For him its all about the ladies or other fish in general

My water is alkaline, how do I fix that? Is the ph level causing rot?

my tank is a 3 gallon with a built in filter and my betta loves to stay up against it which i think is hurting his fins and i believe he has fin rot as well, which I am treating him for since i can't change his filter could i put some black electrical tape (at least not regular tape obviously) over the suction where it filters enough for him not to lean up against it ? whats the best way for me to get him to stop that?

its important that you dont block the flow completely so putting a little bit of sponge in front it would work or a plant/decor

I recently got a red crown tail betta fish. Tail looked nice when I got him, but now the colour is drained from the tips of the crown and there's definitely a rip between the "spikes" of his tail? My main concern is the lack of colour, it looks like the spikes are deteriorating? Almost looking black? Or see through? I can't tell...

Does fin nipping cause fin rot? Because I think my betta nips his fins then they get infected with fin rot and get worse.
