About Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman:
Louise Lasser stars in the title role of Norman Lear's innovative and bent serial, which combines the drama and pathos of a traditional soap opera with a wry, satirical sense of humor. In the fictional town of Fernwood, Ohio, the heroine, housewife Mary Hartman, lives a life that is a quest for perfection as portrayed by the Reader's Digest and TV commercials. She is ravaged by mass murders, venereal disease, low-flying airplanes and a waxy yellow buildup on her kitchen floor. Sharing Mary's world is her husband (Greg Mullavy), their 12-year-old daughter (Claudia Lamb), her parents (Dody Goodman and Philip Bruns), her younger sister (Debralee Scott), and the Hartmans' best friends and neighbors, an aspiring country singer (Mary Kay Place) and her older but devoted husband (Graham Jarvis).

I barely remember this show, I was so young but I remember that it was so bizarre. Wasn't there a story where a guy drowns from a tablespoon of Mary's chicken soup at her breakfast nook. ???
When I was 10 in 1976 my mom's best friend told me how funny it was and I loved it and never missed it. Yes I understood the humor and satire evenat 10. It cracked me up.. What a treasure of a show. Thank you genius Norman Lear.
One day I'm going to set aside time just to download all of the Mary Hartman Mary Hartman episodes. I think there's like 200 of them. I absolutely loved this show back in its day.

This was such a great show I was 11 when it came out and it has forever been in my mind. I bought the DVR of all the episodes. I think you need to love Satire I don’t think the show was before it’s time. Had it appeared later it may have last longer. What a trip.
