- Ever thought you might like to try a VCarve inlay but were unsure where to start?
In this session Todd will walk you through the basics of how to create a one-color v-carved inlay and then move onto putting that inlay in the bottom of a dish. After that it’s a simple job to make that same inlay using two-colors, and to prove it, he’ll cut that one in the labs and show you the results!

One thing you need to do when making your plug is to mirror the plug horizontally. The design you used is symmetrical so it doesn’t matter but a bird or shape like that will not fit when you flip it over to insert it.
Thanks for the comment. Yes you are correct... and if you purchased the 2023 UGM pack and they are not flipped, please redownload the pack... I corrected it after I relised there was a mistake.
@@vectric I did enjoy the presentation. You guys are great and very creative. There is so much good content from your channel. The software just keeps getting better and better. Thanks for taking the time to help those of us who love woodworking to be inspired.
sehr gut erklärt !!!
da die meisten Leute in der Welt mit Millimeter arbeiten wäre es super in den Videos das zu berücksichtigen
Danke für den Kommentar!!! Wir werden das bei zukünftigen Videos berücksichtigen... :)

Thanks for the comment!!! We will keep that in mind for future videos... :)
I followed the instructions but found that the plug was about 1.5mm too small, showing gaps. What can I do to fix this? Thanks,
Hello, I would contact Vectric Support - Support@Vectric.com - they can dive into this for you.
Thanks, enjoyed this. Learned something again. Every day is a school day.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!!!!
Might be a silly question, but I don't understand the purpose of the Inlay toolpath when you use v-carve toolpaths for inlays instead.
The inlay tool path is useful if you want to make something like a child’s puzzle with shapes or letters, and other things like that. Some shapes are simple enough that you don’t have to bother with all of the extra complexity of a v-carve inlay.
Thanks a bunch - I understand now. @@MachinedInWood
Well answered!!!
Why do you cut the plugs first? I have not tried this yet and am anxious to try it, but not understanding well enough yet.
Hello Alan... In my process you need the plug first so you can glue it into the pocket while the pocket is still on the machine. You kinda need to so this so you can surface the plug. Give it a go with a few scrap piece of wood... I'm sure it will be easier then you first thought. :)
Just a note... if you purchased the 2023 pack please be sure the file you recieved for this project has the plugs mirrored... if not simply redownload the pack it will contain an updated file.
Where do I find the PDF reference sheet?
Hey @keithmurray7748 the PDF sheet is available as part of the 2023 UGM purchase bundle. You can purchase here if you wish - ugm.vectric.com/purchase
