2 business cards thick would still worry me, no matter how many people tell me that its fine. Hearing stories like this is the exact reason why I only like to buy guitars in person.

True, some guitars are lifeless. I’ve played many that had over cut nut slots and random shims in the neck pocket that created weird neck angles.

Just picked up the newest version of the Silver Sky SE and it immediately became my favorite guitar. We adding Micah's artwork to it and can't wait to show it off!

I just got my Silver Sky SE last week. I will have to look at mine when I get home. Nothing caught my eye on first inspection but I was pretty stoked to just plug it in lol

Isn't the SE version awesome? I have a stone blue one, and the neck is better than every Fender I've ever owned. (Congrats on your Silver Sky!)

The added on gear trick with retailers is very useful and most of the times actually works.

Thomann offered me $30 off my purchase because the guitar arrived with a couple noticeable blems and a pickup was eschew. I told them I would accept $50, and they accepted.

I returned 2 MIM Blacktop Strats I got from another dealer because of issues similar to this... and glad I did, because the 3rd one was the charm... it's a great guitar! When I recently got my Meteora, from Sweetwater, the nut was really badly cut... but there was no way I'd send it back for that .. I wanted that thing so badly... but Sweetwater came through and paid for a new nut to be cut by a luthier...so I asked for a bone nut... and in my mind got an upgrade for no cost to me... just hope Sweetwater wasn't on the hook for that, since it was really Fender's quality control that dropped that ball. I really trust Sweetwater as a dealer that will have your back if you get something you don't like... and I'm loving my Meteora now! I'll be dropping a Vega-Trem into that baby .. soon as I get it from them... it's the only mod I can imagine at this point... well, maybe some pick-ups... any suggestions Phil? I'm thinking P-90 style in the neck and Hot Humbucker in the bridge? 🤔😎🤘🎸🐦🥒

Mine is awesome! Just took off the truss cover and bang! Wicked guitar - great backup guitar for my main strat on tour, and using it a lot!

Maybe the neck moved in shipping, wasn't securely screwed in? But like Phil says, if it concerns you, send it back with a reason why, and expect 'better' on the one they send out...

I have a Silver Sky SE and it is an amazing guitar, especially at this price. I have had no issues with it. I have also owned the core version and I actually like the SE version's neck better.

I can usually get a retailer to throw in some strings, picks, etc. Maybe I'm a softy since that's what I usually ask for is something like strings, guitar stand, strap, and so on.

Funny, I might have viewed that as a plus - a little gap means less chance of a stress fracture when things shift with the seasons.

Love the different method of looking at issues depending on make. Big gap in the neck-joint a PRS? "Meh, it's not a big deal and won't effect playability". Slight lacquer overspray on a Gibson? "Unacceptable, shoddy for a 2k guitar...blah blah blah reeeeeee". Hilarious.

Yeah $900 vs $2000 of course there’s no difference in expectation
The binding in my Epi les Paul wasn’t scraped right for me no big deal if it was a Gibson I would have returned it. $2000 for a block of wood better be damn perfect.

I've been adjusting Fender necks/pockets for 50 years. Leo made them as cheap as possible. A match book, screw driver and your pen knife, sometimes during break at a gig. LOL That's why Strats/Teles are 1500 and LesPauls are 3000 (aprox). I've sold them because they didn't sound good, every one is different. But a good one that needs adjustment is a keeper. LesPauls are a different story. But Fender, that's just the way it is. (Boy am I gonna get some heat for this one LOLOL) JMHO... --gary

Mine has a bigger than I'm used to gap, one biz card will definitely fit but it plays so good I don't care really. It's not that bad on mine but I did notice it pretty quickly

I've seen US bolt on neck PRS guitars with the neck pocket on the body with a gap...the Dustie Warren CE has it...I don't own one, but I played a used one that was in a GC close to where I live...it was a good guitar I wouldn't at all mind having...

In 1980 I purchased my first, brand new guitar. A Fender Stratocaster, just like my idols, Ritchie Blackmore, for $550. This guitar was made in USA, and is the biggest piece of shit I have ever owned. It has had, from day one, a neck pocket gap. Being relatively new to playing guitar, I didn't know what to look for, or beware of. I still own this 'boat anchor' the thing weighs over 9lbs. If you picked the guitar up out of a guitar stand wrong, you'd hear and feel the neck 'click' or some such noise, and it would need to be tuned AGAIN. Tighten up the screws would help for awhile, but didn't fix anything. You can only tighten wood screws up SO MANY TIMES. Junk guitar. I only keep it for sentimental reasons.

Bought a CE-24 with the same issue. Sweetwater had 4 others that were exactly the same (large gaps). Sent pics to PRS and they responded: “That’s normal”. Ehhhhhh.

I just bought a American original 60s strat last month in shell pink. 2100$ and it has a gap on the right side of the neck that a pick can slip into. Doesn’t seem to effect the guitar at all . Wasn’t happy when I first got it but now I’m ok with it. Should I be worried? I will send pics of it. Kind of bothered since it was so expensive.

I would contact your guitar shop and/or Fender. You paid for a premium guitar not a Squier.

dude I bought one too!! just 2 weeks ago, there is a really, barley noticeable gap right between the guitar neck and the neck plate cavity where they touch, picks can't fit but a thin piece of paper can. barley goes in though, not really a big deal for me
