Finally got this one done! Long video that took me a long time to make! Please if you enjoyed it consider subscribing and liking and such, I hate asking but this was a big project. Thanks, as all ways
Edit: Thank you to everyone whose been commenting and watching! This was a big project for me and it's good to get all the feedback I've been getting! I probably won't talk about Fairy Tail for a bit, just cause this video kind of burned me out and there's other stuff I want to do in the meantime. I hope you'll stick around regardless.

I subbed. I don't agree with alot that you said but I will admit I am biased. This show is such an inspiration to my own character and life. I understand at the beginning of the show it seems to have alot of questionable circumstances but I promise you everything wraps up nicely as you proceed through the show. Questions get answered. Backstories are exposed and explained. And everything is connected. Also as a fan of the grand magic games you better be nice reviewing that arc. It's one of my favorites. I personally think the story picks up in pace and lore during and post grand magic games. I appreciate the in depth review you gave. Most reviews just gloss over everything without looking in between the lines.

Natsu is a complicated one lmao. Even HE doesn't know his own backstory, you have to learn it along side him. He also matures throughout the whole series. With the other members of the main group you get their backstories per ark, like Erza = TOH, Gray = Galuna, etc. But for Natsu the ENTIRE FINAL SEASON is his backstory arc. Plus the end of one of the movies. And his "true identity" was foreshadowed as far back as the battle of fairy tail. So personally, I love it. I can't say any more because that's spoilers but just know he gets SOOOO good.

I don't think he matures much if at all thoughout the series. He's still has the same personality and mindset as season 1, and it's usually the other characters that have to commit to more serious moments that deal with more depth. Lucy by comparison has had a great deal of maturity and growth. She grew from being scared to fight and acting like a damsel in distress to taking on powerful wizards to protect her friends and save her entire guild. It's more of her growth that we see throughout the series, not really Natsu's. If there was a charcter that would have to be the catalyst for making change to others in the story, it would be Lucy since she's shown to be more intelligent and emotionally mature.

I really like the Body Swap episode for a couple of reasons.
    1) It was interesting to see how other characters reacted to magic they had no training in, like Lucy drooling ice cubes in Gray's body, and how it softly informed us a bit about their magics and how they live with them.
    2) I like that it foreshadowed Loke's reveal as a Celestial Spirit, even if the reveal would've probably been just as effective without this episode. I wasn't expecting that sort of thing for a one-off ep, especially since it ends jokingly where everyone else in the guild has swapped bodies.
    3) As shown briefly at 2:00 of your vid, I like that when Gray swaps with Lucy, one of his first reactions is "Holy crap, my back is killing me." Big-busty anime girls are sort of a staple of Shonen at this point and, even though this moment is very small, I like that it shows the reality of having big breasts isn't fun and games. Granted this sort of reality is never mentioned again but it's a cool grounding moment that I can appreciate, especially as the FT girls get more exploited for fan service and gratuitous almost nudity later on.

8:25 There is an explanation, Erza is immune to eye magics as it has been mentioned in "Battle of Fairy Tail" arc when she was freed by Evergreen's stone Eyes.
So it's natural that Aria's magic isn't effective against Erza since his magic awakens when he opens his eyes.
By the way, you focus 100% more in things you dislike while you mentioned shortly things you liked.

One of the reasons the magic council doesn't intervene a ton when fairy tail gets involved in things is bc they don't really like them and they always hope they'll either wipe themselves out or someone else will do it for them LOL. They see fairy tail as a problem guild... the council is problematic through ALL the seasons haha. Also, Lucy is also my favorite character and she gets so much stronger as the seasons progress, also into the manga sequel! You have to remember that she comes from a different background than everyone else in the guild, and she hasn't had time to hone her skills yet. That's why she's weaker in the beginning so we really get to see her journey to becoming more powerful! Also remember that Lucy's celestial spirits ARE her magic, they are an extension of her as much as Natsu's fire or Erza's weapons... they're her greatest assets and friends and one of her defining traits is how she works with her spirits. I think some things you dislike or are confused about will be explained later on in the series, I hope you keep watching, Fairy Tail is one of my favs!

I'm really excited for you to do more episodes of this series (if you're planning to) because I feel as if you have a really unbiased and unique take on it and I so enjoyed hearing you talk about it. In my opinion, the show *really* matures and grows in later seasons (specifically the Grand Magic Games, Tenrou and later, Tartaros arcs - which are probably considered the best arcs overall if the fandom were to give a general consensus). The emotions are really on edge in those and I will say without spoiling it that some secondary-ish characters such as Jellal, Gajeel, Juvia and others gain a lot more development, specially Jellal in relation to his feelings of guilt and internal conflict (seriously, he is the most guilt-ridden person in the show). If you liked the showcasing of the other secondary characters and their skillsets, personally I think you'd love the grand magic games arc if you get far enough into the show, It's by far my favorite apart from much later in Tartaros. Again, great video, looking forward to more!

Surprised you didn’t like phantom but honestly after you pointed out it’s flaws I totally understand. Whoever I watch that arc I think I just get Juvia tunnel vision so she’s all I’m really focused on. When rewatching arcs I always tend to only pay attention to the plot points I liked so I guess I never noticed it’s massive flaws since I was just peeping myself for gray v Juvia, Elfmans backstory, and the teases of the Loke arc, but ya looking back it has a LOT OF PROBLEMS. Surprised you thought the Galuna island arc isn’t a fan favorite. In my opinion Galuna island is usually regarded as the first real Good Arc since the lullaby arc is so short and is still considered “introductory”. It’s the first arc that really delves into a character and their backstory so it automatically gets points for it’s emotional hook. When we first see gray freak out From seeing Deliora and then cry, it builds immediate intrigue as to how he’s connected to everything. And Grays a pretty popularl character. Def not as popular as Erza or Lucy probably but most Female fans like myself like Gray more than Natsu when it come to the main boys. So ya. But glad you agree that the Loke arc is the best there is. It’s so good and even though it’s so short, you get so much from it. There’s nothing to hate about it really.

  • @stefyt7308
    @stefyt7308 Před rokem +8

I see you mentioned a lot of times the fact about Phantom Lord being an official guild and them being as evil as they were made no sense and I kind of would agree with you, unless. Well, they actually kind of explain the reason behind that much later on, how Phantom Lord was created as to be a rival and full of hatred guild towards Fairy Tail. So, if you think about it, since the begining of the Phantom Lord guild, every member of Phantom Lord was enforced the idea that Fairy Tail is the enemy. So it is not really the fact that Phantom Lord was evil, for them it was not just an attack on another official guild, but an attack on their guild's enemy. Also we got to take into consideration that all of Fairy Tail is told from Lucy's perspective, it would make sense for her (being the target) to see them as the absolute evil, as they are the people who attacked their guild. Fairy Tail is my all time favorite anime as the backstory of each character makes you drawn closer to them, but you make some really good points in the video about some parts of it being pretty bad. I recommend you continue watching it, would be interested to see you react to the next seasons on Twitch or w/e.

Oooooh damn! I know I've already commented but I just want to say how much I enjoyed this video. As someone who first watched Fairy Tail on Netflix and could only endlessly rewatch season 1 bc I couldn't find the other episodes anywhere else, this was so great. While I don't agree with your entire standing (except Loke's Arc, obviously the best and deserves the number 1 spot), your reasonings behind each arc's placement were perfectly reasonable and compelling- and I agree with basically all your criticisms of the show's pacing and structure.
I also want to say kudos to you for putting out this video and making it as long as it was. Skimming your channel (after subscribing, of course) and looking at past thumbnails, a lot of them were under 10 minutes (with one of the longest being like 15) so to go from that to this 50-minute MONSTER of a vid is a real achievement!

  • @shortsismakingmybrainrot

Wow you got guts. Knowing what I know now, I think the version of myself who watched season 1 would be think I was totally crazy for thinking how I do rn after finally reaching the finish line. And if I had put my opinions out there at the time and had to own up to it now when I've changed my mind, I would be too embarrassed to face the internet again 😂
That being said, I was a cringy tween at the time I started this journey, so that adds to the embarrassment.
Fairy tail is one of those anime that I liked at first for its humour and characters, but as it went on, the development is what really got me. There are just elements to it that I really, really love.
I love more than anything how they reuse the characters from the previous arcs. They'll just pop up when you least expect it- villians and side characters alike. I'm obsessed with how the reformed villians often end up joining and assisting the heroes. How they often have sad back stories like the heroes do, and how after meeting them and realising how they could be, they decide to learn from that positive influence and do better for themselves.
I absolutely adore character development, and I even love it when the villians and side characters reappear even in flashbacks as character development for the main characters to overcome. They just get mentioned at times that make sense and I love that the story continues to use and not just forget about the vast array of characters it sets up.
The main cast and guild is super fun and even though there is so many of them, I really felt like they were family. Like I was part of the guild too, I was drawn in by the warmth and comraderie that just made me feel less alone. It was my comfort anime for that reason, because it was so upbeat and heartwarming with their friendship and true care for their friends. Power of friendship all the way. Fight me.
Also, the lore and world building that all builds up to the main villian and the key players in shaping the world is actually pretty cool imo. There is actually a lot of cool foreshadowing and build up that dates back to the very early arcs and gradually unravels in a way that felt natural to me. As it the story goes on and the characters get stronger, they are exposed to more and more of that underlying plot that leads to the big finale quite well. The majority of the arcs and challenges the face relating to dark guilds and magic threats links to the key figures that set up the very world building in a way that just makes sense.
I like that the world building isn't exactly clear at the start. I definitely enjoyed finding out more and more about the history as the story progressed.
The fight scenes aren't spectacular imo, but the music makes them. Call me biased bc #violingang but Fairy tail has a better sound track than one piece. So badass and emotional and perfectly fantasy. It would not have made it through without the music, let's be honest here.
Also, another thing that helped me get into it is that the characters aren't just funny and have cool powers and backgrounds and personalities of such a wide variety that there's something for everyone- They also very attractive. Like, I'm a simp for Jellal and the ships are really cute. The character interactions and different chemistry and conflict make it a breeding ground for fanfiction. I love that the guys are as hot as the girls and that Erza is Erza bc we need more strong women with active roles just kicking a**. She is like the perfect role model who I really looked up to watching this as a kid.
All in all, I started bc the character designs were cool and I loved the way the characters developed around each other and that the side characters just kept coming back and the world building unfolded and weaved itself around them. Yes, maybe the plot, pacing and fight scenes lack compared to other shounen. But as a show? It had a lot of strong points that make it enjoyable that other shows don't do as well, in my humble opinion. It's subjective after all. I love fairy tail and I will rot on this hill.
Also, as I watched the video, I had a few comments so I'll just leave them to rot in a reply below this comment. Nice work on the video, I really do admire your courage, emotional strength, mental fortitude and maturity to make public an opinion that you may have to retract 8 seasons later. That being said... If you instead drop the anime and don't make a hindsight video addressing how you're opinions have changed at the end of the final season I will be disappointed, but oh well, forcing someone to watch an anime will only make them hate it more. Nevertheless, I am subbing to your channel in hopes that future videos come bc I really am curious about which opinions will change.

      25:05
"The hero characters tend to be the only ones that get development"
Ya got 8 seasons ahead of ya. Plenty of time for that. Even mr main character Natsu doesn't get fully developed or gets his background revealed until the very last season. Yeah, this show will drag things out like that.
25:18 "you're neither pure evil or a hero"
Also about it being morally unambiguous... Maybe for the first season, idk, but I can think of a bunch of times where the villains really do have their hearts in the right place. This even includes the big bad villain at the end. A lot of the characters, even the villians, just have really sad and complex backgrounds. I mean, it's basically about a group of orphans that grew up together working at a guild and become each other's family.
Another thing about fairy tail is that it isn't afraid of redemption arcs. I actually love that most of the villains join up with the heroes at the end of the day. It gives me hope and faith that people can change 🥲. GaLe actually really really grew on me. I'm just a sucker for character development ig. So when you talk shit about Gajeel my little heart breaks.
I don't like villains that just appear once then vanish. Please have them be relevant and come back and appear in flashbacks and be mentioned and Eve get recruited to the good side. I actually like that about fairy tail.
Even though you feel that there are too many characters which stop the story from working as well as it should, that's actually the main appeal to me. By the end of 9 seasons, I had grown so attached to nearly each and every one of them. Sure, variety might sacrifice a little depth but I still love them all. It literally felt like a home- so warm and welcoming. Like I was right there along with them. It makes for a great comfort anime.
As for the plot? Who even cares. I just want to see Natsu being a dumbass and laugh along with all the goofy interactions. I want to see my favourite characters goof around then turn around and kick a**. A little angst, then a solid beatdown. The soundtrack is the best part of the show and truly makes the fight scenes. If not for the music, I probably would like it as much as I do, not would I have been sucked in.
I will defend this show until I die though. If someone sits through nine seasons of a show, you better believe there is some intense emotional attachment that refuses to let you badmouth their precious baby.
25:55 "ends a little too upbeat"
Dude no. Just stop watching it at this point, fairy tail will not give you what you're after if you want something depressing. Go watch clannad or smth. I don't watch fairy tail to get depressed. It is a happy heartwarming anime at it's core. About smiling through bad times, and that although people can have sad pasts, they can get through it and be stronger together. Don't expect arcs so end on a sad note, they don't (usually).
It's my comfort anime for a reason. I wouldn't watch it when I'm sad if it was only going to make me sadder.
33:00 it's all to do with his relationship with Laxus that he was like that. I didn't see anything wrong with that part in the story. He's very strong and will di anything to protect his fairy tail family, yes, but he also is getting old, resulting in health problems and he has family troubles with the grandson. He had character flaws and weaknesses and isn't just insanely OP. I think that's good set up. I don't think a character's weaknesses keeping them out of battle is too stretched to be reasonable. It's not really just a weird excuse when it seems to be an inherent part of his character but maybe that's just me.
34:30 *deep breathing as I refrain myself from screaming "he's favorite character in the entire show" so loud my neighbors give me a noise complaint*
I don't wanna spoilers but let's just say he stays relevant and I much prefer him like that to just being a villain. Also, the real villian is set up through the entire show, and he's even morally ambiguous *face palms in "I know the future"*
Maybe bc you also don't live in a vacuum, you probably won't be able to watch it completely blind and spoiler free as I got to, nor will you have a nostalgia filter nor the exact same level of appreciation for pretty men and powerful women, so our experiences are bound to differ.

    • @shortsismakingmybrainrot
      @shortsismakingmybrainrot Před rokem

Owo came back to this video somehow and reread my old comment and to add something else, I think I like fairy tail's "morally ambiguous" villains so much because I can really see the good in them. They do bad things but they're not necessarily bad people, and I empathise with them and even like them quite a bit. They're not truly evil, but have taken a path that hurts others, largely in part due to their own pain. Despite being villains, they are sympathetic and likeable and even good.
And I like believing that even people who do bad things believe they are doing the right thing and can even have good intentions and we can even see that from their perspective and understand. No one wants to be a terrible person.
I don't need a villain I have to hate and fear- I honestly feel that it's almost more pure and wholesome that this show chooses not to do that. Because in reality, some of our enemies and "villians," are also not bad people and they have a reason for doing what they do, even if it's something bad that we don't like. I relate to that in reality much more than this evil twisted villian I'd likely never encounter regularly in real life.

Alright. So look at S1 as a giant pilot episode showcasing the Main Core and the Sub-Main Core and the Sub-Sub-Main Core members of Fairy Tail. The reason being that the story TAKES OFF after this. More lore and backstory and everything. This season is just introductions to get to know everyone (that's important).
For Phantom- Lucy's main battle wasn't with anyone in Phantom, just her father. Why would she need to go after them, when he hired Phantom to bring her home?
As for Natsu, Phantom came destroying his home, nearly killed Gramps, and kidnapped his partner. But that's just Nastu, so it's expected anyway. Heck, Natsu just wanted to knock them off their High Horse right after the TOH arc. Natsu just doesn't take disrespect.
Oh, and Phantom is cartoony on purpose. You'll understand after a certain point in the story.
But yeah. This season is just establishing the characters as they are.

I've been looking for some Fairy Tail reviews and that's how I stumbled upon yours! It was done really well. If i can offer an advice, the clips from different shows/movies you were putting in were much louder than your voice, which caused me to lower the overall volume everytime they played. It was a bit jarring and disrupted the flow of the video. Other than that, I have no complaints. :D
Fairy Tail holds a special place in my heart, being the first anime i ever watched. I have seen the anime up to the Tartaros Arc, and couldn't wait for the continuation of the series, so i've read the manga, and i glad i did that instead of watching the last arcs of the series, because in my opinion the animation takes a huge dip in quality :(
You can't imagine how flabbergasted i was when seeing the clips of some of the most intense moments in the manga, being animated in a way that made them look so flat and lacking of tension. Not to mention how most of them were animated during the day?? Sure, natural light or whatever, but it really takes you out, when you have this dramatic moment and then baby blue sky in the background, especially if you imagined the surroundings differently when reading the manga.
Back to the video, from what i vaguely remember about those arcs, i agree with a lot of what you have said here! I think the Phantom Lord arc should have been centered around Lucy more. And I they way they established the relationships between the guilds is so weird in my opinion. If the guilds are rivals they can just attack each other out of the blue? Destroy their guilds?? Like you said, WHAT IS THE MAGIC GOVERNMENT DOING. It would make more sense if Phantom Lord was a dark guild, since i can't imagine that a guild established through legal means would ever take a commission to kidnap someone. And if they did they would be punished like any other person/organization. Kidnapping is a crime, and it being committed by a guild doesn't suddenly make it an inside buisness where the magic police cannot interfere or something!
Huh turns out i have opinions on this anime lmao. I may be blabbering a bit, but that's because it's been a long time since i thought of this anime and the nostalgia is getting to me. Anyway, Lucy supremacy, she deserves the world. I hope you'll have fun if you continue watching the series! It may not be the greatest anime, but it has it charm... most of the times. I am looking foward to hearing your thoughts about Tenrou Island Arc, which is one of my favourites in the series, along with the Zero arc.

First off the wind element four guy him and Natsu never interacted. Why would he be the one who took him down? I feel like the rivalry between him and Gajeel have a more clear rivalry being the only other dragon slayer he has met. I’m not going to worry about your hatred for Gajeel right now since he gets better the more you watch the show.
Any way I can go on and on but I’m tired so I will just leave it at that. I’m not saying this arc is perfect just that those criticisms are weird.
Ok what I really should say is that the good in this arc heavily out ways the bad in my opinion.

Yeah, the bit about Natsu VS Aria being "built up to" was a bit weird to me. For starters, Gajeel was established as the strongest member of Phantom Lord (Outside of Jose), which makes him the obvious candidate to be Natsu's opponent even before factoring in their shared Dragon Slayer connection.
I do agree that Erza shouldn't have gotten to solo him, though. Between tanking the Jupiter Cannon, low diffing Aria, and somewhat holding her own against Jose, she just does way too much. At absolute most, she should've been weakened enough to need help against Aria, maybe from Cana or Mira or someone, or better yet, that fight could go to Lucy, and instead, Erza only recovers in time to just barely hold off Jose until Makarov arrives.
But yeah, while PL is generally considered peak by most of the fandom from what I've seen (Granted, that's with the context of Gajeel's later development, PL's eventual backstory reveal, etc), I was never _that_ big on it, and Persephone definitely raises some valid criticisms. I hope to eventually hear his thoughts on the rest of the series.

36:45 i think is was really good, it shows how her friends would be without her and i think its why she survived being merged with the tower.
I like the phantom lord as it is a guild that is the complete opersite of fairy tail they dont really care for their members for example juvia was depressed untill gray came along. They only cared to getting paid by ransoming lucy back to her father.
Gajeel reflects what phantom lord is too, a ruthless guild but his character ark shows that can change with the right poeple and morals surrounding him since he joined fairy tail and didnt really care about them to the complete opposite.

Okay so I watched the video first off I like it I agree fairy tail is far from a perfect show it sure as hell isn’t the best Shonen out there. But I’m gonna say right now if you are looking for a show the handles all it’s mature themes and even has tragic endings this isn’t the show for you. There are many Shonen anime out there that do it well but fairy tail isn’t one of them especially in the final arc 💀
Fairy tail is a very lighthearted shonen but when the emotional moments happen they hit hard because we actually are invested in a lot of the characters.

Season 1 of Fairy Tail is probably the most mid Fairy Tail has ever been. It also sets up the wrong expectations. You mentioned that "unless the character is a hero, they dont get much character development".While that is true of the first season of Fairy Tail, I can think of multiple villains later on in the series that actually do get character development. Also a lot of them get their own unique and interesting backstory.
Also, Lucy Heartfilia supremacy is so based.

Not only are you putting the cart before the horse on Gajeel's character, you didn't even know that Phantom was supposed to be a dark guild?? It's stated yhat they're part of the Baram Alliance, a group of dark guilds that become more prevelant in later story arcs. I think you should probably watch the anime or at least read the manga before you make comments on world building or character development. 😂

Fairy Tail is a good anime, but the villains is the weakest part of it. All the villains who won't be a good character later are garbage and because of that this season is the one of the best part of the series, later only Edolas and Grand Magic Games are good. Even if I like Fairy Tail and Wendy is my 3rd favourite anime character, I had admit all other arcs are bad and hard to watch, even the last arc is garbage. So it's not a bad series the quality is very inconsistent.
