  • This week, we’re staying with our narrative arc of “hybrid work” but segueing a little into the topic of information security, and what that really means for the hybrid worker today and in the future.
Before the pandemic, most white-collar workers spent their time in offices where their employers managed information security on their behalf. You probably never realized how much was going on behind the scenes, to make sure confidential material you created or had access to didn’t leave your organization. You probably had many of these: VLAN, firewall, enterprise-grade routers and switches, internal network storage, and company-wide app policy (e.g. “everyone uses Slack for IM”).
Then the pandemic hit, and your spare bedroom or garage became your new daily office. This is not a great environment for work, for many reasons: noise, distraction, ergonomics issues (covered last week) + lighting issues.
What many people didn’t think about at the time is now you’re your own CIO and CSO and head of IT. Why? Because all the IT infrastructure that used to be managed by your company is now in your home, and probably wasn’t designed for office work (or sensitive business communications and data).
    Let's discuss, shall we?
