Great interview. It's so hard to explain how the country came to a stop during game 8. I was going to Concordia and classes were canceled. The celebration after the game was unbelievable. The names of Henderson, Clarke and Ellis were etched into our minds forever.

Sick interview Tony! Nice to see Mr. Savard, my god the players we had in Montreal in the 70's, I am too young to remember seeing them live, I was 2 in '76 and obviously missed the '72 series :) BUT I sure remember seeing the highlights throughout the years! CZcams has given us some classic games as well, nice to see Guy ( my favorite player too ), Serge, Ken Dryden and all the other Hall of Famers play in those famous games.

Tony, I was a teen then, but I remember... it cannot be put in words... I remember after the 8th game we won and my friend’s father said, watching the game in a tavern, after the goal, he saw people breaking chairs... there was so mutch emotion... nothing never comparared after that... maybe once I was in Germany at 18 when they won the Word Football against Holland... the cround jumping around it was almost scary...

a sick time in my life as well. i was absolutely sick when canada lost the first game and even sicker when they left for russia. they showed courage and what i call canadian courage to finally emerge the winner. they did it in the most adverse conditions and came home winners. we are a small country but with a big heart.

Simply SICK!!! What more can I say but I will. Watched the series the summer I got married and luckily I did not get divorced but it was close. My wife soon realized what she got herself into. A tremendous interview with Serge, a great defenseman and, more importantly, a great human being. Loved his candid comments about the series and you and his comments on Guy. I love these interviews and I am a loyal fan. Now, if you could somehow get an interview with 2 of my favourite Habs, I would be over the roof. I am referring to Steve Shutt, a real sniper, and Lyle Odelein, who made it to NHL through a lot of hard work when faced with long odds to make it out of training camp. I know Lyle had a number of medical concerns after he retired but he was a real scrapper.

If Tretiak is in the Hockey Hall Of Fame, Paul Henderson needs to be there too, because it's not called the NHL hall of fame. His play in the Summit Series should automatically make him a hall of famer

Sick podcast. Serge can be a real gentleman. He never, ever mentioned that he did not play all 8 games. He never mentioned that he won every game he played. That Canadian team had lowsy defense, Pat Stapleton 32, Gary Bergman 33, Bill White 33 (all 3 were as slow as mollasses) ............. If Bobby Orr played, with 2 good knees, Canada would have won 7 games. ..... On the European ice [205 feet x 100 feet] he would be unstoppable. The reason Bobby was always getting hurt was because Boston Garden was [191 feet x 83 feet] the smallest NHL rink .... the opponents would smash into him at the boards. ........ STD NHL was [ 200 feet x 85 feet]

It’s nationally recognized that Clarke’s two handed slash on Kharlamov was obscene. Clarke has admitted this. That is Bobby Clarke. The backstory is all the intrusions on Team Canada by The former USSR. 3am phone calls, food and beer stolen. KGB watching. Intimidation. Sounds very much like Russia today. I have no problem with Clarke. He was on that team for a reason and don’t forget he was young. I’m not a Philly fan at all. Clarke was part of the glue that helped his team.

It's unfortunate dans Marcel Dionne did not really play on this team, even though he was selected in the beginning. Same thing with Gilbert Perrault and Richard Martin. Three big names here.
ps: i believe every time Mr. Savard was on the line-up Team Canada did not lose those games.

  • @garysimard5674

As these great players get older, their memories get confused a bit. Dryden in 76 was injured and couldn't play. Dryden quit on the Canadiens in 73 when he wanted to get paid more even though he signed his contract a couple of years earlier.

His first 2 drafts were awesome. What happened after? Is it true that Tretziak didn't know he was drafted? Does Team Canada win if Clarke doesn't break Kharlamov's ankle? Lafleur never refused an autograph but Clarke refused and was really rude to us kids in August 87 on the corner of Atwater and de Maisonneuve. Same with Ron Francis. The Soviets preferred a summer series because they trained year round and Canada didn't. Thanks for the 2 cups Serge.
