I thought the same basically, however drill from both ends for one long continuous hole then to keep the melting crayon in the hole not the wood stand on end fill with glue for just a second then drain it out let it soak in and dry to seal the wood to then fill with crayon that melts to low heat.

I found it was better to drill a 1/4 inch deep hole, insert the crayon, then slice it off... To avoid breaking that very small piece of crayon plug.
Why waste all that crayon just for the look on the bottom? 😁 ... Good excuse for an update video for more views 😎😎.

A few years ago I made some 20+ pencils for my daughter's friends for a party. I used finger wide sticks from a bush I trimmed and 2mm lead refills. Each pencil was drilled with a 2mm bit and pushed a 4cm long lead piece into each (none on back). As the bush had fairly straight limbs, most pencils were pretty straight with some having a very subtle anatomical curve for interest. The bark was already quite smooth so left it untouched for a touch of texture.
Each pencil was surprisingly quick and took only a couple of minutes from beginning to end. Was fun and the kids (and parents) loved it.

Making videos is hard. It's a lot of work not even related to the content of the video. I make timelapse videos on my channel (paintings) and the video editing process is 10x as much stress as the filming. I think a lot of folks who have access to tools and such that would actually make this crayon might not have the additional expertise / time to do the video editing/production. It's a pain!

by the time you made those, I drove and bought timber crayons, 2 stroke pre-mix, filled my jerrycan, drove back to my property, filled my saw with fuel, sharpened the chain and then fell 2 cedar trees. Now i'm enjoying a beer watching you finish the branch crayons.
Still neat though and I do enjoy your channel. A bit nerdy, but cool

These old style auger bits have a screw tip. It does well to pull the bit into the wood when drilling cross-grain. The screw doesn't hold very sell into end grain and you have to apply more muscle/pressure on the end-grain wood when drilling.

That old bit definitely didn't have a tighter tolerance. It was more worn out so the hole was smaller lol. That means it's probably super old. All it was cutting was wood probably. Also I'm sure crayons aren't to super exact specs

The branch crayons will make a happy grandson. I may do a thrubore on the branch, tape over one end then melt about an inch of each color into the open end and give it a color change as it is resharpened. Bore diameter will not be critcal.

Hey I have started to do some woodworking and I have tried to restore some old tools to little avail but I have found huge amounts of joy in the learning and the journey I have taken with the tool aswell as what I have made. The biggest thing is I have an pretty big anniversary coming up for me Ann's my girlfriend and I would like to make her something instead of just spending more money on a stupid gift she won't use. I have done similar things before and loved it. I also want to use the kit to educate others on how to do woodworking because I use my Snapchat to make skit style videos on my MICROGREENS and other plant which has gotten lots of my friends interested in gardening and I would like to make videos during it so it would be a great host to that idea my set especially now during my biggest exam season to be gifted such a wonderful box and tools. Thank you for the service you have provided for the videos and knowledge you have given me even without the tools you have inspired me. So Thanks.
