Get a pair of cut resistant pants and they will last a very long time. The pair I bought, I can literally take a new box cutter blade and slash the pants and nothing. And because they are made out of synthetic fibers (maybe have some fiberglass fibers too?), they dry fast. I will say, they are not the best for winter though, because they are pretty breathable and the material is pretty thermally conductive. You can feel the heat pass right through them.
But, you can wash them, and don't have to wax them.

I am a biologist and have been working in the forest industry in northern BC for a few years. Several years ago I found a pair of Redhead Bone-Dry pants from the ~70s that look nearly identical to these. I waxed them with beeswax and oiled them lightly and wear them in the winter over merino leggings. I work 10-12 hour days, often in knee-deep snow, and down to -30C. If it's any colder usually we find other things that need to get done...
    They are incredible.
I stay warm and they are relatively waterproof, especially when they are just required to shrug off snow. They maintain mobility, while snowpants (or similar) are awful to walk long distances in. Construction workers laugh at me, but foresters are always interested. They tend to wear the old school army surplus wool pants. Personally, I don't like how those clump snow at the hem, but hats off to functional and traditional clothing.
If you are in the outdoors often and need a hard-wearing pant year-round, but especially in the winter, go find a pair of rugged pants with a tightly-woven cotton canvas (this allows it to hold the wax/oil effectively). You won't regret it!

I love my pair of double tins with the suspenders. Worth every penny. Thanks Cody for reviewing these years ago in an older video. A couple years back, I called Filson and ordered a dog coat. The salesman asked what kind of dog it was for and seemed like he cared. The coat came right away as always and was a good fit. Six months later, we got a Filson card in the mail from that same salesman asking if our German Shepard puppy grew in to the coat ok and hoped all was well! What other company would do that! Anyway folks, I would have liked to get down to Boston from Maine this week to hang out at the meet and greet but have work engagements. Have safe travels and hope you make it out this way again. Since he only has 2 pairs, I guess they either first make small tweaks and give him a version with the latest pair's wear taken into account, or a version with last year's pair's wear taken into account.

They have a department (of 1 employee when we were there) who’s sole purpose was repurposing old worn out items and giving them a 2nd life either for the existing owner, or for resale, brilliant. It was pretty cool to see what this young guy had created. I can’t believe how worn you get yours in a year, but rest assured I’m sure some part of your pants live on :)

I also live in the NW and they do the job for just about everything. I personally have no issue wearing them in the summer, but that might just be me. These pants are bulletproof and i would recommend them to anyone who does any work outside and need a pair of pants that keep up. I have done landscaping, pressure washing, hunting, rough framing work, you name it I have done it in these pants and they stand the test. After all, they don't need to pay him to test those pants in real-life conditions, so even if they have to wait a year for a pair to be worn-out, they do get the pairs back for analyzing. And, who knows, maybe they sent him a different product than the one he initially bought, part of the same family/style of products. He said he explained some things to them, so they might know he's a logger and what his requirements are (like without the folded-over part on the bottom), so they might have changed the product slightly, to improve the parts which were lacking.

The hole at the bottom of the double-front of the pant also allows you to install knee pads that stay in there, even through wash & dry. I added these knee pads to all of my Carhartt work pants and it makes a huge comfort/safety difference. Always ready & way better than traditional knee pads that have straps that dig into the back of your legs. Roll up knee pads tight & wrap 4-5 times around with a shoelace to keep tightly rolled, DO NOT TIE. Insert knee pad, then wiggle shoelace from around knee pad and your set, you'll never want to live without them!

Try out Iron heart jeans. YOU WILL NEVER GO BACK. You do not miss the price very much between iron heart and filson. It is originally a company from England. However, they have a American store in the North east called "self edge" the filson pants you wear are 15 oz fabric. The standard of iron heart is 21 oz. I have a pair that is made to get stronger the longer you wear them. My pair started out as 21 oz jeans, I have worn them for two years and they are now 23 oz jeans. NO holes or signs of wear, short of discoloration. They also do custom sizing for your person. It is like buying custom boots like nicks just in jean form.

local saw shops carry these products and alot of times can sell for cheaper than filson directly. I paid 174.99 at madsens saw shop in Centralia wa. and my co worker recently bought a pair at harbor saw in grays harbor for the same price. if the wax is not in the pocket call the seller out all pants and jackets come from the factory with wax in the pocket. if you take care of them and only wear them on rainy days they can last for years. I climb 🌲's for a living and tin pants are my year round rain gear in the pnw. most saw shops sell tear mender as well. it works great for tears and you can even use it on the bottom cuffs after you cut them to desired length and it will keep them from being all stringy and getting shorter.... but allow them to tear if you need them to tear because of a branch or a stub out in the brush. I put my pants to the test every rainy day and they last and last. good video love the channel.

"Pro tip"--to stop a hole or tear from growing in Levies and similar canvas cloth or even cotton shirt, try working in a little silicone sealer around edges, preferably clear type on the inside so it doesn't show. It only takes a few dabs. This will prevent fraying in successive washes, etc., and even patch some abraded areas or you can use a scrap of denim to patch hole or cut by gluing piece on inside. It will last as long as the garment and retain flexibility. (the bottom of his frayed britches reminded me)

I love Tin pants. Back in 2008 I bought a pair of Cabelas Tin "waterproof Hunting Pants" for bird hunting. They are almost identical to these yours, however the double knee starts mid thigh and goes to the bottom of the boot leg as the reinforced area is to act more as a chap. The bottoms are hemmed in leather. I would used them hard through Oct and Nov hunting and then ice fishing from late Dec - March. An auger blade did catch them once so they have a few gashes and a little wear in the crotch. They got set aside for a year and I found them COVERED in mildew. Lucky for me, soaking in white vinegar for 45 min, a heavy hot wash cycle with bleach and they were almost as good as new. Didnt have any pants wax, but paraffin canning wax ... heating and brushing on and going over with a hair drier made them just like new. Cabelas also has a "lifetime" or had... guarantee on their brand clothing but they no longer make them from what I can see in my store. :(
