- Are you looking for the perfect gift telescope for that budding space nerd in your life?
The Starsense Explorer line of telescopes from Celestron makes a great option that balances price and features, and the Starsense smartphone really impressed me.

Space nerd's wife here: space isn't always my thing, but I really enjoy this scope to observe "mainstream beauty" like Saturn or the moon, while my husband is looking at M5 or something equally nerdy. I enjoy this scope because I enjoy being with my husband.
That’s awesome. 💕💕
You should see them through actually good quality telescope capable to proper Lunar/planetary magnifications.
And Jupiter has also transits of its "Galilean" moons (guess who found them) with shadow visible on Jupiter's surface.
Hey dude hope you’re doing alright! Miss your content
This is why I recommend Dobs (of any size) for newbies. Cheap tripods are flimsy and wobbly, which really inhibits the enjoyment.
That smartphone integration is pretty cool. And the caveats don't sound that big. Nice post.
Thanks! Yes, I was impressed
Its been awhile since you posted. Hope all is well.
Have the starsense explorer DX 5 SCT now for a week an i love it for my backpack🤩 i find now fast things haha🎉 greets 🇳🇱
Thank you for the knowledge you shared about this telescope. I have been looking at this along with the Celestron model DX130AZ. For the more than $200.00 difference in price will I be getting a significant improvement of the night sky images? Also, do you know if the lens quality is better with the DX130AZ?
Thank you again
Imagine my surprise when I found out the Celestron company is a block away from where I live!
Opinion and advice needed
I have the evostar 72ed, and it performs well.
I am selling it and thinking it to upgrade to a 6-inch f6 newtonian, and I will be using it with a dslr and a cooled camera at times for galaxies and small
Nebulae.
The ioptron cem 25p will carry it.
Should I upgrade it ??
Or any other recommendations
I can’t find your first video, can you link it in the comments
uhh, how does this compare with the lt 5 az?
I owned 127AZ the apps is not what i think it is...when the red bull eye turns green and looked through the eyepiece the target is about a half foot away..can't fixed it...any suggestions??
does it have an errect image?
Can you see saturns rings with it?
A Bird-Jones telescope isn't a great suggestion for astronomy. A Newtonian should have a parabolic mirror to obtain the best images.
❤❤OSM❤
No kidding, I just bought one as a gift for my 15 yr old. Budget won't let me go beyond the $300 Canadian just spent, but questioning if I should have gone for the 80LT in the same line at the same price? What are the differences between refractor and reflector I guess?
Reflector you can get bigger aperture (more light capture) for cheaper because mirrors are easier to make. Refractor you spend a lot more for the same aperture (or in this case less) but the image quality will be higher.
@@WindyCityAstrophotography Thank you! We'll see how this goes. I can see selling and upgrading in the future, but I think the starsense phone integration should be a huge hit :)! (A telescope was her big ask for Christmas, so she has huge interest already which is great)
Hello I'm looking for your help..I have same telescope but the image is upside down can you please help me how to fixed this problems. Thank you
This is perfectly normal for an astronomical telescope. Some telescopes have correct image viewing.
You see planets upside down thats why you see it
Same as the sky view apps
The app is great, but this telescope is a hobby killer.. the 114lt is tge worst in the line. piss poor optics, terrible mount.. the 80mm is probably a bit better optically.. the only reason to buy the LTs is if you are going to remove the dock and put it on a more capable scope.
Celestron has expanded the line considerably.. with a tabletop dob from 114mm to 150mm, to full-sized dobs up to 12"...
Absolutely skip the LTs and go for the better models. The 4" achromats are frequently found used on places like B&H, Highpoint, etc where it's only maybe 50$ more...
If the LTs are your first scope, and it's all you can afford, save more money.. or skip the star senses all together and get a skywatcher Heritage 130 or 150, a capable, excellent scope. for the same price point of the LTs

May i ask what phone you were using?
