1:48 Can anyone explain why this helicopter doesn't need a tail rotor? Is it because of the big "rudder" or the "string" attached? I am aware of other alternatives like NOTAR or Coaxial or Tandem rotors, but this is first time I am seeing something like this
There is no rotational torque to counteract because there is no onboard engine. That machine at 1:48 is an auto-gyro rotor kite. They are towed forward (by ground/sea vehicles) and their rotor spins using auto-gyration providing glider-like lift. The Germans towed them behind U-boats during WWII. Pretty cool actually.

Very happy to help. Your question was a good one. By the way: rotor kites/gyro-kites have also been referred to as gyro-gliders. On really windy days they can even fly without being towed as long as they have an anchor line. Search gyro-glider on CZcams and you can see some modern videos of them in use.

Microlights (kit or plan-built) are there for the determined enthusiast. I understand that in the US there are not that many restrictions on Microlight/'experimental' aircraft. Still an expensive pastime/obsession, but the home-made planes in the vid will have taken a high proportion of the builders incomes and thousands of hours ....
