Alessandra won Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix competition with ‘Queen of Kings’ and will represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool on 9, 11 & 13 May. This performance is from Melodi Grand Prix 2023, courtesy of NRK.
Alessandra Mele is a Norwegian-Italian artist and songwriter. The 20-year-old has lived most of her life in Italy, but decided to move to Norway two years ago after finishing high school as she wanted to get closer to her Norwegian family and to develop her interest in music.
From a very young age she began to sing, dance and cook with her mother to the sound of Frank Sinatra. She took part in her first singing competition when she was 6 years old and won it all with the ABBA classic Dancing Queen. She loves being on stage and feels that this is the place where she can be herself.
The song Queen of Kings is about daring to be yourself and coming out stronger after difficult times in life.

If she did this EXACT performance in the grand final she would have been higher than she got, if even by one or two places. I feel like the costume actually restricted her neck in the semi's and the final, as her performance looked a considerable amount more stiff, though it could just be that she was exhausted from all the rehearsals and touring. But this performance here is AMAZING! Vocals perfect, choreo perfect, whistle note PERFECT!

Foul play by nature. That made me sad. To think there was potential that her grand final performance might have been even better than this, if not for a damn sickness. Please don't change your stage performance! What has often been noticed in recent years of ESC is that participants had a great performance in the qualifying round, but when they got to the finals they changed the outfits and the choreo and ended up little further back. If you perform like that in the finals, Norway has a good chance of winning the thing. 100%

The first time I heard this song it was a brief audio clip laid over a video of Miss Ukraine walking out during the “costume” portion of Miss Universe…. I miss Norway so much. This made he legit tear up. This song is perfect for such an amazing and majestic country/people. I'm only the second generation of my family that was born and raised in the US. My grandparents on both sides immigrated here through Ellis island and had my parents. Luckily I have been fortunate to spend probably around 6 years in Norway with all my visits added up. And PLENTY more to come. I take so much pride in my Scandinavian heritage and to see such amazing talent representing it on a world stage is such an overwhelmingly powerful feeling. Thank you so much for truly touching my heart. I will show this to my children and grandchildren when I teach them about our family roots and history. She was great in the ESC Grand Final, but it's a shame she didn't reach the same levels displayed here both vocally and stage presence. I think her outfit in the GF hindered her too much.
