What's cool about Conan is that he took two simple statements; "I'm in a stable relationship" and "I don't get in fights" and turned them into a funny 3-minute rant on the spot. He is naturally funny and quick-witted.
It was actually amazing how he just sailed into that and kept it rolling not only with improv dialog but a jingle too 😂😂
The best
And that brilliant, hilarious concept will probably just disappear into the ether now. Such a shame.
@@terri6854 no, it’s captured here on CZcams probably forever
I can turn that into a 20 minute rant, it comes naturally to someone people with brain that have some adhd components, only I am not funny
One of the coolest things about Conan is honestly how earnestly he's embraced changes in technology. He leaned into social media, podcasting, long-form interview, etc. when other hosts fought it for years and that's why he's the damn king.
He knows when to be humble and follow the lead of someone that knows the tech more than them, he knows Gourley knows his stuff and is well-read enough and has a great wife to know longevity comes from embracing tech by being around the younger folks!
He learned from Lettermans mistake.
The coolest memory I have of Conan is a video I saw on his website. It was called _"Conan Scraps: Conan sings/plays Radiohead's Creep during rehearsal"_ or something like that.
He's sitting behind his desk on set with his guitar while the crew's setting stuff up and he just starts singing Creep incredibly well.
The best part was that the crew eventually joined in too.
I saw that video once ~eight years ago, but it's burned into my brain because of how cool I thought that moment was.
Soon after it was posted, the video was deleted. Probably due to copyright or something. I haven't been able to find it anywhere since.
There's an alternate rehearsal where he sings it with a baby head morphed onto his body, but it's not the same.
I know Conan may see it differently, but him getting fired from The Tonight Show was a blessing. We would not have classics like Conan remotes etc.
@@Qira. I found this one of him playing it while people are trying to play it on guitar hero czcams.com/video/lMYtyeIhydU/video.html
Anyone else absolutely love when it is just the three of them?
✋
Yea it’s like clueless gamer yea it’s kinda fun with celebrities but really we j want Conan and the crew
There are a few guests with whom Conan’s chemistry is just unmatched
They don't need guests :)
Yes and when he random reference goes of the rails
Sona sounded like a student desperately trying to make the required word count when identifying something cool about Conan.
That's what her book reads like.
She sounds like a Russian spy
as she called it "the assignment"!! 😂
@@peaceout1010 there was one podcast that she kept saying words like anatonitally and asparatus lol
@@evandercaldwell9993 I think she was referencing a viral phrase that the young ‘uns have been using on TikTok and such: “understood the assignment.” It’s from a rap song called The Assignment, by Tay Money. You can look it up here on CZcams.
"his wife made vegetables, he's so appreciative" 🤣
its somehow even funnier when in written format
4:55
"it's a gateway drug..."
"--You dork."
"...to fun!"
I always enjoy it when Sona and Matt gang up on Conan.
The real proof of Conan's coolness is how unbelievably hard he makes Sona laugh
One of the most unexpected comedic trios to come about. But they're a gosh darn riot.
By the way, how exactly did they come about? Sona is/was Conan's assistant, is that correct? But I have no idea who the guy is and how he landed this bit.
@@wraith_youtube Matt was already a successful podcast producer and they hired him to produce the show. I dont think there was ever any intention that he become *part* of the show, but Conan drug him into it.
You're right... by jove.
But let's be honest - she's not part of the comedy though. She just functions as the audience/laugh track/and the straight one who ridicules the genius comedian so he has something to work off. Any member of the public could do that.
@@terri6854 - But let's be honest - she is part of the comedy.
I think it’s cool how Conan is so intelligent that he doesn’t feel the need to prove it, but it’s still obvious from his wit and manner of speech.
I agree!!!!
Sona's laughter is so contagious 🤣
No. Too over-acted and monotonous.
I agree so much, her laughing so hard she's crying and it keeps ramping up 😂
@@terri6854you are overacted and monotonous.
@@terri6854 You're just a little ray of sunshine, aren't ya?
@@terri6854that is a hot take, lol.
The most hilarious line in the Conan O'Brien Is Cool theme song is "If you're in his house in his bedroom you might run into him!!!"
Laughed too hard
To be fair, Conan has cool qualities, even if they get played of here in a funny way:
- inspires others to be great comedians
- has lovely and healthy relationship with his wife
- doesn't get into fights
- is eloquent
- is incredibly loyal to his employees
These are qualities we can strive for which actually make the world a better place.
This is what i should lookout for in a guy... God pls give me a "Conan" 😂😂
Also, I love how he doesn’t really roast many people. He is more self-deprecating than anything.
Yeah when NBC decided "we're gonna give Jay what he wants" Conan used the contract-breaking money to give much of it to his staff who were also going to be out of work.
@@kathleenrasing6818 Look for that tall awkward guy you never pay attention to because he's not the fantasy man of your dreams.
Cool thing about Conan, as a relative "newcomer" he successfully took up the mantle of Late Night talk show host and went to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL!!! He will go down in history as one of the greatest to ever do it!!! I believe Carson smiles on him and Letterman has had his back since DAY 1!!! 🤗😍⭐
And he did that despite being hated by viewers for replacing a legend like Letterman at first. He managed to push through it and invented a new type of late night absurd comedy no one did before him. The fact that he survived the first few years of his late night is pretty astounding when you look at the historical context
Although Conan himself has often painted Late Night as a barren landscape, the truth is there were several competing shows around at the time. The most famous was probably The Arsenio Hall Show which despite being looked at today as "short-lived" was already in its 4th season when Conan's incarnation of Late Night first aired and stayed afloat for 2 more seasons. Arsenio's show was, unlike Conan, a huge instant hit and was something of a cultural touchstone in the late 80s, early 90s with several popular catchphrases and a really iconic and dynamic intro. And of course Arsenio had a huge movie hit on his hands with Coming To America. Add to that landscape shows from Chevy Chase and Jon Stewart. It was really steep competition for audiences across limited channels... and at the time the late night slot was also often filled with networks showing old movies (like they also used to fill the Sunday afternoon slots). The fact that Conan survived all of that in a time slot when MOST Americans either just gave up and went to bed, or got drunk, is truly nothing short of amazing.
I have a pic of Conan and Carson together
@@preesi1403 so does Conan
Conan is easily the best late night talk show host ever. He has zero negatives and all the positives of the other hosts.
Conan's seemingly photographic memory of classic TV never ceases to amaze me! It kinda gives me hope that things older than 5 years can and will be remembered and appreciated by people. Conan really IS a cool guy!
I’ve been watching Conan since I was 13 years old. Now that I’m 38, I find myself depressed by the current state of things and longing for my 13 year old life again. This is a tremendous help. 🥰🖤 Thank you for continuing to bring so much joy and laughter and sharing yourself with us throughout the years, Conan. You are a national treasure. Also, I love you, Sona!
Damn you need to find a new path in life if 13 was better than 38 lol . Just saying.
Oh, Conan is an international treasure! Get well soon
@@darrellwilliams1714 I think there are a lot of people who had a more carefree life in their teens, I certainly did. I had a very tight group of friends in high school, and they were the most enjoyable years of my life, for sure. I'm 35 now, not far off from 38. A lot of my friends from high school agreed that when we were together in high school was the best time. It was like lightning in a bottle.
Things are getting better. Thank you, President Biden. #VoteBlueToSaveAmerica
High school was the best time of your life? You were in that category that's the antithesis of Conan/other comedians and many of us for who it was not a wonderful experience.
Conan making Sona laugh hysterically for 1 minute straight made my day! 9:20
Conan's cool because of his quick wit and banter. not to mention his self-deprecating sense of humor. And he is one of the best to do late-night.
If i had to choose someone as a true inspiration for me it's him. He's way up there for me: Funny, intelligent, goodhearted, sensible... I am so very thankful for who everything he does in the media world, his comedy and what's beneath!
❤
you're right, Gourley is a real treasure
yeah i think Conan's brain in Timothy Olyphant's body would be the perfect guy
@@zachmoyer1849 lmao if only Matt would read this to Conan
The way Sona just effortlessly answered Matt's question with the most wrong time ever was art
Sona: You know, I think you're a cool guy.
Conan: Seriously?
Sona: Ye-
Conan's cool coz "His wife made 'em vegetables, and he's so appreciative" and "He just read a book alongside his wife who was also reading a book" 🤣🤣 not a lot of men do that!!
No that's coz that's the stereotype they always show in movies/series to depict that its a boring marriage. He was quick to put forth the whole writers page re: that. The only thing he missed was seperate bedlamps.
Kathleen Rasing that was the best part 🤣🤣
No, most people don't sit beside eachother and read books lol.
Wait...what's wrong with separate bedside lamps?!
@@mermaidmoon2254 Nothing - it's quite logical actually.
Sona can't find one cool thing to say about Conan then immediately starts LMAOing when he does the bit. How did his humorous nature not come to mind?😂
Also, the fact that the people who have worked under him are always so chill around him is what I think is coolest about Conan. I feel like a lot of them are also proud to have worked with him.
If you watch his older bits from the early 2000s or 90s, you'll notice that a *lot* of them are still around. You can see Jordan Schlansky and Aaron Bleyart and some others in the background.
If Sona can get away with watching old reruns of a tv show at work, everyone on staff realized, "hey, Conan did nothing about that" where other jobs that would likely get you fired.
No one can match Conan's quick wit, improv and the charisma that comes along with being naturally funny.
Sona is basically a professional laugher. And I'm here for it.
one cool thing about conan: his guitar/drums/singing skills. the legally prohibited tour was sooooo badass
Conan’s improv skills are astounding to me
"I don't judge time very well. You know what I do have? An excellent sense of time". 😂 This guy.
For me, what makes Conan cool is that he always stays inclusive with his humor- even if he's making a joke at Sona's expense or Matt's, he's doing it in a loving way. Often we think of that "cool person" as being above it all or separate, but Conan is all about bringing people together through laughter, wit and serious conversation. He has a very deep, rich heart and a passion for entertaining folks. Also, those leather jackets are pretty dope.
Sona's laughter is one of the best things ever.
yeah ok
I'm going to agree. Her laugh is so hearty and great!
@@NocturnalPLUR We're glad you agree
8:13 is just so funny when Conan bursts off laughing at Sona's statements
Near the end of the video it becomes abundantly clear why Conan has kept Sona as his assistant even if she didn't do anything; anyone that laughs that hard at your bits, you keep around. I thought she was going to pass out...
Sona is such a low-key funny person. She's a perfect foil for Conan
I always think the coolest thing in the world is to be confident about being yourself at all times which Conan definitely is. But Sona is also that times 10...
Conan is confidently honest and that's cool.
The level of unhinged hilarity Conan can get from a simple topic is unmatched.
I think the best part about these podcasts is the fact that Conan employs Sona yet still refuses to fully employ Schlansky
every day schlansky grows more and more unhinged
She's his P.A. Jordan was the tv show producer of some kind.
Sona is such a good character
Cool is making the person who roasted you about uncoolness bust a gut laughing about the very same uncoolness
he plays the guitar at work
that's pretty cool
I dunno, everyone has to be cool with it tho. I play lots of guitar and cringe about when I was a kid and I might’ve played it when people simply don’t wanna hear it. To be fair I was a kid and didn’t think about it, I just wanted to play. It’s not even about whether they enjoy it or not, it’s sorta rude. As long as you’re not “that guy”, in summary lol
I'm listening to this in bed, and I have tears rolling into my ears from laughing so hard.
Conan is easily the best late night talk show host ever. He has zero negatives and all the positives of the other hosts.
Just want to send some love to Sona and her beautiful swoopy, curly hair.
Love how Gourley expertly lead Conan through the Fonz bit
Conan wrote for The Simpsons. He will always be badass to a generation for sure.
Sona cracking up is always gold.
i'm always wary of running into conan o brien when i'm in his bedroom in his house
Sona’s “It’s 4 o’clock” 😂😂 3:24
He’s quick with the comeback’s and just really funny. That’s cool!!
I love Conan O'Brien, he's the coolest goof ever on late night and just life and nothing makes me laugh more than Conan laughing 😂😂😂😂
These snippets are just not enough, I need more I tell ya, I NEED MORE.
who wouldn't want to work with Conan, pure laugher nonstop.
9:15 This is (apart from the Yoda impression from ages ago) is one of my favourite podcast bits. The way Conan improvises the superhero theme song is brilliant lmao.
Their silliness makes me so happy 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I think you are spontaneous and funny. I think the podcast is the best thing that ever happened to you (and Sona and Matt). Blessings.
The fact he's funny is the coolest part of Conan O'Brien. His relationship with his staff is the second coolest thing about him.
"A gateway to fun, ya Nerd!"
Might just be my new favorite Conan burn...and it's a year late? Yeah, that tracks for me!
I think the first cool thing Sona could have said is that “you share a podcast with us your employees “and that’s cool cause Conan can get anyone famous as permanent co-host but he choose the people around him instead 🇮🇳
Yeah that's a very good point : )
Hey Sona, I just finished "reading" your audiobook. I loved it. The only thing that was missing was your laugh. Your laughter MAKES this podcast. I would want to be your friend just so you can laugh at my jokes (not to say I can compare in anyway to Conan's comedic brilliance).
Those glasses look really good on Matt, they suit him well
The last bit had me gasping for air ^^
5:24 "Yeah, THAT'S what I'll do with my free time." God I love her vibe so much!
Conan's definitely cool af, and these three have great chemistry!
This podcast is a huge breath of fresh air...love conan
it is always such a delight to hear them all laugh whole heartily🤣🤣🤣🤣
"Gateway to fun!...Nerd!" Beautiful...
"Gateway to fun you nerd" High-larious!!
Sona's laugh is adorable and infectious
conan o'brien has been a huge inspiration for me for some reason. i wanna meet him if he ever comes to seattle
They're like a father, daughter, n uncle relationship.
That Goorley referenced Cato the Younger at 3:18 now ranks him above Conan and the Armenian Shoplifter in my heart.
btw Sona's wrestling name ought to be "The Armenian Shoplifter".
Hilarious!!! I’ve tears and can’t stop laughing! Thank you 😂
Sona's laughter is my medicine.
I can usually guess the time within a couple minutes too! Now I feel cool to share that "gift" with Conan, haha.
Love to see new content!!
that Cato reference from the original Pink Panthers is a deep cut, indeed. Nice one!
An ad popped up at 7:51 and having a cut there made it so much funnier
I swear Conan could film himself doing anything and I'd watch it with utmost contentment
His hair whirl is iconic. BOOM. 💥
What's cool about Conan? He can make anybody in the world laugh. That's the coolest thing ever if you ask me.
the "Conan is cool" song he made up was great.. it actually also amused me at the thought of an actual tv show that was ONLY about how cool the main character is.
Seeing Sona completely lose control when Conan begins his Improvised theme song is the best, such a dynamic and funny team. I've been a huge Conan fan since 99' and having Sona become a VIP with his show and material is probably the best thing to happen in my whole time as a fan. Here's to many more laughs
Always great to revisit this ❤
Conan is so cool he can even make being a square seem cool.
The fact that Conan came up with that song makes him cool
I think in about 20% of the time Conan is talking with Matt and Sona, he has "Resting disdain face" which makes them more animated. Oddly this seems to make the conversation & dynamics so funny! Who would think this would be a formula for comedic success? It only works bc it's clearly natural...
I feel like Conan’s bread and butter is calling people on their BS in a funny and uplifting way to them and everyone.
What I think cool about Conan is how he diffuses an upcoming or ongoing tension with self deprecating humor.
The coolest thing about Conan....is his great (comical) wit !
manifesting a CONAF 4/20 special this year 🙏
Here's one thing that's very, very cool about Conan: He's got a very high tolerance for his employees who do very foolish things at work and also for those who give him a lot of "lip" at work, as long as the employee's nonsense can get a laugh.
Conan's such a lovely guy.
Sona's initial look as he asked the question was priceless.
"it's a gateway to fun, ya nerd" Matt spittin out gems😂
Conan was so funny in this one
Anyone else just watch these on a loop all the time now? Like, I’m behind on shows from the last 6 months all together.
Bahahaha “his wife made vegetables and he was appreciative! Conan O’Briennnn”
This was the greatest intro CONAF made so far
I love when Sona laughs
never underestimate the enticing allure of a man that makes you laugh. even redheads, Conan
It just hit me that Conan is a very loyal type of friend.
he's the kind of cool guy who signs a contract and then draws a sketch of himself on it as well....i dont know why i got that stuck in my head....but.......... ;-)
