  • When recording with the Akai MPC Key 61, sometimes you need to punch in and punch out to re-record only part of the track. It's easy to setup the MPC Key 61 start and end points for the Punch In/Punch Out feature and in this video I walk you through the process!
I do wish that Akai would add a quick set feature to make setting the In and Out points easier, but for now, I'm at least glad they give the option to punch in and out!

Thanks for your videos. Could you tell me if you had any glitches or bugs using this keyboard? Also, does punch in and out work on the audio tracks also?

    Nice.
Where is the locate function on other MPCs without locate button? or is this only on the KEY61?

Punch in/out is on all MPCs. On the MPC Key 61, X, and Studio Mk2, there are hardware Locate buttons. For the Live, Live 2, and One (as well as the X and Key), you can access Locate by double tapping the time counter at the top of the screen.
In the MPC software, punch in has a button.

At least, there's such a feature that I didn't realize to find within the locate window. Thanks for the hint ;)
I found out a very strange behavior when it comes to recording arpeggios. When recording them, the sorting of notes after a chord change doesn't work like when I play the arpeggio just live. Additional editing is necessary to fix this. Could you please verify this behavior?

Another Great vid!! Got the key61. Newbie to MPC workflow. I have question regarding different bar lengths on tracks. On the Korg Nautlius or the Yamaha Montage/MODX its possible to assign different number of bars to each track. Say I’ll make a drum track with 2 bars that’s looping and then bass track with 4 bars looping and finally a lead track with 8 bars looping. But I’ve tried having different bar length on the MPC keys 61 but if I change in one track it will change on the other tracks. I know I can copy paste in grid mode but that’s not as immediate as choosing length directly on track. Is there a way to choose the amount of bars to individual tracks? Best regards

It is possible on MPC, but different, check the track length in beats.

Can you also punch in and out on waveforms from an audio source for singing?

Making the PIPO too hard and time consuming, easier to just use a foot switch.

  • @derrickwashington3766

Everybody keeps showing how to do punch in and punch out on everything else except for the software how about u show us on the software 😉 I have a Renaissance

It totally sucks, how you can’t set it to current cursor position… so clunky, what are they thinking????
