    Course description:
Have you ever thought that you’d love to sit down with a great tin whistler and just have them regale you with their wisdom, their hard-won insights and their masterful tricks that would not only help you to play better but, more importantly, ignite in you an even deeper love for the instrument? Well, you’ll be happy to hear, Lúnasa’s Kevin Crawford, has taken time out of his hectic touring schedule to do just that. In this incredible course Kevin puts down the flute, which he is most famous for, dons the ubiquitous hat (also famous for!), and takes you through 13 of his favourite session tunes in a very personal and most endearing way. So, instead of these lessons feeling like Kevin is your teacher, they’re more like having a chat with him, where, in his relaxed style, he imparts the wisdom of a life-time on the Irish music scene.
By the end of the course, apart from wondering when Lúnasa are next playing in your area, you’ll be armed with 13 really wonderful Irish session tunes to get the best out of your tin whistle while keeping the fire burning for this amazingly versatile instrument.

Also, I’m totally going to steal your line “there’s no prizes for speeding it up at this point“ when teaching just about anything

I met Kevin Crawford a couple of times while he was performing with Lunasa in Austin TX when I was a teen, probably around 2005. He was so lovely and encouraging. He even signed my flute case that my teacher had built for me, which I still keep my flute in. Such great memories. Thank you Kevin.

    How refreshing!
I've been playing tin whistle on and off for a while and keep getting stuck when it comes to ornaments and how to progress in my ability to use them.
I've been jumping between different CZcams creators, but they break songs down in really sterile parts and then at the end do their version with a bunch of ornaments thrown in without any explanation and trying to slow down videos to figure out what they're doing feels like I'm running in circles. They'll have videos on how to do ornaments but never any help in merging an ornament into a tune.
How Kevin break's this down, with the singing method and with an actual explanation of what ornaments he's putting in and where and nice and slow I feel like I've finally gotten past this massive road block in my playing and progressed more in 5 minutes than I have the past year.
I was starting to feel a bit hopeless until I found this.
    So thankyou!
Thankyou for this, definitely starting a subscription with you just for more of his gems of wisdom.

Great lesson! You do such a great job at breaking it down into actual functional pieces of the tune. So many other penny, whistle videos, break it up at really odd, non-rhythmic places I find myself having to speed up the video to do just like you said, and learn how to “sing the tune“ until I can understand how their slower parts Fit into the tune

I've been obsessively listening to Kevin's version of "the dear Irish boy" trying to mentally learn it first and day dreaming about what tips he would give as a whistle player so I'm pretty stoked to have stumbled upon this and to see he's playing a Roy McManus whistle!
I first found out about Kevin and McManus whistles from a video of him trying one at a stall in what looks like a shopping centre and how beautifully he played it made me both enchanted with him and had me purchase one myself.
Amazing whistle player and so excited to find a gem of a video with small bits of wisdom.

How are you liking the whistle? I'm looking to upgrade from the terrible souvenir toy whistle I already have, lol. I mean, in a way I love my worst of the worst whistles because it is how I ended up here, but would love to try a quality whistle now. 😉

@@cathytai I love it, I've got it and a Lír as my two good quality ones and both have different beautiful tones in their own ways.
      But it's definitely my favourite

Earwormy tunes? I LOVE that someone else gets Irish music earworms! One reason I began studying Irish music is that the only way I can get rid of one is to learn to play it. For years I woke up every October 10 with Bonnie Bunch of Roses, Tam Lin, and one new tune stuck in my head. Hasn't happened since my second year of OAIM's Challenge, because I was preoccupied with what we were working on then.
