    It's rare to find someone who owns a Quattroporte from the Ferrari/Maserati golden era, and it's even rarer to find someone who prefers the F1 over the ZF. I happen to agree as well that the F1 gearbox makes the car a true sport GT. The ZF models may be more practical, but that also makes them equally less exciting to drive. Especially in an age where a V8 engine in a daily driver makes increasingly less sense, you might as well pick the car that's most exciting to drive during the 1-2 times a week you drive it! The drive-by-wire module is said to help, but only to a degree. At the end of the day, the clutch will still need to be treated properly or it will burn prematurely.

      I have a 2015 Gran Turismo with the ZF, Maserati went to hell once the V8 Gran Turismo and V8 QP was discontinued.

    Thank you! I’ll be purchasing mine this weekend. This is the best and most comforting advice on these cars’ FI system.

    Definitely is a great car, but I wouldn't recommend it for most people. These aren't unreliable, but they do cost Ferrari money to maintain. There's a good reason for the low price tag. If anyone is considering buying one, they should definitely do their research. I don't own one, but I know a handful of owners of these; one of them just put in a new clutch, which was $5,000 and change. Consumables are also expensive, and the annual service is $2k if done by a specialist (about $600 DIY).

      Well the whole problem with the F1 transmission (clutch) in these cars was the slow speed of the electronics to switch the gears. The point I was trying to make is that the thing most people complain about with this car was having to replace the clutch prematurely. Formula Dynamics drive by wire makes the F1 shift the way it should. I'm around 45000km and no problems with my clutch yet. If I hit 65000km without a clutch change I'll be happy. With the amount I drive it though that will take another 7 to 10 years.

    why pimping the car with oversized wheels and the italian flag on the fuel filler cap .man,the car looks better in standard conditions.

      That's the way I got it when I imported it from Tokyo Japan. I have since removed the Italian stickers and it did make the car look classier. As far as the Vossen 22 inch rims I find them much more attractive then stock rims and tires. I don't believe the overall size of the tires IE width and diameter are any different and ride quality is unaffected. I priced out new rims and tires when I got it and it was a lot cheaper just to throw a new set of tires on the 22

      I am considering using it as my daily next summer. Like I told the guys at work one day when I drove it this past summer. Driving that car is like you have been wearing wool boxers your entire life and today you were given a pair of silk boxers. Also I am one of those guys who ends up with a driveway and a garage and maybe a back yard full of cars so some days I switch cars 4 times just for fun. Maserati I would drive to work and back because of secure parking lots but I would never take it shopping and if I do I'm staying with the car while someone else shops. Some of my neighbours find it amusing how I some times spend 20 minutes moving cars around so I can drive the one I want.@@SAVAGE8

    The fact that a "fix" exists boils down to bad engineering. But at least there's a solution.

    Hi thanks for your video how many miles are you getting between clutch changes with this up grade and do you drive in auto mode much.

    • @carfunwithjerrytgreat5143
      @carfunwithjerrytgreat5143  Před 9 měsíci +1

      I drive it like a family limo. I'm at 45000 KM's on the original clutch. I had it checked out before I bought it from Japan (B-Pro was my broker) They confirmed clutch/transmission was good and at 42000 km's I had a Maserati specialist go through the whole car and fix everything that was not correct after 15 years in Tokyo. And true you do need to spend Ferrari money to maintain these cars but since I just drive in for fun or special occasions my annual expenses aren't excessive. So my bill to fix every tiny mechanical flaw was $8500.00 but I am still well below it's appraised value in cost. In regards to how I drive it when I first got it I drove it a lot in full auto mode but after I got used to the paddle shifter I almost always drive in sport mode manual shift. If I was going to daily drive it I could have just done an oil change(600 DIY) and changed the brake pedal sensor ( $24.00 ). It was in too nice of shape though to turn it into a drive into the ground car so It's part of my collection for the meantime.

    Isn't the Duo select fundamentally the F1 gearbox from Ferrari road cars of the same period?
    Nobody seems to give them the same negative feedback that the QP gets.

    • @tomale1964
      @tomale1964 Před rokem +2

      You are correct. I really think the issue comes down to the speed of the shift. Maserati took a supercar transmission and attempted to make it drive like a limousine. The drive by wire and the throttle response chip correct that on the QP. I use sport mode manual (paddle shift) most of the time but if I am feeling lazy or possibly in a complicated parking situation I have no problems using the automatic shifting. I do prefer the manual mode though.

    • @robertr7084
      @robertr7084 Před rokem +2

      Yes this is good point, I think it comes to the fact that the price of the car is a lot lower used and when people have to maintain it you have to pay for what is basically a Ferrari part and that comes with some sticker shock in some cases.

    • @carfunwithjerrytgreat5143
      @carfunwithjerrytgreat5143  Před 9 měsíci

      It really helps if you can find a non dealer specialist. They usually have a few sources for parts and although still expensive it's a lot less then a dealer would charge.@@robertr7084

    Which fix ?

  • @wrkey
    @wrkey Před rokem +1

    I have the Executive GT version of this car. I would have preferred if you stated up front that the fix to the Transmission was the shift controller. You video, while decently shot and having good information, was difficult to sit through due to the fact it appeared you were reading the text. The mono-tone delivery is terrible. You can do much better by simply saying what you want to convey in a smooth conversational method. Talk to your audience, don't read to them. Just an FYI, there are several companies out there that make / made this type of controller add on.
