Kobe, with his untimely demise propelling him up the all time greats list, is vastly overrated. He was a ball hog and stat padder who had a prime shaq carrying the load his first 3 rings. Yes he matured into a much better rounded player/leader later on but he was never definitively superior to his contemporaries. Call it bad luck but he just happened to play coinciding with other players best years. Shaq, LeBum, Nash, etc all had more team impact when they won the award.

Wrong... and here's why... the people voting on mvp take a lot more into account like how much your player effects the game and the players around him.. so one way to measure that is the Bpm stat. And if you ain't know what that means here it is. Mind you they're all complaining about luka now when they was just complaining about SGA... and I'll tell you that SGA finished 2nd in this stat, but the difference between joker and sga was almost 10 points... joker was worth 19 and sga finished second with 11... and that was 1 and 2... now here's your definition........ BPM stands for box plus-minus, which is a basketball statistic that estimates a player's impact on the game relative to the league average. It uses advanced box score data, such as rebound percentage and true shooting percentage, to calculate the points differential (positive or negative) over 100 possessions. They have other athletic slashers and corner shooters to handle the off ball stuff when Kyrie has the ball. Luka does occasionally seize the moment and make off ball cuts, just not too often because again, not his role. Watch some Mavs games.

The humble Luka died and the beast has came out. He's balling out and talking his ish I love it. Him and kyrie are coming to play and give it there all. They had the hardest path to the finals. And there story os better imo. A finals win gets redemption for kyrie and recognition for Luka being that guy. Plus I always like rooting for the underdog. So I feel the Mavs are going to win the finals. Pj, Gafford, and the other Mavs have stepped up as well. Shadys point is right here - Luka has been All NBA 1st Team 5 times in a row by age 25. That's more impressive than the MVP award because it becomes heavily compromised. All NBAs don't get compromised as easily because there are 3 teams so the actual best players get their spot.

You guys gotta break it down you didn’t break down that Luca has the ball all the time he scores more points than the joker has rebounds assist, but he controls the game as a true point guard. Also, he’s mess up with a lot smaller people. It’s a bigger person they’re not able to stay with him because he’s too crafty.

I get why Jokic got the MVP (Finals MVP gives an air of inevitability, plus he was arguably snubbed last year) Luka should have been MVP this year. The word "valuable" should reflect who carried the biggest weight. Jokic and Shai had better and healthier teams that contributed to their higher win totals. Luka was without Kyrie 1/4th of the season, and pretty much the entire rotation was injured at various points throughout the season. Only 4 other players on the Mavs played > 60 games: Jones, Hardaway (6th man), Hardy (end of rotation til playoffs) and Powell (end of rotation). By the time the rotation got healthy (which coincided with the trades) the Mavs were the best team in the league. Other than the last two games where they sat the starters, they were 16-2 since March 7th and one of the 2 was missing Luka.
Look at the starters besides Kyrie. PJ and Gafford came from lotto teams and PJ wasn't even a starter there. DJJ was a minimum contract. Exum who started a lot was a minimum contract. Dereck Lively was a rookie. Add in Kyrie missing 1/4th of the season and it puts into perspective how impressive it is that the Mavs won 50 games. They would have been the 2nd seed in the East.
Only 1 person on this show has done his homework on Luka and actually watched his games and it’s the man on the left. There’s not a single one of them up there that would say right here/now that they would rather have Jokic over Luka in a game 7 (post season) game. And that should tell you everything you need to know. Period.

Had the voting gone differently and Jokic had 0 MVPs doesn't change his ability one iota, because it's a subjective award primarily based on narrative. Luka is better.
