    "Are you not entertained?"
Fun Fact: After Maximus shouts that line in the Zucchabar scene, you can see a crew member in jeans and a white t-shirt in the stands on the extreme left.
Bonus Fact: Maximus' description of his home (specifically, how the kitchen is arranged and smells in the morning and at night) was ad-libbed. It's a description of Russell Crowe's own home in Australia.
Bonus Fact: Joaquin Phoenix ad-libbed his "Am I not merciful?" scream. Connie Nielsen wasn't expecting it, and her frightened reaction was genuine.
Heartbreaking Fact: Oliver Reed died three weeks before principal photography ended. Because Proximo was considered a key character, a clause in the movie's insurance contract would have allowed the filmmakers to re-shoot all of Reed's scenes with another actor at the insurer's expense, about $25 million. However, most of the actors and crew were exhausted from the punishing schedule, and Ridley Scott did not want to cut Reed from the movie. The script was rewritten, and a body double and CGI were used to give Reed's character a plausible resolution.

Not perfect but well aware of his weaknesses and trying to be a better man. My most belowed Emperor for sure. Also it is cool to read Meditations. A digital body double was created for the remaining scenes involving actor Oliver Reed's character Proximo (the old gladiator) due to Reed's death during production. Reed died from a heart attack during a break from filming Gladiator in Valletta, Malta, on the afternoon of 2 May 1999. According to witnesses, he drank eight pints of German lager, a dozen shots of rum, half a bottle of whiskey and a few shots of Hennessy cognac, in a drinking match against a group of sailors on shore leave from HMS Cumberland at a local pub. His bar bill totaled a little over 270 Maltese lira (almost 450 GBP; about 590 USD). After beating five much younger Royal Navy sailors at arm-wrestling, Reed suddenly collapsed, dying while en route to hospital in an ambulance. He was 61 years old

Two of his most famous quotes are "waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be. Be one"

I was fortunate enough to stay in Rome once. Had an Airbnb about a quarter mile away from the colosseum. I woke up early and live-streamed the sunrise. I was on the same road as the colosseum. It’s one of those things I’ll never forget. It was fascinating walking through the same locations as I’ve read about in history. Florence, Italy is seriously one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. When you watch Braveheart (eventually). Much was filmed in Ireland (which is beautiful) but I’d based in the highlands of Scotland. I got to spend time in the Isle of Skye. Was the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen. Spend your time and money on travel…you’ll never regret it. Good energies my friend.

When Quintus said to Maximus “people should know when they are conquered” and Maximus replied with “Would you Quintus? Would I?” That is what the movie is all about.
Also when Proximo died the actor died earlier in filming so they took footage from earlier before Maximus fought the guy with the gold mask. And because the actor died they also changed the ending to what we got but what was planned was Proximo burying his rudius symbolizing Maximus won freedom.

When he’s good, he’s great.
