      I agree, I feel inspired too! I studied fashion at university and I specialised in lingerie making. I teach sewing now and don't really find time to make things for myself. However since everyone has been on lockdown I have found more time for me. After watching this video I feel in the mood to get making again! 🙆🏼‍♀️💕💃

    Hi there. I’ve made knickers as part of a learn to sew with knits course I did a few years ago but I don’t know what pattern we used. They are quite fun to make aren’t they? I like the Acacia which I already have the pattern for and the Stevie - which look a slightly higher leg which also look nice. Thanks for sharing. Diana

    Wow just found your vlogs. They are good. The high waisted knickers are great for high waisted trousers, if you wear the bikini knickers with high waist trouser you get a gap from the bikini top of knicker and the high waist. Doesnt look good and feels uncomfortable. They are lovely. xx

  • @lynneprentice4278

    Great vlog Jayne! I always use my jersey scraps for knickers. I use the Paper Theory Stevie as my go to. It gives great bum coverage! I have got the Maxine pattern, which is great for wearing under higher waist trousers so you don’t get a tummy line! 😍❤️ I use an old white jersey tee shirt that I cut up to make the inside gussets 😘Have you tried giving men’s jersey underpants a go - completely different to knickers but another great scrap buster. I am sure John would be up for a pair 😁 A great online supplier of knicker elastic and where I get mine from is The English Couture Company x

    12£ for a meter! Come to Reno NV. We have a great fabric store. I found their most expensive is around 12$ a yard and that is upholstery. I bought knicker fabric for 3-5 a yard and can’t wait to create starting tonight.

    When you were describing the method for putting elastic onto the pants, you mentioned getting a little step where the side seam ends at the lace, but I had a thought, you could do a small bar tack to flatten that bit of the seam that has the elastic. Am I making sense? If you don’t get what I’m rambling on about, please let me know. I also much prefer to add my elastic to the legs before joining the sideseams. 😬😀

    You can also use extra fabric scraps as an elastic substitute. Apply as if you would insert a neckband but on the waist band and leg areas. I haven't tried it yet myself but saw someone on Instagram do that. Looks super comfortable. I've only made ONE Acacia pair of knickers using fold over elastic on waistband and quarter inch braided elastic along legs. I added about an inch along waistline to cover belly more. They are wonderful and I definitely need more. I'll adjust gusset a little next time to extend forward a bit, but overall a great pattern.

    Thanks so much for all your research :-) I'm not sure which are your favorite type. Care to share? Also, when I start the begining, my machine tires to "eat" the fabric, each time... super annoying. Any tips please?

    • @noemir8262
      @noemir8262 Před 3 lety +1

      Tissue paper under the beginning of stitching helps. Make sure bobbin area clean. I sometimes hold/pull the threads towards the back of machine when starting a stitch or push the garment with an awl or some other object to help feed the fabric under the presser foot. Use a jersey or stretch needle as well. 😉

    • @TheDressmakersCloset
      @TheDressmakersCloset  Před 11 měsíci

      You could try folding your fabric over twice to cover the elastic but this would make your pattern a bit smaller so you could add extra seam allowance in beforehand

    Sorry, but one of the reasons why I sew my own stuff is that I don't want to sponsor slavery in India and elswhere. So there is definitely a good reason to buy fabric to make your own stuff. I can't avoid the production of the fabrics because there are no good labels to trust how it was produced.
    Bought clothes are never a good bargain, not matter what the price is.

    2:04 Demonstrates the perfect way to get someone to stop watching your video. I do not have any jersey scraps and do not fit ready-to-wear sizes. So no, I cannot run out and buy cheap undergarments. I started watching this video based on the title, which you rudely contradict. #clickbait
