This Aussie is a Republican but has nothing but the utmost respect for the late and great HRH Elizabeth II (RIP). My dad was lucky enough to meet her and other royals. My stepfather fought for her rule, in The Australian Army. I'm not pro-colinisation in any way. But I have respect for a woman who took on a role and made her mark in history, working tirelessly even when her sweetheart passed away.
As an American, I’ve lived through 12 US presidents, 9 Ga state governors, countless other US politicians, 8 USSR/Russian presidents, countless other world leaders, the fall of the Soviet Union and the Berlin Wall, constant wars in the Middle East, computerization and digitization of the world, NASA, the International Space Station, 9/11, a worldwide pandemic, etc, etc, etc. etc. Through all of that, Queen Elizabeth was a constant, dependable, steadfast presence. As a 35 year old American woman, being native American. I appreciate your words this is history and it hurts how some people don't understand how this is history. Life is short. We have to appreciate the time we have here on Earth. I was upset with how those who watch the Premier league were mad at their matches being postponed. It's as though they don't understand history being made. Football is just a game, nothing more.
She was a symbol of hope and stability. Growing up I always heard about the Queen of England, Elizabeth II and all the amazing things she's done and what she's witnessed throughout our crazy world. At the end of the day, as long as I knew she was still there, despite what was going on, we would be ok, now she is not, I didn't know her personally nor have I met her but it saddens me that she's no longer with us. I was driving my coach out of London just after the news broke, announced to the passengers of her passing and the coach was silent for the entire trip, a very sad day and although she didn't even know i existed her passing felt like a very personal loss to me. In my 24 years alive she was my one and only Queen.

A very touching tribute to Her Majesty. I was born in 1963 in Canada, a citizen of the Commonwealth. HER majesty was entering her 11th year of rule and for most of my life she was my only queen. I still considered Elizabeth as "my queen" even after my family moved to the U.S.A. in 1971 and became a citizen in 1976. I still miss her. Even as Charles III will be formally crowned on May 6th 2023....

II'm not British, I'm not even American, but her death devastated me. When I was a little girl, her smiling portrait hung on the wall in an English classroom at a small Russian school. Our teacher told us how great she is. And since then, Her Majesty has inspired me. Her life story gave me strength when I fell due to the loss of moral strength. Her sense of humor made me smile when I didn't feel like smiling. She was even one of the reasons why i learned English. Her death is great loss not only english speaking society, but to all people who was born all arond the world while her reign.
I remember when I was 18 when I had just found out that Princess Diana passed away and watching the news. Today, I was in the middle of teaching in my French course at college in Texas when one of my students got the message a few minutes after it was announced. We had to take a break. She was The Queen, as loved and respected as my own late queen Fabiola. She even shared the first name with our own late Queen Mother (or grandmother of our late king Baudouin) Élisabeth, wife of our late king Albert I. She had the same devotion to her people, pushed even further since she performed her duties till her last bitof strength, always faithful to the vow she pledged when she was 21. I found out she has passed away an hour or so before I finished working, and the second I opened the door to my flat, the tears started running, and soon enough I sobbed to my mum on the phone. It is so hard to imagine a world without her beautiful smile, energy and presence. I truly thought that she will live long after I'm gone.
It honestly feels like a page in history has just turned. My father was born four months after Queen Elizabeth was crowned and now he's 70 and retired. It's unbelievable that the Queen has done this job for seven decades until literally the day she died. With Prince William and Prince George in the line of succession it's unlikely many of us alive today will ever hear "God Save the Queen" sung again officially. It's going to take some getting used to. That being said, "God Save the King" and rest in peace Queen Elizabeth.

Yeah, she was one of the best. Accomplished so much in her short life. Cutting ribbons, smashing bottles off ships, reading speeches her speechwriter wrote for her. I can't believe she's gone. Gone far too soon.
Thankyou James. All my adult life I travelled around many Countries. People would always ask me about my Queen. I would say "I'm very proud of her & I try to live my life so she would be proud of me." In Pyrenees's mountains I got asked by a bunch of grape-pickers to teach them the National Anthem. I was fortunate enough to meet her after Desert Storm. She visited American and English service people to thank us for our service. She was gracious and didn't worry about our American faux pas when greeting her. She came to us to talk and she told a few stories about her WW2 service and what it meant to her to be of service to the greater good. May she rest in peace.

Queen Elizabeth II visited us 16 times, and I think the fact that her first visit was the first time our Head Of State had visited our country really made a lasting impact on people. As Malcolm Turnbull commented regarding the loss of the republican referendum: there are more Elizabethans than Monarchists in Australia.
You know I always thought it was my Grandma on the money when I was little. Later I found out that they were born the same year, their birthdays days apart. My Grandma never wore pants in her entire life, not to garden, not to bowl. Their hairstyles were always similar although my Grandma rarely wore hats after the ‘70’s. My Grandma died in January of this year and we were glad she never saw the Queen die. It’s almost like her dying again to go through all this. Two ladies - of one mind on what was good and proper. The world will never see their like again.

I am a citizen of the United States and have been devastated by Queen Elizabeth's passing, in tears off and on thru-out the day. She was a woman I admired greatly and while she was not my country's leader for the past 70 years, she has been the Queen of England for 2 years before I was born. She was a remarkable woman and while I know the entire world mourns her passing, my heart goes out most especially to her family, and to her subjects. I don’t really know how to describe how I feel, other than as if I’ve lost a parent - having lost both already that may sound a bit silly, but that’s how it feels. Sadly, I never met her, but she was always there in the background - a constant force for good who had our best interests at heart. Like my parents, she was from that generation often described as the ‘greatest’, born between the World Wars, who knew what duty, service and sacrifice meant, and stepped up to the plate when called upon. She was 7 months younger than my Mum, and about the same build & height. The Queen was married 2 years later than Mum, had children in the ‘50s and ‘60s like Mum, saw them marry (and in my case, divorce) like Mum, lost her husband late in life like Mum. All my life it was a case of the Queen ‘catching Mum up in April’ - a thought which still comes to mind each year on Mum’s birthday, years after her passing. Like a parent, the Queen has just always been there. Edward VIII’s abdication meant the hardest job in the world was coming to her, yet while still in her twenties, knowing what would one day come, she publicly devoted herself to a life of duty. Whether or not you’re a monarchist, it is impossible to dispute that the whole world is a better place for the life and work of HM Queen Elizabeth II, and a poorer one for her passing. We shall not see her like again. Rest in Peace, your Majesty, and ‘thank you, Ma’am’. Long live the King.

The minute I found out on the 8th that she had passed, I started to get upset and I cried. I didn't think I would get so upset with her passing. I knew it would happen some day soon. I like how someone put it when I was watching a live stream that afternoon. It was like member of your family had passed away. She was like a grandmother to us all. Really upset at the passing of Her Majesty. I'm 35 and throughout my entire existence she's been the head of state. I swore an oath of allegiance many years ago when I joined the British Army, it stands to this day. God save the queen and long live the king.

Even though she is a queen and lived in a palace with servants, but she took her title seriously, she really earned people's respect as the Queen. I know a lot of old people would be retired and not able to get off their bed in their 80s let alone visiting people, but the Queen still travelled to places to conduct her duties! what an incredible human being she was!

I have fond memories of watching the Queen's Christmas Day Address to the nation while I sat round the table eating lunch with my family. As a British person, I have alot of admiration for the Late Queen. It feels weird like a lose of my grandma, I'm very conscious that we are experiencing history unfold and a new era. The military and the laws are within the remit of Parliament not the Monarch. The Monarch’s role is ceremonial and they open Parliament but they do not rule it. That is the job of the Prime Minister. When a new Prime Minister is elected the Monarch asks them to form a government in there name. The Monarch also receives any Prime Minister’s resignation. So, a woman I adored and admired so much was never the villain you tried to paint her as. It's so strange to think she is gone, having been Queen through the entirety of my life, of so many peoples' lives. It's a loss on so many levels, even in such a simple way as something that's been a part of the world for such a long time and then the changing of things, of the world, with the suddenness of it's loss. A wonderful thing about Her Late Majesty is due to the era in which she lived, and that is that we will always have an immense library of vivid images, videos, recordings that will keep her memory alive in a way that is unmatched in the history of the monarchy. It's also nearly impossible to think seriously about Elizabeth II without also comparing her to Elizabeth I, the great Tudor queen of over 400 years ago. Although the role of the monarch has changed dramatically from one of command and ownership to one of service, I think the two queens would smile on each other as equally successful in their own ways. And it is remarkable that Elizabeth I's reign saw the first steps in what would become the British Empire, while Elizabeth II's saw its dissolution and reformation in a way into the Commonwealth with strong input from Her Late Majesty. They serve as bookends to the age of Imperial Britain, both similarly greatly admired although for different reasons.
You can always rely on James to give a heartfelt, thoughtful eulogy. She served tirelessly for many decades AND she still made the time to have tea with Paddington Bear.

From my family and my great grandparents who served in WW1, to my Grandad who was a Lancaster pilot shot down in WW2 and buried in France, to my own service of over 15 years, the Royal Family and more importantly, Her Majesty, the Queen, were my rock and my families rock. I was so inspired by her too! I actually got so inspired that I was motivated to be like her - to never work a day in my life, to get hundrets of millions a year to live my lifestyle and represent the people, to walk with straight head and dignity because I never felt back pain because never actually carried something with my hands. I got so inspired but then I had some tacos at work and had to poop. Unfortunately I pooped my dreams out too and had to get back to work because it was the hottest day of the summer and my life and 2 childs needed something different than dreams served on the table to eat. Queen Elizabeth was a mechanic and driver during WWII. She served her country, not just as a soldier, but as a monarch. She didn't want to be Queen, but had no real say in the matter. If she didn't take the throne, it would have gone to her uncle, who was a sympathizer to Nazis. So in order to make sure the UK ended up on the right side of history, she dedicated her life to service. She was expected to essentially just be a figurehead and stay completely neutral in all things regarding politics. No matter what party took power, no matter what policies they chose to push, she was supposed to just sit there quietly and smile, otherwise there could be a political uprising. Because if the monarchy openly disagrees with the government, then that is a very quick war to civil war as the people would split between them. So she sat there, quietly, wearing clothing with the colors of a nation she was supporting, wearing a broach that was a symbol of a country or an ideology. She would make her opinions knows to family, who would then go out and speak to others and spread the word. For example, when the horrific Brexit decision was made, she was sitting there quietly wearing an outfit proudly symbolizing the EU (the colors and a broach representing the EU pinned over her heart). She did what she could to push for an end to slavery and racism, pushing for equality and respect, while the politicians tried to keep a death grip on the country and colonialism. Most Royal women (and politicians) are Fae Wray, Queen Elizabeth was Sigourney Weaver. She wasn't going to let anyone push her around. Sure, she'll do her duty to the country and the monarchy, but she will throw all the shade she could while doing it. Such as when she unfortunately had to meet with the orange traitor. She proudly wore the broach that Obama gave her every time she had to be in a room with him. When she was meeting with the king of Saudi Arabia, they all gathered into the Royal Land Rovers (much like how the US president has those presidential SUV's). The Saudi royal got into the car only to find the Queen behind the wheel. In Saudi Arabia, women were not allowed to drive. She drove him to the palace, pushing the car to the limits, breakneck speeds, tight turns... would have made Fast & Furious proud... and scared the Saudi leader to death. Hopped out of the car with a smile, while he needed help because he was shaking too much. As much criticism as the Royal Family rightfully gets... the Queen Mum was unique. She devoted herself to her duty and to the people, and to delivering change in whatever way she could. And was an inspiration to women the world over, showing them that they didn't have to be the tradition frail girls that men expected them to be. And for 70 long years she was a rock. A symbol of strength and stability in a world of endless change and uncertainty.

I was driving my coach out of London just after the news broke, announced to the passengers of her passing and the coach was silent for the entire trip, a very sad day and although she didn't even know i existed her passing felt like a very personal loss to me. II'm not British, I'm not even American, but her death devastated me. When I was a little girl, her smiling portrait hung on the wall in an English classroom at a small Russian school. Our teacher told us how great she is. And since then, Her Majesty has inspired me. Her life story gave me strength when I fell due to the loss of moral strength. Her sense of humor made me smile when I didn't feel like smiling. She was even one of the reasons why i learned English. Her death is great loss not only english speaking society, but to all people who was born all arond the world while her reign.

I remember when I was 18 when I had just found out that Princess Diana passed away and watching the news. Today, I was in the middle of teaching in my French course at college in Texas when one of my students got the message a few minutes after it was announced. We had to take a break. My daughter who is in middle school said she had friends that were crying. Thank you, James, for your presence and your words. Queen Elizabeth will be missed tremendously, all over the world.

I found out she has passed away an hour or so before I finished working, and the second I opened the door to my flat, the tears started running, and soon enough I sobbed to my mum on the phone. It is so hard to imagine a world without her beautiful smile, energy and presence. I truly thought that she will live long after I'm gone.

It honestly feels like a page in history has just turned. My father was born four months after Queen Elizabeth was crowned and now he's 70 and retired. It's unbelievable that the Queen has done this job for seven decades until literally the day she died. With Prince William and Prince George in the line of succession it's unlikely many of us alive today will ever hear "God Save the Queen" sung again officially. It's going to take some getting used to. That being said, "God Save the King" and rest in peace Queen Elizabeth.

I would say "I'm very proud of her & I try to live my life so she would be proud of me." In Pyrenees's mountains I got asked by a bunch of grape-pickers to teach them the National Anthem. She was gracious and didn't worry about our American faux pas when greeting her. She came to us to talk and she told a few stories about her WW2 service and what it meant to her to be of service to the greater good. May she rest in peace.

You know I always thought it was my Grandma on the money when I was little. Later I found out that they were born the same year, their birthdays days apart. My Grandma never wore pants in her entire life, not to garden, not to bowl. Their hairstyles were always similar although my Grandma rarely wore hats after the ‘70’s.
My Grandma died in January of this year and we were glad she never saw the Queen die.
It’s almost like her dying again to go through all this.

I don’t really know how to describe how I feel, other than as if I’ve lost a parent - having lost both already that may sound a bit silly, but that’s how it feels. Sadly, I never met her, but she was always there in the background - a constant force for good who had our best interests at heart. Like my parents, she was from that generation often described as the ‘greatest’, born between the World Wars, who knew what duty, service and sacrifice meant, and stepped up to the plate when called upon. She was 7 months younger than my Mum, and about the same build & height. The Queen was married 2 years later than Mum, had children in the ‘50s and ‘60s like Mum, saw them marry (and in my case, divorce) like Mum, lost her husband late in life like Mum. All my life it was a case of the Queen ‘catching Mum up in April’ - a thought which still comes to mind each year on Mum’s birthday, years after her passing. Like a parent, the Queen has just always been there. Edward VIII’s abdication meant the hardest job in the world was coming to her, yet while still in her twenties, knowing what would one day come, she publicly devoted herself to a life of duty. Whether or not you’re a monarchist, it is impossible to dispute that the whole world is a better place for the life and work of HM Queen Elizabeth II, and a poorer one for her passing. We shall not see her like again. Rest in Peace, your Majesty, and ‘thank you, Ma’am’. Long live the King.

The minute I found out on the 8th that she had passed, I started to get upset and I cried. I didn't think I would get so upset with her passing. I knew it would happen some day soon. I like how someone put it when I was watching a live stream that afternoon. It was like member of your family had passed away. She was like a grandmother to us all. She served her country, her people, and the world with honour and dignity, and always with a kind and beautiful heart. She was truly one in a million, and she will forever be missed.

She was so deeply enmeshed with and identified with her country because she was the only monarch most of us ever knew of England due to her long reign. RIP Queen Elizabeth, she was a strong, wonderful, human being and leader. As a Canadian she has always been a huge figure in our country even though many of us never met her or even saw her in person, it always felt like we knew her. The world is definitely a lot less bright without her.

Everytime I read or hear about the Queen, I shed tears of sorrow. What an amazing lady,and what a magnificent legacy she left for all of us.

It's so strange to think she is gone, having been Queen through the entirety of my life, of so many peoples' lives. It's a loss on so many levels, even in such a simple way as something that's been a part of the world for such a long time and then the changing of things, of the world, with the suddenness of it's loss. But most importantly the loss of a human. I am thinking of her family and close friends who are suffering more than the loss of a Queen. It's such sad news.

A wonderful thing about Her Late Majesty is due to the era in which she lived, and that is that we will always have an immense library of vivid images, videos, recordings that will keep her memory alive in a way that is unmatched in the history of the monarchy.
It's also nearly impossible to think seriously about Elizabeth II without also comparing her to Elizabeth I, the great Tudor queen of over 400 years ago. Although the role of the monarch has changed dramatically from one of command and ownership to one of service, I think the two queens would smile on each other as equally successful in their own ways. And it is remarkable that Elizabeth I's reign saw the first steps in what would become the British Empire, while Elizabeth II's saw its dissolution and reformation in a way into the Commonwealth with strong input from Her Late Majesty. They serve as bookends to the age of Imperial Britain, both similarly greatly admired although for different reasons.
Well said, James. It's the passing of an Era. Gracious, smiling, an emblem of stability, I, as an American, will miss her.
You can always rely on James to give a heartfelt, thoughtful eulogy. She served tirelessly for many decades AND she still made the time to have tea with Paddington Bear.
Spot on mate. From my family and my great grandparents who served in WW1, to my Grandad who was a Lancaster pilot shot down in WW2 and buried in France, to my own service of over 15 years, the Royal Family and more importantly, Her Majesty, the Queen, were my rock and my families rock. She was like your Grandma, always there, providing a sense of calm for the nation. It was like we had someone at the wheelhouse steering the ship always in the right direction and you felt she would always be there, immortal as you say. Big shock and a big loss that we will feel for years, its the end of an era, an epoch, there will never be another like her and there is not one name left globally today of similar stature or equal, that if they died tomorrow, the world would react the same; nobody. Thank You Your Majesty, thank you my Queen, may you Rest In Peace eternally, I thank you for your service and for remaining true to it, yourself and your people.

I was so inspired by her too! I actually got so inspired that I was motivated to be like her - to never work a day in my life, to get hundrets of millions a year to live my lifestyle and represent the people, to walk with straight head and dignity because I never felt back pain because never actually carried something with my hands. I got so inspired but then I had some tacos at work and had to poop. Unfortunately I pooped my dreams out too and had to get back to work because it was the hottest day of the summer and my life and 2 childs needed something different than dreams served on the table to eat. God save the queen!

I'm glad someone did this without making light of it or cracking weak jokes. For many Brits, this is a profoundly sad time - grateful for her long life and dedication - but still sad. James treated the Queen's passing with sensitivity and was respectul. Appreciated.

people knew exactly who you were talking about. Her selfless service was a force. Her Christian values expressed were SO needed in a world we’re God seems to be out of fashion. She forgave. She fostered Peace. She dearly LOVED the Countries AND more the PEOPLE she was Sovereign to in the Commonweath. I’m truly nauseated by the cries of colonialism from our woke society. Queen Elizabeth was a mechanic and driver during WWII. She served her country, not just as a soldier, but as a monarch.
She didn't want to be Queen, but had no real say in the matter. If she didn't take the throne, it would have gone to her uncle, who was a sympathizer to Nazis. So in order to make sure the UK ended up on the right side of history, she dedicated her life to service.
She was expected to essentially just be a figurehead and stay completely neutral in all things regarding politics. No matter what party took power, no matter what policies they chose to push, she was supposed to just sit there quietly and smile, otherwise there could be a political uprising. Because if the monarchy openly disagrees with the government, then that is a very quick war to civil war as the people would split between them.
So she sat there, quietly, wearing clothing with the colors of a nation she was supporting, wearing a broach that was a symbol of a country or an ideology. She would make her opinions knows to family, who would then go out and speak to others and spread the word. For example, when the horrific Brexit decision was made, she was sitting there quietly wearing an outfit proudly symbolizing the EU (the colors and a broach representing the EU pinned over her heart).
She did what she could to push for an end to slavery and racism, pushing for equality and respect, while the politicians tried to keep a death grip on the country and colonialism.
Most Royal women (and politicians) are Fae Wray, Queen Elizabeth was Sigourney Weaver. She wasn't going to let anyone push her around. Sure, she'll do her duty to the country and the monarchy, but she will throw all the shade she could while doing it. Such as when she unfortunately had to meet with the orange traitor. She proudly wore the broach that Obama gave her every time she had to be in a room with him.
When she was meeting with the king of Saudi Arabia, they all gathered into the Royal Land Rovers (much like how the US president has those presidential SUV's). The Saudi royal got into the car only to find the Queen behind the wheel. In Saudi Arabia, women were not allowed to drive. She drove him to the palace, pushing the car to the limits, breakneck speeds, tight turns... would have made Fast & Furious proud... and scared the Saudi leader to death. Hopped out of the car with a smile, while he needed help because he was shaking too much.
As much criticism as the Royal Family rightfully gets... the Queen Mum was unique. She devoted herself to her duty and to the people, and to delivering change in whatever way she could. And was an inspiration to women the world over, showing them that they didn't have to be the tradition frail girls that men expected them to be. And for 70 long years she was a rock. A symbol of strength and stability in a world of endless change and uncertainty.

I wasn't sad but this is perhaps one of the best remembrance speeches I heard. Sincerity, Jaime's honest emotion without bells and whistles and his genuine grief made me silence my own thoughts, respectfully listen and empathize. This is a concept that is being trashed in the age of social media where all manner of ridiculous and fallacious opinions are heralded as truth just because of the amount of views and likes. I don't share his sentiments, I respect them and made room for them, recognizing his perspective as genuine and worthy of acknowledgement. And so James, my deepest condolences. I am black, west Indian, a student of history on a UK created syllabus and while i may have reasons to be contentious, indeed a common humanity provides me with more reasons to be quiet while others are expressing genuine grief. RESPECT.
