Description:
This “ci” poem depicts a sorrowful and heart-wrenching love story, which expresses the poet’s own innocent ideal of love. In the poem, the fleetingness of an emperor’s grand ceremony is contrasted with the endurance of the Wildgoose Tomb, signifying the paramount standing of pure love in the poet’s heart, as well as reflecting his sincere belief in humanism. The joy of life versus the grief of death, memories of the past versus hopes for the future; these elements foreshadow and complement each other, weaving the threads of intertwining and lasting love into a story that ebbs and flows.
Throughout the history of Chinese poetry, this is the most captivating masterpiece about love. Past or present, at home or abroad, no other love poem parallels its influence on Chinese culture. The poet's vivid portrayal of love has been sung and passed down generation after generation in history. One can only understand“What Is Love”with their heart.
