Saw them live in Japan in January and April, and on a couple of their Sabaton tour shows, and you are 100% correct about the live experience. I can't imagine how much better it would have been to see a live show in this era of Babymetal..

I went to see Sabaton a few months ago with babymetal supporting. I had never heard of them, my jaw dropped it was insane, fing loved every second of it.

I only discovered them last year, at 50. Wish I'd done so 10 years ago, they've made a noticeable difference to my mood. I had to fly to Aussie to see them in concert, but it was worth it. Better to find them now than next year is all I can say. 😎

This was Su-Metals 16th birthday at this show. I saw them live in 2016 at the Tokyo dome, my Japanese girlfriend at the time, had tickets for both nights, freaking awesome. They played over 2 nights, Red Night -Black Night , both nights total shocked me
Definitely not techno or dance in this one, just pure good old fashioned thrash metal about teenage girls who want to eat chocolate. Gimme Choko is Babymetal's most famous (or infamous) song. It went viral in 2014, leading to them gaining recognition all around the world and opening the doors to their first tours in the west. I completely get the feeling of annoyance at not discovering Babymetal much sooner than I did. I first saw them in 2014 when Gimme Choko went viral, but I didn't really pay much attention to them and moved on. It was only years later that I really gave them a chance and they have become my favourite band probably ever. Since then, I've been lucky enough to see them live seven times, both at big venues in Japan, and smaller venues in my home country (Australia) and I can say that there is nothing else like Babymetal live. Your next stop on the Babymetal train should definitely be Ijime Dame Zettai, Headbanger, or Megitsune. Try and watch live whenever possible.

I discovered them in 2014 with this song. I did the exact same thing you did. Same reaction basically. I must've replayed that video over 10 times, my first time hearing it. And I immediately went looking for every music video they had at the time which was, Doki Doki Morning, Headbanger, Ijime Dame Zettai, and IINE. It's been a non stop roller coaster since. This band literally changed my life after I discovered them. I've made so many friends from around the world because of them. I've gone to Japan 4 times because of them. I've discovered other amazing Japanese bands, idols and genres of music. Japanese music is all Iisten to now. I mean, look at me now. Almost ten years since I've discovered them and I'm STILL following them and watching reaction videos. I've seen them live 22 times and am planning on two more shows this summer. So yeah, life changing to say the least. And wait till you start discovering other Japanese bands. You're gonna be blown away. Try Hanabie, Band-Maid, Nemophila, and Lovebites, just to name a few. As a fan of Babymetal who experienced what you just did, I don't think I've ever liked and subscribed more efficiently. There is a degree of irony that Metalizm and Gimme Chocolate are two of the songs that some first time listeners to Babymetal will start with and dislike, resisting any suggestion to try other performances and songs. You got part of that where you thought Metalizm meant they were egyptian metal-core that mixed in metal; why would you think otherwise right? Next you see an early Kawaii metal live performance from the Legend 1997 concert, and had a blast with both you've seen, you are in for a fantastic time as you continue. I almost don't want to suggest anything specifically other than to try starting with older live performances and work forward - it can be fun to see them grow as individual performers and a band. That said, and i'm sure others will have great suggestions as well, but keep these in mind to make sure you don't miss them they are all special in their own way. At some point look these up (each are easily searchable on youtube). i'm a late comer like you. only found out about them 4 months ago when someone recommended "gimme chocolate" to another reactor i watch. that's what got me started. the good thing is we are able to play catch up with so many outstanding videos here on you tube. tracing their history back over the last 13 years is quite the ride. i already have over a dozen favorite songs and am looking forward to seeing them in october. it will probably be the culmination of my 40+ years of concert going. you still have so many great songs to look forward to discovering. try one of su-metal's solo songs live like "akatsuki" or "rondo of nightmare"(with mischiefs of god intro). she commands your attention every second. I saw Babymetal for the first time in Berlin a few months back. They were opening for Sabaton. It was indeed one of the craziest experiences to live though. I cried. They are about to start touring North America. Get tickets

This video was recommended to me a few years ago through whatever algorithm youtube uses, most likely because i watch anime and listen to Metal. My reactions to it were very similar to your initial reactions as well. I wasn't sure what i was watching, but to be honest, i could not stop smiling. But it isn't the end of the world; I, too, was late to the party - I only discovered BABYMETAL around the middle of last year. My two greatest regrets are that I completely missed the "Yui Era", and I'll probably never be able to go to one of their concerts. However, I did do some catching up: I've listened to all four of their studio albums, watched several of their concerts here on CZcams, was mesmerized by a number of their music videos, and taken in numerous versions of numerous songs. I kept seeing reactors watch "Babymetal". I had no interest whatsoever. August 2020 sitting in lockdown I gave Jinjer, Dimash and Babymetal a chance. I must have watched this video 20 times. I could not believe what I was seeing. I had never seen anything like it and I'm old. I can't explain it, they just make me happy. I literally haven't gone a day since then without my Babymetal fix.

Good reaction - but you really need to find something that's live & preferably not "official" which tends to have a track dumped over a live performance - welcome to BM though 🙂 It took me 9 years to find them (I blame Japanese insularism litigousness and Amuse :P) and most ppl I know have never heard of them which is kinda criminal imo 😂. They do seem to have slackened off on trashing ppl for giving them free advertising and reviewing their stuff though - at last (I hope).

"I'm so pissed off it took me this long to find them" I feel you brother! I didn't discover them until about this time last year, and have since learned how much I missed out on. Saw them live in Japan in January and April, and on a couple of their Sabaton tour shows, and you are 100% correct about the live experience. I can't imagine how much better it would have been to see a live show in this era of Babymetal..

This was Su-Metals 16th birthday at this show. I saw them live in 2016 at the Tokyo dome, my Japanese girlfriend at the time, had tickets for both nights, freaking awesome. They played over 2 nights, Red Night -Black Night , both nights total shocked me

Gimme Choko is Babymetal's most famous (or infamous) song. It went viral in 2014, leading to them gaining recognition all around the world and opening the doors to their first tours in the west.
I completely get the feeling of annoyance at not discovering Babymetal much sooner than I did. I first saw them in 2014 when Gimme Choko went viral, but I didn't really pay much attention to them and moved on. It was only years later that I really gave them a chance and they have become my favourite band probably ever. Since then, I've been lucky enough to see them live seven times, both at big venues in Japan, and smaller venues in my home country (Australia) and I can say that there is nothing else like Babymetal live.
Your next stop on the Babymetal train should definitely be Ijime Dame Zettai, Headbanger, or Megitsune. Try and watch live whenever possible.

I discovered them in 2014 with this song. I did the exact same thing you did. Same reaction basically. I must've replayed that video over 10 times, my first time hearing it. And I immediately went looking for every music video they had at the time which was, Doki Doki Morning, Headbanger, Ijime Dame Zettai, and IINE. It's been a non stop roller coaster since. This band literally changed my life after I discovered them. I've made so many friends from around the world because of them. I've gone to Japan 4 times because of them. I've discovered other amazing Japanese bands, idols and genres of music. Japanese music is all Iisten to now. I mean, look at me now. Almost ten years since I've discovered them and I'm STILL following them and watching reaction videos. I've seen them live 22 times and am planning on two more shows this summer. So yeah, life changing to say the least. And wait till you start discovering other Japanese bands. You're gonna be blown away. Try Hanabie, Band-Maid, Nemophila, and Lovebites, just to name a few. As a fan of Babymetal who experienced what you just did, I don't think I've ever liked and subscribed more efficiently.
There is a degree of irony that Metalizm and Gimme Chocolate are two of the songs that some first time listeners to Babymetal will start with and dislike, resisting any suggestion to try other performances and songs. You got part of that where you thought Metalizm meant they were egyptian metal-core that mixed in metal; why would you think otherwise right? Next you see an early Kawaii metal live performance from the Legend 1997 concert, and had a blast with both you've seen, you are in for a fantastic time as you continue. I almost don't want to suggest anything specifically other than to try starting with older live performances and work forward - it can be fun to see them grow as individual performers and a band.
That said, and i'm sure others will have great suggestions as well, but keep these in mind to make sure you don't miss them they are all special in their own way. At some point look these up (each are easily searchable on youtube).

i'm a late comer like you. only found out about them 4 months ago when someone recommended "gimme chocolate" to another reactor i watch. that's what got me started. the good thing is we are able to play catch up with so many outstanding videos here on you tube. tracing their history back over the last 13 years is quite the ride. i already have over a dozen favorite songs and am looking forward to seeing them in october. it will probably be the culmination of my 40+ years of concert going. you still have so many great songs to look forward to discovering. try one of su-metal's solo songs live like "akatsuki" or "rondo of nightmare"(with mischiefs of god intro). she commands your attention every second. "babymetal death" from the 1997 legends concert will really blow you away. btw it's not the rabbithole this time, it's the foxhole (see? i'm a quick learner!).
I saw Babymetal for the first time in Berlin a few months back. They were opening for Sabaton. It was indeed one of the craziest experiences to live though. I cried.

This video was recommended to me a few years ago through whatever algorithm youtube uses, most likely because i watch anime and listen to Metal. My reactions to it were very similar to your initial reactions as well. I wasn't sure what i was watching, but to be honest, i could not stop smiling. They tend to cover many genres of music, but the music is usually very heavy. They are very young when this came out compared to the other video you watched as well. Takes me soem time to get back again then, becaus i was not really open mindet at his point in my life. And what should i say? I love it! Everybody's first reaction to Babymetal is the same. Their live shows are F'n incredible rarely matched by others. And as an 80s kids Ive seen a hell alot of shows.

No, this isn't "Metalizm"!!! This was when BABYMETAL made listening to metal fun, this was when BABYMETAL was kawaii metal, this was when BABYMETAL was BABYMETAL!
But it isn't the end of the world; I, too, was late to the party - I only discovered BABYMETAL around the middle of last year. My two greatest regrets are that I completely missed the "Yui Era", and I'll probably never be able to go to one of their concerts. However, I did do some catching up: I've listened to all four of their studio albums, watched several of their concerts here on CZcams, was mesmerized by a number of their music videos, and taken in numerous versions of numerous songs. I kept seeing reactors watch "Babymetal". I had no interest whatsoever. August 2020 sitting in lockdown I gave Jinjer, Dimash and Babymetal a chance. I must have watched this video 20 times. I could not believe what I was seeing. I had never seen anything like it and I'm old. I can't explain it, they just make me happy. I literally haven't gone a day since then without my Babymetal fix.

Good reaction - but you really need to find something that's live & preferably not "official" which tends to have a track dumped over a live performance - welcome to BM though 🙂 It took me 9 years to find them (I blame Japanese insularism litigousness and Amuse :P) and most ppl I know have never heard of them which is kinda criminal imo 😂. They do seem to have slackened off on trashing ppl for giving them free advertising and reviewing their stuff though - at last (I hope).
BabyMetal generates shock and nonpluses with most first time listeners, as in your case. Well done though! You got it! The reality is that the musicianship, composition, vocals, choreography, show production are absolutely top shelf professionally and creatively. Awesome and unique band. Go ahead. It's ok to like them.

My Advice" Save KARATE for a five or six songs into your journey, and please, please don't fo the official version. Do the fox festival 2017 live version. I've watched a ton of babymetal reactions, and the karate official version is completely wrong, it leads you to the wrong places.
