    I have baled been baling hay only for the last two years. I have helps others but baling on your own is a very rewarding process, sometime frustrating too. But love that first couple times around the field. Pure joy about it. The smell , the sounds, just fantastic. We bale small squares for horses so there is a little more sweat in the moving the bales. Still love it when it all works out.

    Josh,
    Really like your videos. I have 140 acres here in GA that I manage for wildlife, so your trials and tribulations are met with empathy and laughter. One thing to mention, and I hope it does not sound snarky, or sound like the safety police, but dude, you really should not be hooking your PTO shaft to the tractor while the tractor is running. It may seem harmless because you think "well the PTO is not engaged", but it is SUPER dangerous. Having grown up in farmland and working as a surgical tech in a trauma center to put my way through business school, I saw way too many PTO shaft injuries that made people's body parts look like Stretch Armstrong just got done with a playdate with Godzilla. Just want you to be safe brother.

    • @StoneyRidgeFarmer
      @StoneyRidgeFarmer  Před 6 lety

      I think you have a good point there for sure....must be careful...that PTO shaft means business....my wife and I are both RNs...seen some nasty tractor accidents myself...I think you just did it for me...I'll shut down the tractor when hooking up from now on....you are totally right...I just hate starting and stopping a diesel..something in my brain says let it run!

    I m glad you got your swather fixed the big ole 10 ft one too. I would love to see you plant some Bermuda for a lot more protein content. Fesscue has barely any protein and in some rare cases toxic to horses and Mediterranean-type tall fescue is dangerous to horses, but it is rarely planted in the United States and therefore is not a concern for U.S. horse owners. Bermuda is more like 9 percent protein or better. It retains its protein for most of the winter.
    I would love to see you buy some Bermuda seed and sow that everywhere your fields will be worth ten times as much for grazing or selling hay. Or Kentucky blue grass or Alfalfa. It very desirable to feed to horses and cows. My dad when he was alive he and our whole family planted a big field in Bermuda and wow it was a nice hay field.
    If you get Bermuda grass started it will take over completely in time and it grows three foot runners a years or summer. Get some that Bermuda it is the greatest grass ever.
    You could sow some Bermuda grass in with the Fescue and it will over take the Fescue . At least you keep it from eroding with the Fescue but I would plant some Bermuda in with it and thicken it up and make it into some great hay fields.

    Josh,
    I seen on your drone footage you have to make a left turn because that hey Bine is on your left side so you can't exactly pick what part of the field you want to cut all the time. Is your tractor full-time four-wheel-drive or do you get the option to put it in four-wheel-drive?
    Excellent footage of the Haybine inside of the machine running

      Most make the left hand turn simply due to it's "easier" to make, than the sharp right hand turn. Drawback to the left hand turn is, you want to turn in the direction of the PTO (clockwise), reduces the wear against those U-joints.
      The tractor should have the option of running 2wd, rather it's a button, switch or lever.
