I have to say I do prefer a slightly 'singed top' - it tends to caramelise the edges - remember growing up as a child and mum using a hand mincer on whatever was left of the Sunday roast - not a weekly thing it has to be said back then! - and adding that to a selection of finely diced/minced veg - perhaps some left overs? Always came out with the edges nice and dark - I used to love those bits - and of course being given a spoon to scrape the bits out of the dish before washing up - oh the memories!
Cheers Gareth great review. M&S quality food , Looks good , The think I like about M&S They reduce lots of products and you can get some really bargains , Especially if you go in 15 minutes before closing time , last Saturday I got two sirloin steaks for £3 and it was beautiful. I’m looking forward to trying this only if it’s reduced. Thanks Gareth see you soon . Enjoy your weekend. 🍺👍
You cooked that really well in the air fryer. Also cheers for using the red spatula I got you. I always get frustrated in getting shepards pies out of their foil cases but on this occasion you got the pie out really easy. Back to the pie itself I dont think i'd pay £4.25 for it even though it looked nice. It's defientley more of a £3 pie. So I wont be getting that one - you've saved me money already. Cheers Gareth.
The good thing with M&S is they do reduce their food really well. I am on a tight budget but will always look in M&S as it can work out cheaper. I have a few of these in my freezer but paid 82p for them. As a heads up I never use the full cooking time suggested on these ready meals. They way overestimate to err on the side of caution. As a general rule when you can smell it its nearly done. Remember everything is already cooked. BUT I'm the same with fish fillets etc. I do way under the suggested time but check at intervals

Cheers Willy much appreciated, very kind comment. Yes I will have to cook something. I've done a little cooking in my home cooking playlist. Will have to do some more. Have a good weekend 😋👌👌👌
Aye the best way to make Cottage pie is to allow plenty of time by first cooking the mince and carrots 🥕 in the slow cooker , so the mince is tender. Then when you have made the Shepherds pie , you can have as small or as large a portion as you wish . I have a small portion and love a lot of the cheese browned on the top .

Been buying this for a long time, really like it, but M&S have hiked the price to £5.25, I’m sure recently it was £4.75 but it’s in the new packaging and the price has jumped. Some of the Gastro meals for one have vanished over the past few weeks, the Fish and Chips has now returned as a meal for two, not much use if your on your own, there was a lovely Sausage and Mash that vanished weeks ago no sign of that returning. I haven’t seen that steak pie with chips you reviewed a few days ago and I was in their flagship store in London yesterday no sign of that meal.

I haven't had a shepherds pie for ages, think I might make one next week. That didn't look too bad Gareth even if there weren't many carrots, at least there was plenty of lamb....better that than the other way around lol! Probably go well with some extra veg like green beans or peas maybe.
There is very little difference between a smart price, basic, product and the most expensive product, maybe just a bit more mince and a few other items in the ingredients but not enough to pay pounds more for.
