  • India's HAL Picks up Engine for its new 5th Gen AMCA Fighter Jet.
    AMCA
India is close to sealing an agreement with France for the joint development of a 125KN engine for the indigenous fifth-generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), according to defense officials.
The Defense Research Organization (DRDO) and Safran, a French engine maker, may be collaborating on the aforementioned transaction, which is likely to be finalized in the next two months.
The Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft programme is an Indian effort to produce fifth-generation fighter aircraft for the Indian Air Force and Navy, as well as sixth-generation specialty technology.
    F 35
The F-35 increases national security, promotes international alliances, and propels economic growth. It is the world's most deadly, survivable, and linked fighter aircraft, providing pilots an advantage over any foe and allowing them to complete their mission and return home safely.
The F-35 is crucial to retaining air superiority for decades to come as adversaries advance and ageing aircraft age.
The F-35 team is developing integrated sustainment capabilities to guarantee that the aircraft is mission-ready at all times and in any location. Lockheed Martin's 24/7 operations centers and sustainment engineers work directly with our customers to address new issues and fulfil the demands of the flight line because minutes matter.

I like the optimism but lets face some brutal reality. India really depends on government sector players and often lags in such mega projects. Its important to notice that US government really loves to pick from private players. India needs to cut loose the red tapes to allow private players to produce defense equipment and hold contracts for them. We still could'nt provide tejas naval variant so, AMCA will most probably end up as a scrapped project.

First we need to understand the difference between Rocket Engine & Jet Engine. While we have mastered the Ticket Engine, we are still in the very beginning stage of developing our Fighter Engine Cauvery. Both Rocket & Fighter Jet engines are complete different. Experts say Aircraft Engine is much more complex. We have failed to meet our timelines so far, that's why we are using GE engines in Tejas fighter jets. We are also not meeting Target or developing that engine for AMCA Jet as well.

David Berke is a Marine pilot who has qualified with the F-18, F16, F-22 and F-35A. He says the F-35 is the the fighter jet he would choose out of all of them. The F-35A during combat training exercises had a 20 to 1 kill ratio and the F-35B in similar combat training exercises had a 24 to 0 kill ratio. The F-35 can target and lock onto enemy aircraft without having to point the nose towards the enemy jet via the helmet electronics. AMCA will need to achieve something similar for it to be considered a 5th gen fighter.
