I don't doubt that Merab could ragdoll O'Malley given what he did to Cejudo, but the real question is whether he can close that distance.
Cejudo had a broken arm when he started to lose control of that fight. So just keep that in mind when you start your mma math.

Now you tell me how many of those events had a 14 million dollar gate without Connor mcgregor involved? Poirier vs gaethje 2 which was considered basically a super fight did a 6.5 million dollar gate. Sean just did 2X that. Stfu unless you actually know what your talking about.

@@timytumper I honestly never thought Aljo was that great. His wins against Henry, TJ injuries Dillashaw, Yan (both) weren’t anything special. From split decisions to DQ to fighting an injuries fighter I rooted for Sean. But I thought it was still an early stoppage considering some refs allow fighters to duke it out much much longer.

This is one of my favorite Chael videos lol I truly see so much evolution in O'malley's skills. Every opponent has gone against Sean with the goal of taking sean down. Look how he beat Thomas Almada. In a lot of his fights he's shown potential of what he's capable of and I really think he can cement himself in batamweight history. Ilia's acting all arrogant like he runs the UFC with no title defenses so Ilia should focus on defending his belt. The Merab & Cory fights would be so epic for his 135 fight list. I know people have been discrediting chito after this but going into this everyone held that loss over Sean's head and people still had a feeling chito could beat Sean, or Sean would be super boring. YET Sean went out there and put on a 5 round masterclass. Proving his cardio and levels to his skills and fight IQ. I've never seen Chito THAT hurt before and even tho Cory beat chito, it's crazy how Sean was able to damage chito that bad. He has very effective offensive aggression. Most people with feints and his abilities don't fight like Sean. Others need there opponent to come to them in order to maybe counter them but Sean's proven he is Effective fighting in pretty much every direction, either stance, crazy timing juking output which makes his feints work more because he actually attacks mixed with-in them. It's awesome to watch

For me, O'Malley called out Topuria because it is an easier fight for him, with a built in excuse. Topuria will more than likely box it out with him, and if he does take him down and win, he is a different weight class so whatever.
Merab on the other hand is a completely different beast. I don't think anyone in that division would fancy themselves against Merab after that last performance, and I think O'Malley is smart enought to know that.

It was an impressive performance from O'Malley for sure. But my pick for best performance from a fighter that I've ever seen was Max Holloway when he fought Brian Ortega. By the end of that fight I was legitimately worried about Ortega's condition.
Merab isn't going to win by taking him down and keeping him there. He wins by overwhelming output that even O'Malley can't keep up with. Merab rarely controls ANYONE on the mat. He just keeps shooting and punching and kicking until his opponent BREAKS! He only loses if he gets caught and KOd. Not just hurt. Hurting Dvalishvili isn't enough. You have to stop him or he'll eventually grind you down to a nub. That said, O'Malley obviously is more than capable of turning his lights out. I just don't see him winning any other way.

The card was stacked. Let’s not give all the credit to sean. I know ufc is pushing him to be a star but he will never be the star he thinks he is. Tickets are way more expensive now than when chael was there. Of course gates are higher. Put sean on a card with no other stars and see what happens. Pereira and Strickland on an unstacked card would pull more than O’Malley.

I'm not a fan of O' Malley, but I don't think Merab beats him. Why? Because O' Malley shut down one of the best grapplers in the divisions history. I think the meta has shifted hard towards strikers and O' Malley is very hard to take down, and keep down. On the feet he will be able to stab Merab's gas tank over and over again.
If Sean beats Merab, I won't question Sean anymore. Merab is definitely Sean's hardest fight it wasn't aljo.

Live gate numbers ($$$) will always have its record broken because of inflation and because of UFC brand recognition
In Chaels day, UFC wasnt as mainstream and tickets mightve been $200 a hit.
Nowadays, UFC is more popular, and tickets are $400 a seat (partly cause of inflation and partly cause UFC is raising their prices).
Sean is definitely a star but metrics like live gate revenue are not the most accurate in measuring who has the most starpower. But in saying that, theres not many quantifiable metrics to measure whos a star and I guess live gate revenue is as good as any other metric
