This the last of 7 prototypes and I've played around with a lot of options: standard bridge-pins, X-Bracing, shorter scale, ladder-bracing, cedar-top, soundholes in different shapes and sizes, but for me this is (up to now) the best sounding version. A top with traditional bracing is resonating completely different than this laminated one. But in this special case - with that rather small body - it worked best mor me. - Hudba

Very, very beautiful design with a good tone, lacking in bass as expected. To me, the internal pickup sound offers a better overall sound. All in all, an outstanding work that really deserves attention. Congrats !

amazing build that looks the closest to a factory build as Ive seen, I had also made one [video is posted on u tube] and found that the bracing had a major effect on the under saddle piezo pick up. Ive got a couple new builds that Im currently working on and would love to have a CnC machine, again great job

I was thinking of something like this but with a thinned through-neck and a sound hole in the upper bout. I want an acoustic couch guitar, something I can leave next to me and pick up when I want to. Small bodied, full-scale neck. Probably deeper than this...

I absolutely love this design. Visually beautiful, and great sounding! I would love a copy of the cnc files. I would possibly add a pickup just in front of the bridge for a little more versatility onstage.
Hi Jonathan, you find a downloadlink for the Adobe-Illustrator-File in the description. From there you can - for each single part - export dxf-files for CNC-routing.
Hi Jonathan, in my opinion, with an E/A-Hybrid-Guitar you often get the worst of both worlds. It's like a amphibious vehicle: swims bad and drives bad ;-) But that's just my very personal point of view. A magnetic pickup I would rather try to install at the neck-position or inside the soundhole. Best regards! Thorsten

This is great and thanks for sharing the design files! What is the diameter of the sound hole? I don't have adobe illustrator so when exporting DXF from Inkscape instead I find the scale is completely wrong. With the sound hole size I can have a point of reference for scale when exporting.

A very interesting and attractive build. I'm not sure I agree with some of the conclusion you came to - those screws exert unnecessary downward force on the top, no doubt resulting in the need for a 'sound post' - as already said you could have used a tailpiece, or bridge with pins. Also, I don't see how an extra laminated layer is better than bracing! Listening on a computer it is difficult to assess the true sound quality. Still a fabulous project.

A top with traditional bracing is resonating completely different than this laminated one and in this special case with that rather small body, it worked best mor me.

I've made a few guitars, and continue to encounter numerous problems, and variables - usually without the advantage of making specific prototypes! I hope someday I will have a go at an acoustasonic style guitar and I will take advantage of your experience.

Looks beautiful. am looking into building a cedar top nylon version of this guitar, I've been wanting to try and build a nylon guitar with a fender neck for while. What would you change to the design to achieve that?
Hi Nat,
with nylon strings I think you could reduce the thickness of the top (and the thinckness of the "bracing-layer" underneath) from 3mm to 2mm.

I wonder if increasing the body's depth to that of a traditional parlour or concert sized guitar would aide in providing a bit more low end. It sounds very good, but a little thin. Nicely machined components and a clever design.
You are absolutely right. As I said - you can't beat physics ;-) But I think, it could be difficult to mill it as a one-piece-body. In this case it would be better to build it in a more traditional way like a "real" luthier would do it (bending the sides and so on).

By the way, Tornavoz is a conical tube made of wood or brass ( sometimes silver ) first introduced in the classical guitar world by Antonio Torres Jurado. It henances the bass responce in istruments that were lacking it. If you see closely the acustasonic has one, made by wood ofc
@@thorstenfaust153 Bass frequencies are odd. I know that for a lot of arch-top builds, they use a "bass" brace that runs parallel to the strings on the low e side - apparently they sound really thin if this isn't there. Maybe something similar would be of help here?
Way cool ! imo the ultimate ultra modern minimalist design for an acoustic would be a cross between something like that AND what Riversong did with their "neckthrough" ™ idea but also all or mostly carbon fiber of course. It could allow for simple & complete user adjustability of virtually every aspect of BOTH action & intonation which would be far beyond gimmicky. I can't give away too much but my design could even support some rather radical things like multiple soundboards or "clamp-on" soundboards, "bone spacing" etc. I've been thinking about this for well over a decade & have some crude sketches but never pursued it further since I don't have access to either a woodshop or CNC machines. I'm sure someone will come close within the next few decades. Its LONG overdue imo. There are of course important design/engineering/manufacturing considerations but a guitar isn't exactly rocket science. There is little reason that a truly great sounding & durable acoustic has to be expensive nowadays. You're Lucky your not my neighbor, you'd never get rid of me. Any chance you live in NJ ? lol

Wouldn't it be nice, to share all those crude skteches and ideas of all those guitar-enthusiasts around the world, to discuss and finally build the ultimate acoustic guitar as an "open source project"? First I was thinking about claiming a patent for that guitar, then I thought, to hell with that - I'll share it. I like the string through the tailpiece idea (wish I'd thought of it) but the bolts through the sound board behind the bridge troubles me some! Wouldn't a series of rollers in a frame be less susceptible to string breakage? How does it handle feed back from the amp?
Yes, the rollers might be a good idea! But on the other side I like doing things the stupid and simple way ;-) Had no string-breakage-issues so far. No feedback-issues (even with a floor-monitored rockband).
Hey, besides the fact that it sounds and looks extraordinarily good, I also noticed some special technical aspects! Mr. Faust, could you please explain to me how you designed the bridge? Have you considered some "tilt" of the neck in relation with the body? Can you please explain me this issue in detail please? I ask you because I would like to know how to established the distance between strings and neck and also the very good intonation (an important details for guitarists:) Thank you very much and congratulations again!
Hi Dragoi, similar to a Strat the neck isn't angled at all. Before I've glued the bridge to the top, I put the Strings on, tuned the guitar an moved the bridge around to find and mark the exact position. (As a starting-point I took the fender scale-length of 650mm). Then I gradually sanded down the bridge to adjust the string-action. Is this helpful for you?

I always Love Creative people like A big bow to you in due respect . Regarding The Top what thickness is the top and and secondary layer below it is sanded does both the tops been glued or jus been hold by the bridge plate and screws kindly advice pls
Hi! The thickness of the top and of the secondary layer is 3mm for each. They are glued together with Titebond. Best regards! Thorsten

Slightly confused. Is that a bracing post I can see linking the front and back - visible through the sound hole once playing starts? No probs if it is and many instruments have sound posts such as violins.
Hi Paul, yes - it's kind of a bracing post. The result is slightly more sustain and more stability in that weak region of the top. Without it - after a few weaks with the strings on, the top tended to sink in here. To be honest, it's a rather fragil construction ;-)
Do u think it'd sound different if it didnt have the tailpiece style bridge as opposed to a more "traditional" acoustic style bridge (so traditional braced top)or even an ovation style string thru bridge ?
Oh yes. With a traditional bridge and X-bracing this guitar sounds rather thin and boxy. I have built a very first prototype with this features and I wasn't happy with the sound.
What does the adjustable screws do for sound?
