I so appreciate you, Jeannie Mai, for saying that you desire to learn your husband's culture and other cultures that you live around for your daughter and yourself. I too feel that way. I can honestly appreciate people in interracial relationships viewing this as important, because so many people do not! Love you both!
I adore Jeannie Mai and always have. She is genuinely a good person and I watched her "evolve" exactly like she said. I watched her glow up as a single woman and fall in love with a man who changed her world. She showed me how good of a dude Jeezy is. How grown man he is. She deserves it all. I'm super happy for her
For me change is not that bad as long as the change is a positive and it doesn't go against your morals and ethics. I don't call it change I call it Evolve. Jeanie's definition is evolving to me. For me it's not a negative thing. For me it means I gave it careful thought which came from a mature place and made the best choice for me whether it's adding to my life, or not. I'm making my choices being fully present instead of straight off of emotion or ego. I loved his quote. I think it needs to be on a mug or a t-shirt.
This is what is missing in the kind of gross conversation about "submissiveness" that seems to come up over and over again in podcasts. Submissiveness is not a character trait. It is a natural ease and calm that comes with two people who are compatible and choose to be the best person they can be in service of their relationship. Both people soften and grow and change if they care enough about the other person.
This conversation is about prioritizing self love and acceptance over societal expectations to procreate and assume specific gender/sex/status roles that can (potentially) block you on your own path to personal understanding, growth and fullfilment. So many people have been pressured to become a less than evolved version of themselves especially when where who what they are at the present moment serves others at the detriment of themselves. Therefore changing in a relationship, that is, being encouraged to improve/expand your self concept becomes the goal especially when you are partnered with someone who is just as invested in their own actualisation as well as your own, for the now and the future together or apart.
What an eye opening, beautiful conversation 💛 Something I have felt insecure about in my own relationship is how much my partner has changed since we have been together, especially since having our daughter. I had always felt like I was asking too much and should just love him where he is at... and I did love him then but I’m in awe and in love with the version of him that he has become. Witnessing a change in him inspires me to be a different version of myself. We are closer because of the changes we have made. I can feel the love between us growing and evolving and becoming deeper than it ever was before.
Great explanations! Especially in a world that can often shine an ugly light and give a bad connotation to changing that is absolutely necessary when in a relationship.
I loved this conversation. It is about finding people who can see the best and the worst. Exploring the revolutions or evolutions of each other and growing. Self actualization! With each other. Grow together or grow apart. I have that with friends and partners.
This is extremely relatable. I relate to Jeannie so so much. From the evolution and want to be better in my relationship to the not wanting to have children- especially with the wrong person. I’ve sometimes been made to feel bad that I don’t want kids, but I’ve never been pressured thus far!
Amazing video request: “How to Put Your Partner in Their Place Without Provoking Their Ego” For me in my relationships over the years, this has been truly difficult for me. I often resort to guilt tripping or yelling because I have a trigger from childhood of not feeling heard. Conflict resolution is such a must in relationship and to learn how to navigate would be a lifesaver! Thanks so much, Shan, for your insightful and thought provoking content as usual! This was a engaging conversation ❤
It’s great that partnership or friendship makes you find your flaws and wanting to be better and grow, even if the relationship doesn’t work at end you improved as person and it’s AWESOME
Wow Jeanne is so self aware of herself in my past relationship I also was bad tempered hotheaded, but I noticed that that was a defense mechanism because of the respect that I was getting in that relationship, so I mirrored back what I got and return now in my current relationship. I know that he is my soulmate because I am allowed to be vulnerable. Allowed to let my guard down allow to be myself so he brings the best out of me.

Loved both conversations…I have found lately that I too have been so hell bent on being “independent” and not changing my plans or actions in fear of the credit being given to connections and relationships I have around me. I’ve been stuck in a rut, Wilting instead of growing terrified of change and people perceiving me to be weak or codependent. I really needed to hear what Jeannie especially had to say!! 🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽love the pod Shan 🥰
You mantioned that Jared has a wait to point out bad behaviour without making you feel like a bad person. I wish if you could expand on that in future episodes. Could you give us an example, a roleplay of a fictional situation. I think it's a valuable skill which a lot of people struggle with and would like to learn and integrate in their relationship. I think it would be really valuable for us to see how it's done, how to open that discussion while staying connected and not triggering out partner.
Thank you for sharing. I have decided to let love change me. Thank you for the help. One of your episodes from your podcast helped me let go of an unhealthy relationship. Thanks for sharing your perspective. Many blessings.
I really like the part about basking in the afterness! Have the same issue with my partner sometimes -- but when I show appreciation it changes the dynamic! ;) thx for this
It’s one thing to say something and to actively do it requires time. We all have had our traumas and it takes time to heal and to make the necessary changes. We need people who can be patient with us.
I think it’s a good thing to change in a relationship. for someone and for yourself and I think sometimes being with someone will show you things about yourself that you’ve never seen before and that’s worth changing. Both sides!
This was a great episode. Jeannie is really giving out a lot of game, ladies when you respect a man you will grow in some of the toughest areas that you resisted or didn’t even acknowledge before
idk why but for some reason I just wanted to cry watching.. it's just really emotional to experience someone in alignment.. maybe not "evolved" but aligned with your purpose for sure and not only that I really do feel I'm in that space now. It's my turn and I am being intentional.. and I am sure that's why my emotions are being triggered because it's so me
Careful not too take the fact that your partner is self-aware for granted. They are likely tired of explaining themselves to you while you sit and wait for the subtitle to come from them. Hope this helps someone
I'm changing positively because of this relationship I'm in but I'm feeling like growing apart from them every step I take forward 🥺 ... it's scary cause I love them
This sounded like a real relationship so it’s hitting me hard. So sad. But baby Monaco is so adorable! Definitely will be worth everything at the end of the day!
Unless you talk to HER therapist, I don’t think anyone can tell you. 😅 Jeannie is an open book, though. She will eventually share some details. It might take awhile, but she will share.
They have both evolved and love themselves and are pouring into themselves. This is not bad. It's just they both have to love themselves 1st before they can love one another. It's a journey.❤
I believe the best types of love change you for the better. Growing in love for God and in love for myself has changed me tremendously. Inevitably for partnerships we will change as well. The problem that comes in is when the tweaks are not improving how you show up for yourself and the world. If the changes you’re being encouraged to make are genuinely harmful to you (physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually) and not just to your ego I think it one may not last and two it shouldn’t be done. People will manipulate you if you allow them. But not everyone has evil intentions behind their requests.
@@user-do1qf8rm7b but does submissive mean you don’t stand up for yourself or set out your expectations? When men say they want a submissive wife do they just want someone who does everything they say and never speaks up for themselves
I love hearing Jeanie's side of this relationship and Shan is right it is a bit like Jay and Bey. Also Shan looks so beautiful in this episode the makeup is one point with the floral dress

What's unfortunate is she chose to "change her mind" with the WRONG MAN! Lesson to be learned! She healed too late, now she's a single mother and a kid will grow up in a broken family dynamic. The kids pay for it unfortunately.

Changing your behaviors/habits is not the same as changing your personhood. If that doesn't make sense you don't know who you are. I personally believe people CANNOT change WHO they are but we all learn and adapt to the ups, downs and differences of life and environment.
This shows me that its natural for most women to want children - not wanting kids is definitely the exception. I think the decison and desire just comes at different points in our lives as women.
She said, it’s a responsibility as an American to learn and “understand” other races and cultures. She gets it. Evolved and mature..this is wisdom.
I so appreciate you, Jeannie Mai, for saying that you desire to learn your husband's culture and other cultures that you live around for your daughter and yourself. I too feel that way.
