The power steering cooler pipe gets a bit spurty. I plan to bodge my way around it when I get a chance. Also contains some cycling. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
If your bodge with the tape doesn't fix the leaky roof, as a permanent suggestion may I recommend shed roofing felt, pull it tight and nail it down.
Everyone will think it's a vinyl roof. Thank me later. :)
Or just nail on old roof slates. They are cheap and long lasting.
Or that your Chief Inspector Morse.
I had a Mazda 323f for 5 years then my son had it for 8 years, and apart from from routing servicing it never missed a beat.
A really good car.
If I could find a good V6 version I would have a 323f again!
There was a V6 model for sale but i missed it :/
Your channel is so so good. I love this sort of thing, thank you and please keep up the brilliant work :)
Great Vlog Ian :) Don't worry about the odd mistake we're all human!!! Love that your videos aren't over produced or scripted. Even enjoy your entertaining gimble & shaky camera mounts too!!! I have been suffering with depression a lot recently and watching your videos is a great distraction and really helps take my mind off things. Thank you!
Love the videos just they way they are Ian. Thanks very much for all your time and effort to keep us entertained. Shame about the Mazda, I was getting to quite like it and those wonderful frameless doors.
I owned a used 323F many years ago, in my twenties. I loved it, really great fun, ultra reliable and I thought quite sporty, at the time. Those frameless doors were great on a hot sunny day, with all four windows fully down, it felt almost exotic.
I am listening to this on head phones, and the stereo effect of the windscreen wiper blades passing from left to right, is impressive. It reminds me of the stereo test pips one used to find of stereophonic records, fifty years ago.
There's nothing like that warm feeling inside when successfully completing a bodge job.
Hopefully another great video!! Love the new old rover can't wait to see more videos!
I still think that generation of Mazda 323 in general is absolutely gorgeous and the F- and C-versions are particularly so. Awesome fun to drive as well - willl enjoy seeing your Japfest track-adventure.
I wonder off in to the depths of CZcams but i always gravitate back to decent content like this. Thank you Iain .
Don't get so cut up about making mistakes, and after all you are human. The other thing is your mistakes are a big part of your channel viewership, because folks are learning from you putting the mistakes right, so no worries, and keep up the spirit and think positive think Hubnut. 👍 Tam.
what a bummer with the oil leak hope the quick fix works, keep George away from the drops
Your off the top of your head knowledge is really impressive. The classic magazines I used to read often had mistakes in their finished copies.
Another great video . Perfect way to start my evening a nice tea and hub nut on screen .
All your videos that I have watched so far are fantastic. I like the cars that you drive didn’t think that I would as I drive a RR sport 4.2 V8 superchared but iam loving the small cars.
The 323f in its day was pretty good difficult to get use to the indicators on the wrong side of the stick though . I am a fan . Keep up the good work.
Never see any of these Mazdas on the road and they still look stylish and sharp today. Shouldn't have any problem selling it.
Hey Ian! I'm glad you have, again, another Rover in your life!
By the way, I can fit two full size mountain bikes in the back of my R8 214 SEi. And should be even easier with your new 800 Fastback. :D
I had a 323f ZXi (with the 2.0 V6) for a couple of years and it broke down on me once; rear shock top mount corroded and collapsed. Was a fantastic, reliable car with a good community behind them. Easy to work on too. Miss it now, was a bit of a sleeper, but the ol' rust monster got the better of it. Leaking sunroof might be blocked drain (as mine had), especially the front drain holes. There's a little 's' bend in the pipe down behind the wheel arch that jams up with gunk.
Elly and Twc in the garage , cull the rest except the Rover job done , time to go travelling , great vid Ian.
I love the looks of that 90s mazda. Hope she gets fixed soon.
Aww poor little Mazda, I quite like that car, never owned one but still like it.
200 Duncan.....got MOT can almost get that back scrap.....free motoring....JUST BUY IT. I paid 200 for the red Rover field banger. Best money I've spent AND, made a profit at the end. Ok cost me £300 fuel money to my friend for transport, but best investment I've made.
I think the Mazda baring the smashed up bodywork is the best car you have
How to solve parking issues, stick the Invacar in the 2CV.
That wouldn't work. Stick the Invacar and the 2CV in to the Rover 820!
@@burkezillar I thought of that, I just didn't think the Rover hatch opened wide enough
@@martinda7446 you just need a shoe horn and it'd be grand
Still should’ve kept the recovery truck for this very reason
BUTTER!,the answer to all "it won't fit" problems,but not Lurpak!,too salty,Rovers and salt,bad combination.
I was quite tempted to add the Mazda to my collection of Hubnut rejects but as the Focus is proving too small I think I need to stick to estates. Its a lovely colour and looks like fun between the borkages. Best of luck with the rubber pipe bodge. Rich
The Catsinthewelder were you the agreed buyer?
I had a Mazda 323 in 1982 . Did my drivers license in it and thought it was a great vehicle . Your one makes compared to mine looks like a bloody roller . Mine was first generation front wheel drive . Very jealous.
hi ian just letting know my t-shirts turned up so thanks again.. very comfortable 👍
Cull, rationalisation, Rover 800, it's not really working for me but living in a glass house surrounded by motorcycles I can't really throw stones, at least not without hitting a motorcycle.
You need a LWB Transit (or Sherpa etc), then you could keep the Invacar and the 2CV inside the van. Might be tricky getting a 3-wheeler up a pair of ramps though... Maybe a flat-bed with a Hi-ab crane to lift them on!
You will probably find the pas cooler loop is on the low pressure side (best check that) so a rubber hose (fuel or Similar) will be fine. It won’t work on the HP side.
Oh dear, glad that you have agreed a deal on the Mazda, Ian! Not sure I was expecting pedal cycle content, but it is nice to change things up once in a while, and yes, it is amazing that the bike goes in the 323F without taking the front wheel off.
Some of the appeal of your vids is "Your keeping it real dude" so the odd faux pas and were the hell is that spanner I had in my hand 2 seconds ago is all good with us
cars always no when your getting rid of them as they always break before you sell them
Yep, they do. I can't think of the number of ones that I've had that broke just when I was about to sell them, and that includes quite a few that were already broken that managed to find a new way to break...
Yeah after 400k on the milage i decided to go car shopping and change car to a lower milage one then after that she starts to rattle it was the bloody flywheel 😂😂😂 car never gave a days bother till that. Makes sence
@@bencrosbie After 400000 miles it's maybe entitled to have a small attack of petulance. The problem is what do you do with it then? Is it worth putting a new clutch and DMF in a 400k mile car that is already only worth pocket change, realistically, no matter how faithful a servant it has been...
@@gosportjamie yeah its worth it. it did me very proud through the whole time. I ended up keeping it. I might buy a second car while having this as a backup or a work car. despite of being worthless to everyone else Its worth alot to me anyways. dmf's are a load of crap for the sake of smoothness. gonna get it changed and itll do for another long time by the looks of its its paid for itself well over.
@@bencrosbie A lot of older cars with DMFs can be converted back to a solid flywheel. A number of good clutch companies make kits for most of them. It still ends up costing about the same as a clutch change and new DMF the first time, but you'll probably never have to change the flywheel again, and you'll probably find that your starter motors last longer as a lot of cars with DMFs seem to like eating starters. It's nice to hear you're keeping it, often a well cared for car with loads of miles is a much better bet than one with a lot less recorded miles and no or a patchy history...
Good effort with the bike - I do anywhere from 90 to 120 miles a week.
as for the cooling loop, if you find where the leak is just take out that inch or 2 of pipe, then if you fit a longer bit of rubber pipe with lots of overhang, then it wont have anywhere to blow off to, if that makes sense, rather than cut a lot of the loop away
Your awesome dude.. Love your channel
Alas, you won't fix that with Gaff (not even the good Nashua stuff) - on the plus side, the new wiper blades are AWESOME...
I love your videos hub nut keep them coming
Hi Ian,awesome video, the Mazda is not looking well at the moment with that power steering fluid, lets hope Japfest is achieved in May for a track day drive,on the positive side the Rover is a nice car.
I love the little Mazda. Ok it's not the best example, but the actual issues it has now was from a lack of care or dodgy driving from a previous owner from moons ago. I had the one after, not as attractive but good cars. I love yours even if nobody else does lol. Also there are too many hipsters polishing their videos and making them like the grand tour, or fancy 4k, I love yours because they are off the cuff magic. I've been following you since the classic hub days, the content has got more regular and the videos longer, but I still love the style.
FOR SALE: Two superb frameless doors. Come with Mazda 323f. Looking fwd to seeing you giving this the beans at Silverstone. Will it take the punishment?! Wouldnt bother about the mistakes Ian. I think thats part of your channel and folk dont want all this edited to death slick stuff. All the best✌
I was given a Mazda Demio a month ago, typical old lady owner from new, serviced every year. 57000 miles and it was put straight back in the garage as soon as it got home, it is like a 2 year old car inside and out apart from a scuffed front bumper. I am so lucky, I can stop using my Mini 30 as an everyday car now. 😊
Mazda 323f best ever looking car in its class , better than the boring Golfs , Astras and Escorts that everyone bought. Love the colour too. 4th March?
I'd keep hold of the bike if I was you!
Ian, have a lot of fun during Japfest on the circuit if you have repaired the power steering of the Mazda.
I think your Mazda might make a great race car. I have seen some 323's in club Touring car racing events as they are pretty good handling cars.
nice to see you again ian.
I like the Mazda, something I saw on the road, but not in great numbers..... I had a 1997 Mazda MX3 for a while a few years ago, great fun....... Only problem with the 323F is the headlights are to small, gives it a face you cant trust :P
Sorry to hear your experience with the Mazdas not been good Ian.....personally I've owned many of them since 2006 and have only had a issue with one!......For the money I'd have happily taken it off your hands but just haven't the room!!
Albert Loomsin Derby has a 323 f in for breaking. Take your own toolbox and have a good root around it when youre next in the east mids.....cheap too. You may get a sunroof or idle valve etc....
Good old alberts, it is my local scrappy to me. Love wondering up there on a saturday morning.
I keep enjoying vicariously your adventures with shite cars. Keep up the good work! One of the best cars I owned was a 15 year old Primera 1.6. Cost peanuts to run, depreciated 100 quid a year and only needed a fuel pump and dizzy in 75,000 miles.
Any errors you might make are more than made up for by your captions correcting yourself and your dry humour. Keep it going i say.
Are you taking Hubnut on your world travels?
The cooler is in the low pressure side of the system so only a few psi , as long as it is clean and dry and pressed well onto the tubes an oil proof rubber hose would be fine ... Just cut out the point of the leak and slip a few inches of the rubber hose over the ends with some hose clps...
Nick Clark that’s what I’ve just posted..! 👍
Not sure you are allowed under MOT rules to patch the power steering cooler. If anyone could be bothered they could run that Mazda for many years. It would certainly be cheaper than leasing and returning new cars.
@@Roverturbo great minds think alike 😊
Ian they may be old but at least you can have fun with them rather than a new car were you can't do sod all brilliant video my friend
I like it. Always wanted one when I was a youngster couldn’t afford it. Mazdas are great cars
I always thought the 323F was a great looking car and like you say quite sporty too. I sadly never owned one but an old friend does have one with the V6 motor that he's restoring with the help of his dad :-)
really disappointed you're getting rid of the mazda but at least you're gonna thrash round a track before the end. Looking forward to seeing that.
The shed is sick!
If you’ve never made a mistake, you’ve never made anything!
It’s a real shame about the oil leak🙁. I reckon that the little Mazda really has more to give and she will shine at Silverstone (figuratively speaking😂).
Remember also that we are here for the fact that you are who you are and do what you do in a way that many of us go about our stuff. That’s why we all relate to you and you have so many followers! Keep it up!
Oh holy crap am I old. I had a lovely 1999 Mazda Protégé ES. It was a peppy bouncy fun little car!
I enjoy your one take style its more genuine and entertaining, what is the brand of the wipers they are great
The Rover looks very smart indeed, lots of presents parked up. Got a question, is it possible to retrofit the Sterling trip computer, is the wiring in place for these luxury extras?
Never met you but consider you a true friend, Ian. Love your videos... such a random choice of awful cars but I watch all your videos.
I owned one of these, same colour. I bought it for about £400, and wish I hadn't sold it for £600 to an Indian lad whom was sick of his Jazz... Mine was lovely. Me and my gal were a two Mazda Family at the time and didn't need to be, our 02 plate Auto in baddass black was suffice, so we thought... shortly after the transaction took place, a Glasgow bus twatted the side of our pnly Mazda in... And it was a write off... We were intercoursed. What followed was am M plate Fiat Tipo... the substantially lesser joys of motoring ensued. But, it served me well. It went on to have a sticky end that could have killed my parents, luckily didn't...
I still like it. Always wanted a 323F.
Yes, it looks like the power steering cooler loop has failed and is now squirting pressurised, hot power steering fluid out of the air intake. That style of cooler, with the looped metal pipe, is renowned for failing in that manner, either due to corrosion, which looks to be that case here, or due to metal fatigue from vibrations causing the pipes to fracture near the mounting points. I really do strongly recommend that anybody who has a vehicle with this type of cooler that is over 10 years old strongly considers replacing it with a small, radiator-type cooler mounted on isolators as, when the cooler fails, it can result in failure or even seizure of the power steering pump and also terminal damage to the steering gear which can easily write an older vehicle off due to the price of the parts (you probably won't be able to use the old pump and steering gear as core units for exchange as they are very likely to have damage to the castings that would be re-used in reconditioned parts...) Suitable replacement coolers are easily available and not expensive, and an ounce of prevention is better than a ton of cure. Oh, and if you have a vehicle with EPAS you don't want to know how much a power steering cooler failure could cost as it frequently kills electronic components too so...
Would you take an offer for the new wiper blades? Just a thought. ☺
Yeah these same folk will pick up on your errors but not admit to their own, we're petrolheads not car guru's, we can't get it all right, there's too much info to remember....keep doing what you're doing, I for one really appreciate and enjoy it.
P.s My mates teenage daughter subscribed last week.....my petrolhead influence....oops! lol....but my point is that since she did you've had over 1100 new subscribers in a week and that says it all to me.
Nice colour.
Not a great idea to drive a car with an oil leak on the road, can be very dangerous for motorcyclists.
The answer is the motorcyclists should buy cars
And especially not cool for the environment.🤦♂️
Firstly it was great to meet you at the NEC resto show, if i were you your two keepers are Ellie and Twk. Then well the Dacia is co owned so that is probably happy if you go wondering around. Then well you could probably do with a fleet update video but i would get rid of all but one of your modern cars so you have something to just jump into between trips. The fox on one hand you have done alot of work on it but you haven't had a good play in it yet so it probably needs finishing before you decide on that one. Perhaps a fleet update/ what should go video is in order to aid your decision if you want to do that? as always keep up the good work and i like the format its very honest so many others making things too glossy, its youtube not netflix.
yours
Patrick

Hi Hubnut, just thinking if I had a Mazda jumper would the sunroof leak? oh and on the subject of hitting sheep 🐑 or ramblers do you not get points for both? I’ll leave that up to you, keep up the great work markUK
That's a shame. Hopefully the rubber hose trick will work!
I use 3m duct tape, abs brilliant stuff. 3m VHB tape is a godsend esp with cracked plastics, really really strong stuff, I buggered up my favourite ecig which I repaired with the stuff realising I had left a button out and it was stuck solid and I destroyed it trying to free it off :( As strong as a riveted joint so the company says.
Oh Ian, the Mazda has not been one of your finer purchases - but it’s given a few laughs, some content for the channel and caused lots of debate in the comments - so I’d consider it a success. You’ve ticked it off your list now! Please don’t worry about rushing the edit or getting to every comment - it’s all about the authentic Hubnut experience 😃
It amazes me that sunroofs are even a moving commodity in the UK.
What great guy👍
I like the Mazda and will be sad to see it go. It was a good candidate for some TLC and another shot at life.
could you please Review a Renault 4 ??
if you like 2 cv`s then you are going to love the renault 4
grew up with those cars since my dad had 4 of them one after the other
i had an early renault 5 with the same engine and long gearchange lever!, good simple cars, i want a bajaj qute (look it up!) to remind me of old simple cars!
That car does seem very easy to thread thru loads of corners. Looks composed and utterly unflappable at 60. I think you could be right about it being fun on track.....
The cooler loop looked very rotten on my 1994 Celica some time back so I did a pre-emptive strike and replaced it before it failed.
Thank goodness I'm not the only one with car trouble. I once bought a low mileage Astra with good service history one old man owner, what could go wrong? Every bloody thing, that car had problems from day two that no matter how I tried it never went well at all. Engine management light, service or repair light, limp mode it had the lot.
Oh dear! Poor Mazda. I always wanted one of those but maybe not now. 😁 I've had my fair share of bangers over the years and alot go wrong with them. Saying that the last car I had was a X reg Honda civic. Had it for four years and nothing at all went wrong with that. It was bullet proof but a complete shed at the same time. 👍
I'm not a car person, why does the power steering system have to be cooled? How does it get hot?
I'm sure that car used to live on my street in Bangor north Wales. I seem to remember it looking healthier than that though.
I agree with you on your comment about publishing material on social media and making comments, there’s always somebody there somewhere to correct you, sometimes quite rightly if what you said is erroneous.
Did you sell the Mazda then and get your money back?
How did them wipers pass a MOT ?
Wish i could change my noisy mother in law as easy as you changed your wipers
Hubnut in the future do you plan to review any of the following (Peugeot 306 Meridian 1.6) OR (1998 Renault Laguna 2.0 RT) The renault is actually quite nice looking car even still today i think.
We watch you because you're fallible like the rest of us and we can completely empathise with the content. There are plenty of other channels with slick but irrelevant super car content that leave us all completely cold. Viva Hubnut and his mid life crisis!
Dare I suggest the Eastern European grand tour in an Invacar with Rich in a sidecar or trailer! I'd be positively glued to that. 😉
If a rubber pipe works on a high PSI power steering system I will be impressed, there's a reason they use metal pipes and even with the rubber pipes on such a system they're a good 1/2in thick with hydraulically crimped ends because you've basically got a hydrallic system that turns the wheels with a rising and falling PSI as it fights the grip of the tyres, resistance of the mechanical connections that connect the front wheels to the HubNut sat in it turning the steering wheel (see what I did there?).
Chop out the bad pipe, flare, use connectors and install metal pipe :)
The Fake Russian not if it’s on the low side. The metal is for cooling, rubber hoses wouldn’t really work would they.
@@Roverturbo That's what I was saying, a rubber pipe to replace the metal one won't really work. Rubber hoses are usually used to take the fluid from the pump to the rack and the power steering fluid tank to the pump as they're needed for the flexibility they provide where there is movement.
You have to remember that all engines have rubber mounts to allow the engine to move when it's revving or putting down the torque. Metal piping is used where there's little or no movement and whilst they would offer some cooling they're not metal for that reason as the oil cooler primarily does that job.
Are we a month behind or have you been mistakenly putting March on the dates?
I personally can't wait for hubnuttery around the world.
I still think you should go on a £500 challenge.
I hope it will be on a budget motoring theme as per current Hubnut, as travel blogs are 2 a penny on u-tube.
Another great video. Is it always raining in Wales? 😂
Are you going to vlog your world tour Ian? I hope so cos I really enjoy your videos.
No, not this time. The frameless doors certainly tempted me though.
Hoping you start on the rover soon 🚗🇬🇧
The replacement will have to have pillarless doors lol!
It's a shame because these are sweet little cars when well sorted :)
I don’t understand all the so called hate for this car. I think it’s great. Pity it’s going so soon. And without the rumoured doors replacement 🙂
