I think Syria is incredibly overlooked when it comes to the general world stage. People have dehumanized refugees when they have no idea how much these refugees have given up.
I know this is a short video, but I hope to share more do the realities of my trip, so you can understand how incredible it is and what Syrians are missing 💕

She is actually disrespectful. She COMPLETELY DENIED domestic abuse happening to Muslim women, unvalidating their abuse story in a disgusting manner. this was in a recent video and she refused to take it down when everyone called her out, because it is her most watched short. This is a priviliged ignorant influencer who just wants clicks and views so her white ass can experience some thrill in a ‘dangerous regime’ country.

You brilliantly explained the situation without being insensitive. Perfect decision to keep this as a single video instead of two shorts.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for showing both sides. I left Syria in 2011 whilst studying in Damascus due to the war, and every time I see a Syrian tourism video I feel such anger inside that they're showing Syria without giving the context. As you rightly pointed out, there are regions which are prosperous due to their support of the government, and regions which are not due to their opposition, and watching videos where content creators pretend everything is okay when I know so many Syrians who have had to leave and can never go back, fills me with such a saddened rage. insha'Allah one day I will be able to revisit this beautiful country. Best of luck with your future travels.

The last time I was in Denmark in 2018, I met the sweetest young man at a train station. It turned out, he was from Syria. He only spoke a bit of English, and no Danish at the time. He was happy that my English was good. When I told him, I was American, he couldn’t believe it! We chatted for a while at the platform. Sadly, we were going in opposite directions, but I was glad he was safe, but he broke my heart because he was alone. He triggered my auntie instincts, and I just wanted to hug him. I reached my had out, and we had a long handshake goodbye instead. 😭

I cannot tell you how much inspiration and joy your videos are bringing me. Not only are you fearless in your exploration, I see you approach each culture with great respect. You express your experience delicately maintaining the dignity of sometimes controversial and misunderstood places. Not just anybody could do this. You would have to be very well educated in diplomacy and history region to region.
I just want you to know I see you and WOW.

Well, this may seem weird to you, but during your visit there, were the Syrians able to know that you were a foreigner by looks? Did they feel like you were a foreigner? Did you always look like a local or they could tell?. It'll be fun to read your stories/memories how you interacted with people (whether it is Syria or elsewhere) and how they reacted when knowing that you were a foreigner, despite your local appearance, as I see it? Am I the only one? That's my point if you got it right. I mean, you look very oriental. You could live in many Eastern countries throughout your life without anyone knowing that you are a foreigner! This is weird, but I'm curious to know, what are your ethnic backgrounds, if you're free to tell?. I've watched many of your videos and it's still a mystery, lol. You can write or ignore it if it's not comfortable. Cool with it anyways, I respect everyone's.

Having visited countries governed by questionable regimes myself despite moral quandaries over leaving my money there, I understand the argument that the prime beneficiary of the revenue you bring is the local population and tourism industry. However, the case of Syria is different. In travelling there, one not only provides financial but, more crucially, propagandistic support to a regime that has been slaughtering its own population and is now trying desperately to get back into the world’s good graces by projecting images of normalcy. These images will also be welcomed by far-right, anti-immigrant extremists in the West, who struggle to promote the idea of Syria being a “safe country of origin” that refugees can be deported back to, despite the near certainty of torture and death awaiting them. Ask yourself this: You probably would not have travelled to Syria in 2014, so why now? What has changed, except that the regime has, with foreign help, killed or driven out anyone who dared to speak out against it? Is this a peace that you want to sanctify?
